2. WHAT IS CATIA?
CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive
Application) is an abbreviation that stands for
Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive
Application. It's a lot more than CAD (Computer Aided
Design) software. It is a comprehensive software
package that includes CAD, CAE (Computer-Aided
Engineering), and CAM (Computer-Aided
Manufacture).
3. WHAT IS THE MOST RECENT
VERSION OF CATIA?
The current version of CATIA is 6, but there’s still a lot to love about CATIA V5.
While that might seem old by modern software standards, for a CAD system
it’s still quite new. In comparison, SolidWorks released their newest version
(2019) in May 2018. But despite its release, designers and engineers prefer
CATIA V5—especially when they are working on an older project and need a
CAD platform that has some of these newer features at a reasonable price
point.

The CATIA V6 advancement continues with CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE. Product Data Management (PDM) and Product
Lifecycle Management (PLM) are both covered. CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE has a full text bar that can identify anything
in the platform that the user has access to in one place while preserving the more precise filtering function.
Users can create customized lists and folders to store and organize their own work. The designers may create as
many folders or favourites as they like, thanks to the database's data handling capabilities, without affecting how
other users view the data.
The data-controlling 3DEXPERIENCE platform can immediately identify component changes and update all
impacted representations, keeping all stakeholders informed about the current status of the structure.
Other files can be connected directly to CAD data to increase the amount of information provided (reference
tables, exported PDFs, etc.). This documentation is then managed through a database and supplied together with
the CAD data that it is linked to.
Finally, the database may be used to color 3D objects graphically based on a variety of customizable criteria, such
as whether they are new, old, or in use.
