Kumarasami Kamaraj is well
known as "Kingmaker" in
Indian politics. From the year
1954-1963, he was the chief
minister of Tamil Nadu
Joined the National
Freedom Movement.

Kamaraj was instrumental in building many
irrigation dams, linking the villages by all-
weather roads and constructing hospitals in
remote places. Major irrigation schemes were
planned in Kamaraj’s period .
Long term loans with 25% subsidy were given to
farmers.
Apart from farmers who are having dry lands
were given oil engines, electric pump sets on
installment basis.
7. LEGACY
Kamaraj was a rarity in Indian politics, and
undoubtedly the tallest leader in Tamil Nadu.
A school dropout and freedom fighter who went
on to become the Congress president despite
knowing little Hindi and no English
He played the kingmaker in national politics for
over two decades by picking two prime ministers
– lal bahadur shastri and Indira Gandhi.

He himself rejected the post of PM. He wasn't a
power hungry man, he was a man of vision. I
would say it was not a big mistake since after
him Shastriji took position in the center. He was
one of the most powerful and humble politician
ever in the Indian History.
