General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of the traditional
muslim celebration called Eid.
Central Idea/Preview: Eid is a an international holiday for many
muslims across the
globes. It is celebrated in many different ways in different
cultures. Today I would like to
share with you how we celebrate Eid in Oman
Organizational Pattern: Chronological Introduction
I. Attention Getter: How many of you guys know what eid is ?
Many Muslims in the
United States celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the first day of Shawwal
in the Islamic
calendar. It marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan
and the celebration
lasts up to three days in some countries.
II. Establish Credibility: There are about 1.6 billion muslims
that celebrate eid across
the globe and different cultures celebrate it in many different
ways.
III. Relate to audience : Today I would like to share with you
my experience of eid and
how it is an important part of my culture and all the different
things we do while
celebrating it.
IV. Central Idea/Preview: Eid in Oman lasts up to three days. I
will talk about the
events we have from the first day of eid to the last day of eid.
These events include
makhraj, mazmal, azwah, razha.

2. I. Main Point:Before I talk about any event there is an important
part of eid which is
called Eidyia ,it's that's the reason I wake up so early and happy
that day, and
basically you congratulate all the adults on eid and they give
you money. Then we
have several events the first would be the eid prayer and the
second would be the
makhraj and the last would be a feast for all your family
members called Ursiya.
A. Sub-Point: The first event that day is the Eid prayer. All the
men and their
sons gather in the mosque at 6am and offer a prayer to celebrate
Eid.
B. Sub-Point: After the prayers are over, All the children go to
an event where
chocolates and candy and traditional snacks and toys are sold
called the
Makhraj.
C. Sub-Point: And finally, after the makhraj all the family
gathers in the house of
the grandparents and enjoy the feast Ursiya and its a very warm
and
welcoming atmosphere and there is a lot of family bonding
time.
[Moving to the second day of eid]
II. Main Point: On the second day there are two events. The
first is Thabiha, the
second is Al-Azwah.
A. Sub-Point: The first event is basically mercifully slay a cow
or sheep and the
meat is distributed in two ways. First they would cut the meat
and season it
and put it on barbecue sticks to be cooked and eaten for lunch.
The second
part would be they would dig a huge hole in the ground put a

3. layer of hot,
burning coal and then put the seasoned meat - which would be
covered
securely - in that hole and then add another layer of coal which
is then they
covery it with soil and is left there to cook and is unearthed the
next day to be
eaten for lunch.
B. Sub-Point: The second event is the Azwah which is basically
the same as
the makhraj but the only difference is that it is held on higher
ground of a
mountain. What is special about the is that is is in the halfway
between the
east and west of the village. All the children go there from
4:00pm to 7:00pm
and this event is repeated on the last day of eid as well.

III. Main Point: There are two major events that happen during
the event I previously
talked about called Azwah. On this day the Azwah usually lasts
until 8:00pm.
A. Sub-Point: First there is the mazmal, which is basically a two
groups of men
as well as boys that come from the east and west of the village
and meet in
the mountain. On their way to the mountain the are singing and
play on
traditional musical instruments. The two leading people of the
two groups
have swords because the moment they meet up in the mountain
they both
perform a dance called Al-Razha with these swords while the
other men/boys
surround them in a circle until the dance is finished.
B. Sub-Point: Once they finish the dance they move on the the

called the Shabah. The shabah is a shooting contest where
anyone who
owns a rifle gets to participate and the winner gets to light up
the canon which
is fired at an empty plain land and this symbolizes the end of
Eid al fitr.
Conclusion
I. Transition Signal: Now that I have thrown all this new
information at you guys.
II. Summary of Main Points: And you know all about the first
day to the last day of eid, I
hope you guys visit Oman during the eid and get to experience
the eid celebration
firsthand.
III. Concluding Thought: And if you guys can’t make it to
Oman, you can always come
to the omani night at OSU and get a little bit of the omani
experience.
