The document summarizes two key projects that the author worked on at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited as a design engineer. For the first project, the Open System Architecture Mission Computer for the Jaguar fighter aircraft, the author helped design hardware modules for the mission computer, resolved issues during integration and flight trials, and implemented design improvements. For the second project, the Display and Mission Computer for the Light Combat Helicopter, the author proposed the video module architecture and prepared test plans for power supply modules.
1. HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LIMITED (Nov’ 12 – Present)
Position: Design Engineer
KEY PROJECTS
Open System Architecture Mission Computer (OSAMC)
Program: DARIN-III Avionics Upgrade
Platform: Jaguar Fighter Aircraft
Description:
OSAMC works as the nerve centre of the Aircraft, controls most of the systems placed in the avionics
network and perform the navigation and weapon guidance hence improving overall operational
capability of the Aircraft. Till date 6 prototype Units of OSAMC has successfully completed 52
flight trials in extreme climatic conditions.
Responsibilities
Design and develop different hardware modules (including analog, video, stoke, power
supply, single board computers) of the Mission Computer from conceptual design to final
product and certification for aircraft application which involves following the entire
hardware development life cycle.
Resolving hardware issues and developing synergy with software team, system group,
aircraft electrical team and Pilots and ensuring successful integration of six Mission
Computers in Jaguar fleet for flight trials.
Preparation of process documents and transfer of technology to production agency viz.
Hardware Design, Bill of Materials, Board level bring up, Acceptance Test Procedure and
Qualification Test Procedure.
Single-handedly resolved video flickering issue in Smart Multifunctional Display of the
Aircraft and convinced the Aircraft pilots with different alternate solutions.
Proposed and implemented alternatives that resulted in approx. 4% weight reduction of the
Unit and overall heat dissipation by approx. 5%.
Dealing with local and foreign Vendors and do their technical evaluation for
procurement of Components and Test Equipment’s.
Display and Mission Computer (DMC)
Program: Integrated Architecture for Display Systems (IADS)
Platform: Light Combat Helicopter
Description:
The DMC is an integrated multirole real time airborne central computer that acquires data from
various on borne helicopter avionics systems, processes it and outputs necessary command to other
on board systems/sub-systems performing the navigation, weapon computation and audio warnings
generation.
Responsibilities
Proposed high level architecture for Video module that drives the Multi-function display of
helicopter and displays terrain moving maps and graphics symbols
Prepared Acceptance test plan for Power Supply Modules of Mission Computer.
Vendor management and procurement of Components for the project
