This document provides instructions for an assignment to analyze a work of social justice art from the 20th or 21st century. The analysis is to be presented in 8 paragraphs addressing: 1) an introduction to the work and social issue, 2) identifying the work and medium, 3) the social contribution of the work, 4) the aesthetic value and reflection of the human condition, 5) any censorship of the work, 6) justification of government censorship of art, 7) influences of the work and public reaction, and 8) an argument for whether the work is considered art. Direct quotes from required references - a textbook, artist statement, and scholarly source - must be used to support the analysis.
