1. Phlebotomist/ lab assistant
I draw blood from babies,children, young adults and elderly patients
on a daily basis. I work with a large numberof patients varying in age
and health status. I collect a variety of other specimensamples as well
as labeling the blood vials that I fill. I practice proper patient
identification. Label specimenvials, urine cups, 24hour containers,
throat culture swabs,wound cultures, stool containers and plates with
patients’ name and dates. Centrifugeblood samples and prepare all
specimen samples including tracking and receiving specimens from
other facilities to betransported to appropriate laboratory for
resulting. Fax results to doctors and answerphone. File requisitions
for record and maintain a clean area. Accession Non-Gyns and Paps
surepath vials and prepare them for Mercy Lab.
Histology Prep Tech
I accession specimens in co-path or softpath. Prepare specimens for
pathologist to dictate. Makecassettes for pathologist. Order supplies,
label, file slides, discard and maintain records of slides and blocks.
Order appropriatetests in the computer. Discard specimens after 2
months, daily or longer dependingon specimen. Query reports, daily
accessioning logs and maintain record of temperatures.
Cytology Prep Tech
I accession and process non-gynecologic specimens and surepath
specimens for microscopic evaluation. Assigning accession numbers,
Thin Prep processing, Surepath processing, running the strainers,
changing reagents and cover slipping. Prepare specimens for
ChlamydiaTrachomatis and Neisseria Gonorrhea testing. I render a
gross description of all non-gyn specimens.Responsiblefor ordering
appropriate supplies,filing slides and blocks.Follow all local,
business unit and corporate safety policies and assures compliance of
the lab. I am responsiblefor preventative maintenance logs, daily

2. accessioning logs and temperatures on a daily basis. Disposeand label
biohazard waste appropriately. Makeblocks for the histologist to cut
and makeslides for the pathologist to evaluate. Daily and weekly
cleaning of thin prep stainer machine, centrifuge and double cyto
centrifuge.
