3. Conventions- Psychological
• Mental problems
– Doesn’t know how to distinguish between real life
and a dream.
• Mirrors
• Flashbacks

• Music is non-diegetic and diegetic also tension
is built.
• Titled angles
6. Plot/ Themes
Violence
• Violence is usually caused by the evil demon but in this case is the character
harms themselves and a evil creature will try something to harm anybody or
just the main character.
Psychological
• In a movie there is always a person that it delusional, is developing a mental
illness or confuses the audience.
Supernatural
• In supernatural films there is always a demon or presence, the presence
could be either good or bad.
Survival
• Either lots of people have to unite in order to help the person that is in
danger or the person/ group have to discover the way in which the demon
has come to life and how to destroy it.
7. Weapons
• In supernatural horror movies, there's jumpy moments, etc…
which are used as weapons of fear, rather than actually possessing
a knife, or axe for example.
Dead Person or Symbol
• The main character would find either a dead body or find
something that shows that the other person is dead like a symbol.

symbols which have significant value within the movie.
Costume/ Prop
8. Location/ Settings
Its takes place in more:
• Isolated areas - where the character is vulnerable towards any
situation.
• Dark areas - Usually night time
• In the House - Both day and night where the character feels a
presence of the demon.
• Mental Asylum - Which just shows that the character is crazy.
9. Lighting
• Darkness will cause the characters to develop a sense of fear.
• Filming at night then would have at least a bit of light source so the
footage is clear.
• Natural light can be used to give a more dramatic emotion when the natural
light hits the characters face (Similar to noir lighting however, changes
when it used for all the body)
• Noir lighting is know for harsh light that skims across a face. Shadows on a
subject’s face help imply mystery, just as many noir characters are two-
faced.
