Last question preliminary
1. Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
2. This was my preliminary task that I done at the start of the year, as you can see its
VERY simplistic and rather plain, it also has no real focus. Whilst there are things that
are okay in terms of the conventions of a normal magazine, but it lacks a lot of things
within the style of the magazine and just simply the way it looks because it looks very
un professional.
3. This is the front cover and contents from my actual project, as you can see it’s a
lot more advanced than my preliminary, there are many reasons for this. Starting
off, I had a lot more time to do this therefore I could review my magazine and
change things to more suited layouts etc. Which was a big advantage, my
Photoshop skills were a lot better when I done this magazine too, which allowed
me to do things like added the light effect in the background on the front cover
making it much more appealing. After doing lots of research too, I figured that
4. I’d make my bar code smaller as it doesn’t need to be as big, placed on the bar code is
the price of the magazine too which is something that didn’t feature in my preliminary
work, which is following conventions of normal magazines. The colour scheme too, I
learned that matching colours should not be near each other, for instance, On my
preliminary work I had a yellow box near the yellow background and it blended in a
bit so it wasn’t that good, with my actual project everything stands out clearly with
use of the vibrant colours.
With my preliminary work I only took a photo for the photo on the cover and even
then it wasn’t the best, I learned that for the perfect photo you need to get a good
angle and also bright so it stands out, this is one of the main skills that I gained
throughout the making of my magazine. Being able to take good photos that are
suitable to be put on a magazine that could potentially be distributed in the modern
market. The research before my magazine was made helped me a lot, it made me
understand that a lot more stories needed to be put into the contents, my preliminary
barely has any stories and has no fixed layout so its very messy. Where as my actual
project has a fixed layout, everything is ordered and easy to understand with a lot
more stories. I also missed out page numbers on the preliminary too, which would be
a really silly mistake if it were a professional magazine so next time around I added
those in and I didn’t have any catch phrases either, in my ‘beats’ magazine I have ‘The
UK’s No.1 dance magazine’, this is very catchy and makes the audience more attracted
to the magazine.
