2. CIMS ORIGINAL MISSION
“Collegiate Institute for Math & Science (CIMS) is an academically
rigorous high school established in 2003 under the auspices of the New
Century High Schools Initiative by New Visions for Public Schools and
the New York City Department of Education. The Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation and the Open Society
Institute provided funding.
Our goal is to prepare our students for college. We are required to
educate children but we encourage all of our students to take four
years of science rather than just the three required by New York State
and offer four years of math for those who wish more than the three
required by the state. Instead of one year of a foreign language, we
promote the completion of three year, with many students going
beyond”.
