Top Reasons Why Cannabis Users Mistrust the
Government & Big Pharma
Cannabis users have notoriously been known to distrust the government. Now with vaccine mandates being peddled on
a national scale â many people are weighing out the option of being fired for not complying.

Of course, the politicization of the virus has lumped those who do not wish to comply with the vaccine mandate as âanti-
vaxxersâ when in reality there are many people who simply donât trust the government or Big Pharma for several
legitimate reasons.
Today, weâre going to be exploring some of the most notorious incidents when the government abused its power and
manipulated the public in one way or another, as well as moments when Big Pharma violated our trust.
Perhaps you donât remember due to all the shitfuckery of late â but pre-pandemic there were global protests all over
the world, from the United States to China.
When the pandemic hit â it was as if the fuse of a great social bomb was removed and now, with people on lockdown â I
have a feeling weâre only throwing napalm on it all. With dichotomous politics dividing citizens on topics such as health,
freedom of choice and the likes â itâs important to take a step back and understand why some people simply donât trust
the government and their corporate sponsors.

A brief overview of mistrust
Since 1958, the National Election Study began asking Americans about their degree of trust in the government. When
they began asking this question, 73% of the American people believed that the government was âdoing the right thing
most of the timeâ.
However, the Vietnam War quickly began eroding this trust and by the 1970s with the Water Gate Scandal, the American
people were 54% sure that the Government was on the up-and-up.
By 1980, only 26% of Americans trusted the government. Then during the Raegan era, under the guise of the drug war â
the government âwent tough on crimeâ while waging a Cold War with Russia that was winding down into its last decade.
By the mid-1990s, the overall trust in the government was in the low 20%.
After that, 9/11 created an artificial peak of trust in the government, but only a decade after the fact, public trust
reached a historic low of 10%.
During the current administration, according to Pew â 24% of Americans Trust the Government
(https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/05/17/public-trust-in-government-1958-2021/).
However, thereâs also a poll we can look at which is the âdisapproval rating of Congressâ
(https://www.statista.com/statistics/207579/public-approval-rating-of-the-us-congress/) â another data point.
Similarly, there is a consistent trend within these polls that correlate with the other ones â showing a general distrust of
the government.
Remember that time when the government lied about marijuana?
Now letâs look at more cannabis-specific offenses caused by Uncle Sam.
There are so many examples to choose from but Iâll limit this section to the major offenses.

1. Harry J. Anslinger Dupes America â Reefer Madness is a period where outright lies were published in
newspapers, and actively promoted by the government. While the degree of reefer madness have been dialed
down in modern times â we still see this kind of deception being promoted on mainstream media sites and
scientific journals. Only recently research has been undoing the misconceptions created by this.
2. 1970 CSA and Nixon â The Controlled Substance Act and the Declaration of the War on Drugs by Nixon gave the
FDA control over drug scheduling. They were supposed to be the people who âprotect the American Publicâ, but
when the Drug War took center stage, politicization of drugs and private interests from drug manufacturers made
them âbend the rulesâ and keep cannabis a schedule I drug, knowing that it is not the same as heroin! Not to
mention Pharma provides 75% of the FDAs budget (https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnlamattina/2018/06/28/the-
biopharmaceutical-industry-provides-75-of-the-fdas-drug-review-budget-is-this-a-problem/?sh=56b690c049ec) â
no need to suspect anything! Â
3. The Gateway Theory and D.A.R.EÂ - The Gateway theory is just one of the many lies told by the government which
were perpetuated by organizations like DARE. Hereâs five more lies told by the government as reported by NORML
(https://norml.org/blog/2011/10/24/5-favorite-law-enforcement-lies-about-marijuana/).
4. Government Poisoned Cannabis users â Remember Paraquat
(https://www.nytimes.com/1978/11/19/archives/poisonous-fallout-from-the-war-on-marijuana-paraquat.html)?
Thatâs when the State Department encouraged the Mexican government to spray Paraquat on crops, which
eventually made its way north and was consumed by Americans. I guess itâs okay for a few stoners to die in order
to keep everyone safe from the devilâs lettuce!
5. The Prison Population â Look no further than the swollen prison population
(https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/criminal-justice/reports/2018/06/27/452819/ending-war-drugs-
numbers/), the vast majority of them in there for some related drug charge. The idea is that by arresting people for
consuming drugs you make it safer for everyone else â however, since the dawn of the war on drugs, this strategy
has proven to do the opposite yet this has not stopped the government from continuing this practice.

6. Bidenâs Admin â They said that they would decriminalize cannabis, that it wouldnât be a problem â but since the
Biden Admin took power, Kamala Harris reversed her position on cannabis, the White House fired Staffers for
admitting to cannabis use, and no effort towards decriminalization have been taken by the administration.
However, this is just weed related offences. If we look at some Pharma Phuckups, youâll see even more reasons why not
to trust the government nor the agencies alleged to protect us from these corporations.
Pharma Phuckups!
Iâll put it in the words of Drug Watch;
Big Pharma is also the biggest defrauder of the Federal Government under the False Claims Act, according to consumer
watchdog group Public Citizen.
The industry has a history of fraud, bribery, lawsuits and scandals. Despite criminal charges and fines, Big Pharma companies
continue to do business. - Source (https://www.drugwatch.com/manufacturers/)
From 1998 to 2016, Big Pharma has spent well over $3.5 Billion on lobbying expenses.
In 2011, Merck pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the marketing and sales of Vioxx. The company agreed
to pay the U.S. Department of Justice $950 million to resolve its misconduct.
In a 24-year period, Big Pharma companies paid 373 settlements for marketing fraud. The settlements totaled
$35.7 billion.
Johnson & Johnson is the worldâs largest health care company. It paid $2.2 billion in 2013 for improperly marketing
its drug Risperdal.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Thereâs so much more shitfuckery that abounds and the FDA is virtually being funded
by these guys.
The Sticky Bottom Line

I donât reserve an opinion on the vaccination efforts. I do take issue with the government attempting to force people to
take drugs against their will â even if there is a pandemic happening.
These organizations have a long standing history of abuse and misconduct. The FDA has direct ties with the
pharmaceutical industry and the pharmaceutical industry spends more on lobbying than any other industry in the
world.
If youâre not the least bit skeptical about their actions, then you are willfully ignorant. As cannabis users have known for
decades â you canât really trust âThe Manâ.
So perhaps, if someone says that they are inclined not to get vaccinated â maybe they might have other reasons than
being âanti-vaxâ.
The pandemic may be raging, but that didnât suddenly turn profit seeking heartless organizations into caring entities
eitherâŚ

OPINION
Is Cannabis Now More Popular Than Liquor in a Post COVID-19 World?
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, there were still some hesitations in some states over the use of cannabis. But with California and Illinois tagging it as an
essential service during the pandemic. Medical marijuana started to take over with doctors getting the go-ahead to recommend it when needed. This explosion of
cannabis in states during the pandemic continues post-COVID-19, and it has led to cannabis preference over liquor.
