Grading:
 8th Grade Math GradingPolicy
Unit Assessments: 70%
Practice: 10%
Formative Assessment: 10%
Final Assessment 10%
 Final Assessment:
o Studentswill have aFinal Assessment atthe endof eachtrimester.
o The Final Assessmentwill contain contentfromeachassessmentthroughoutthe trimester.
o The Final Assessmentgrade will be basedonpoints.
 UnitAssessments:
o Unit Assessmentsare basedonCommonCore standards covered throughoutthe unit.
o Unit Assessmentswill be gradedbasedonmasteryof standards.
 Retakes:
o Retakesare allowed AFTERRELEARNING HAS OCCURRED.
o Time will providedduringclasstocomplete aretake.
o In orderto retake an assessment,youmusthave the followingitemscomplete andturnedinthe day
priorto the retake:
 Cover sheetwithstandardsmarkedaseithermasteredornon-mastered
 UnitPlan fullycompletedwithaccurate answers
 Relearningworksheetcompletedwithaccurate answerstoboththe questionsandproblems
 Formative:
o Formative will counttowardsthe final grade andwill be basedonaccuracy.
o Formative assessmentsconsistof progresschecksandothershortassessments.Assessmentsinthis
categorywill be given afterstudentshave hadthe lesson,homeworkassignments,exitticketsand
feedbackovertheirwork.
o Formative assessmentquestionswillbe verysimilartothose questionsthatwillbe onthe unit
assessment.

2.  Practice:
o Practice consistsof homeworkassignments,prove-itactivities,andotherassignmentsgivenaftera
lessonandisgradedbasedon completion.
o Practice problemswill be verysimilartothose questionsthatwill be onformativeassessmentsand
unitassessments.It’sEXTREMELYimportantto complete the practice inorderto be preparedforthe
formative andunit assessments.
o A homeworkgrade will be givenatthe endof eachunitbasedon the numberof homework
assignmentscompleted.
o Failingto prepare is preparingto fail.
Class Notes:
 Studentswill needaMath notebooktobringto classeveryday.Thisshouldbe a MATH ONLY notebook.
 Studentsare expectedtotake notes,whenrequired.Notesconsistof examples,commonmistakesandother
importantinformationtohelpstudentsbe successful.
 Studentsshouldlabeltheirnoteswiththe date andtopicsothe notebookcanbe usedas a reviewtool.
Cell Phones:
 Studentswill be expectedto have theircell phone onsilentandplaced upside downonthe cornerof their
deskor inthe cell phone holderas soonas theyenterthe classroom.
 Studentswill be allowedtouse theirphonesforavarietyof educational purposes whendirectedbythe
teacher.
 If students doesnotfollowthe expectations:
o The studentwill be directed toplace theirphone inthe cell phone holderforthe remainderof the
classand will be allowedtopickitupat the endof the class.
o If a studentsdoesnotcomplywiththe teacher’srequestthenthe studentwill be directedtogothe
office toturn intheirphone where thisincidentwouldbe loggedandstepswouldbe takenasdefined
inthe handbook.
o If a studentstill doesnotcomplywiththe teacher’srequeststhenareferral will be senttothe office
and notonlywill the incidentbe loggedandstepstakenasdefinedinthe handbookbutthe student
wouldalsoearnan hour detention
