  5. 5. A reliable and clean water supply is an essential need but a large number ofpeople currently lack this basic provision. Solar water pumps is a socially andenvironmentally attractive technology to supply water. Especially if the needfor water is in remote locations which are beyond the reach of power lines,solar power is often the economically preferred technology. Solar waterpumps can supply water to locations which are beyond the reach ofpower lines. Commonly, such places relies on human or animal power or ondiesel engines for their water supply. Solar water pumps can replace thecurrent pump systems and result in both socio-economic benefits as well asclimate related benefits. The water supplied by the solar water pump can beused to irrigate crops, water livestock or provide potable drinking water.
  6. 6. A solar water pump system isessentially an electrical pumpsystem in which the electricityis provided by one or severalPhotoVoltaic (PV) panels. Atypical solar powered pumpingsystem consists of a solar panelarray that powers an electricmotor, which in turn powers abore or surface pump. Thewater is often pumped fromthe ground or stream into astorage tank that provides agravity feed, so energy storageis not needed for thesesystems. A typical installation isillustrated in Figure.
  7. 7. The vital merit of using a solarpowered shallow is that it willnot require any power supply. As a result it can be used inmany remote locations where grid power is not available. Italso helps to conserve energy. So it will be more economically suitable for the rural population.

Other Contributions1.CONTRIBUTION OF THE TECHNOLOGY TO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SOLAR WATER PUMPS CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN SEVERAL WAYS.SINCE OTHER REMOTE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS ARE LESS RELIABLE THAN SOLAR WATERPUMPS. THE USE OF SOLAR WATER PUMPS THEREFORE PROVIDES A RELIABLE, SAFE ANDADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY WHICH IMPROVES THE COMMUNITYS HEALTH2.CONTRIBUTION OF THE TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT WHEN SOLAR WATER PUMPS REPLACE EITHER DIESEL GENERATED ELECTRICITY OR GRID BASEDELECTRICITY, THERE ARE CERTAIN CLIMATE RELATED BENEFITS. A DIESEL GENERATOR EMITS CO2 DURINGOPERATION AND GRID BASED ELECTRICITY IS USUALLY GENERATED WITH EITHER COAL, OIL OR NATURALGAS WHICH ALSO EMITS CONSIDERABLE QUANTITIES OF CO2. IN CONTRAST. A SOLAR BASED WATER PUMPSYSTEM DOES NOT RESULT IN GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS. EXTENSIVE USE OF SOLAR WATER PUMPSWOULD THEREFORE LEAD TO SUBSTANTIAL GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION REDUCTION.

And the answer to the previousquestion is both yes and no.At first your initial capital cost will be higher than other usual machinesbecause of several aspects of the machine(viz. size, insolation level,pumping head etc).While system size and insolation levels greatly influence the capital costs ofa solar shallow, the operational costs of the system are generally very lowdue to low labor and maintenance costs. In contrast, inexpensive diesel orgas generators have low initial capital costs but require constantmaintenance and the parts have shorter lifetimes which increases operatingcosts. This long-term economic advantage makes solar water pumping morecost-effective to conventional pumping systems, such as diesel andelectrical pumps . A study by the Bureau of Land Management showed thatcertain Solar systems cost only 64 % over twenty years compared to agenerator system did over ten years

Asthere is a huge shortage of conventional energysources in India, anything that can replace todaysmachines with non-renewable energy sources isdefinitely a good investment. In India there are manyremote places which lack the availability ofelectricity, in those regions the only alternative willbe solar energy. As a whole, Solar Shallow will notonly decrease financial problems but also it willincrease agricultural productivity and benefit onmuch more aspects.
