It is derived from the action taken up by the people and they are responsible for their actions. That’s why they also become accountable for their acts. Sense of accountability in natural form or in enforced form will always bring good towards the society for that, responsibilities have been taken by people. Elected official can also be held accountable as well as voters / other concern parties can choose not to reelect the official if he or she is found accountable in negligence / delayed action / negative action that have harmed the society at large. Even, expulsion clause of U.S. Constitution can be used to remove that elected officials. U.S. President can also be charged through Article I, Sec. 2, Cl. 5 of US constitution. Even, cases of bribe and gross misconduct can also be resolved through necessary clauses given in the constitution.
