A- There are twenty fourth grade students; eleven females and nine males. Of these
students, two are Muslim, three are Jewish, and two are African-American.
S- The fourth grade students will categorize which winter holiday tradition correlates with
which culture, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and African-American, after a week long period of
time, during which the students will be shown documentary films describing each culture’s
winter holiday traditions, participate in class discussions, and will have researched and given an
oral report about a specific culture’s winter holiday traditions, with ninety-five percent
accuracy. The categorization will occur at the end of the week when the students will
participate in a game of Winter Holiday Jeopardy.
S- Materials used will be a Smart board to show the documentary films, text books and
computers for researching the Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and African-American cultures’ winter
traditions, and a smart board to project the Winter Holiday Jeopardy. The students will be
utilizing paper and pencil to write down the answers that they have for the questions from
Jeopardy.
U- I will present the films on the different culture’s winter holiday traditions. After viewing
the films, the students will engage in a teacher-guided class discussion of the similarities and
2. differences of the traditions. Students will be given time in a computer lab to do research for
their presentation and will present their reports after two days of research. The students will
then participate in a Winter Holiday Jeopardy game by forming small groups and writing down
the group’s answers on paper.
R- Students are required to actively participate in class discussion, present an oral report,
and to actively participate and contribute to the group during Winter Holiday Jeopardy.
E- I will evaluate the students’ as they are discussing the different culture’s winter holiday
traditions by asking questions to gauge whether or not the students’ understand the material.
Evaluations will take place during every session regarding the winter traditions. The students’
answers to the Winter Holiday Jeopardy will be reviewed and upon the review it will be decided
if the students need more instruction on the cultures and their tradition.
