Reflective Essay About Rap
I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a new
rap era called "Mumble Rap" caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who
predominately used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known
mumble rappers are: Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Famous Dex, Kodak Black, and Desiigner.
I joined this wave of not liking mumble rap to make myself seem better and more knowledgeable to
this who listen to mumble rap. I would always say that "I only listen to lyrical people, except for Lil
Wayne" or "Mumble rappers are trash and I do not like that". You will usually see me criticizing
people who listen to this new music because I felt as though the music was poisoning to our minds.
Contrary to what I was saying, these were not my true feelings. The only reason I said these things
was because I followed the thoughts and opinion of the much older people of the hip hop audience. I
wanted to be all high and mighty as those individuals and show that I too also enjoyed the rap era
from the 1990s to early 2013. Although I preached about how bad this new rap era is and the kind of
music I listen to, no one pictured me how I pictured me. I began to notice more and more often, so I
began to feel less dislike for the new rap and eventually not care if it is played around me. I would
here one of the mumble rapper's song on the radio and I would find myself liking it. If I am by
myself, I would look

Sir Mix-A-Lot Song Comparison
For this paper I decided to do the original Sir Mix–A–Lot "Baby Got Back" song compared to Nikki
Minaj cover version song called "Anaconda." Both these creative songs are alike in ways but, are
also very different. Sir Mix–A–Lot was a hot early 80's MC rapper and Nikki Minaj is a hot 2000
MC rapper. As I listen to Nikki cover version all I could think about was Sir Mix–A–Lot original
version. I think the lyrics in both songs are a little silly, but it gives the people what they expect
from both rappers. Both rappers have an outgoing style that get the crowds moving and excited to
hear them rap and that's what people expect from them as rappers. I will discuss how both rappers
are different and how both rappers are alike. Also I will discuss what some of their lyrics really
mean. Sir Mix–A–Lot version had a strophic form to his song his words changed throughout the
song, but the melody always stayed the same no matter what poetic unit he was in. Although his
song was all about a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nikki Minaj is known for her go crazy act in just about all her songs she raps about her body and
sex then she go crazy on the beat and makes the people love her. I like Nikki Minaj for the most
part, but I personally think this song wasn't her best. Nikki beat was slower with chords and full of
vulgar language and she is also openly discussed. She did have some decent metaphors like "He toss
my salad like his name was romaine." Or "so I pulled up in the jag, Mayweather with the jab like."
In those lyrics Nikki was referring to having sex and the famous boxer of all time. I do believe
Nikki version was more corrupted because she was a little too open with her lyrics. The one
respectable thing I think Nikki did do was use some of Sir Mix–A–Lot exact words to the song and
stayed on topic. Nikki also had different timbres and a different groove to her cover

Review Of ' The Brilliant Idiots '
Charlamagne is one of the most well–known figures among this generation and celebrities. Born
and raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina is Lenard McKelvey also known as Charlamagne Tha

a local radio station in South Carolina when he was a young adult. . ''In 2005, Charlamagne met

Mama couldn't take Charlamagne's verbal assault any longer. And broke down in tears, as she
reflected on her mother who passed away at the beginning of her career (Starbury 20–23). This
interview has given a negative perception of Charlamagne because he was the one who made her
cry. And even today people talk about the interview and make jokes about it. The first picture comes
from a YouTube video clip from the Tv show ''Guy Code'' posted on April 2nd 2015. The video clip
was of Charlamagne alongside his friend/Comedian Lil Duval answering questions and it is a visual
of Charlamagne's personality. When Lil Duval and Charlamagne are together on the show they

Compare And Contrast T. I And Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
T.I. and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow are two people from different generation, but they have the
same point of view on life, saying that everyone should live their life to the fullest. The main
similarities and differences between these two people and their poem/song is that they both convey
the same message by telling people that they should be happy for what they got, and to not look at
what is ahead or behind but look in the now. They also talked about how men have died for what
they have. Whilst the difference is that T.I. says forget the other people and just do you and he talks
about his personal life more. Henry W. Longfellow on the other hand is giving people purpose to
life, not letting someone else control you. The similarities

Music Is My Passion In The Music Industry
Have you ever had a passion that lasts a lifetime? I want to be in the music industry. I've been in
love with music since I was little. I was three years old when I played my first tune, and i've been
perfecting my lyricism and rhyme scheme since then. There are a variety of different types of music.
There is rock, hip–hop, r&b, electronic, etc. Music is a universal language. Everywhere you go,
music can be heard in all types of languages. Music is all that i want to be involved in for the rest of
my life. Music is my one and only passion. I involve music in everything I do. Even when i'm
taking a test or sleeping, music has some type of involvement. To me, music is life; music is
everything. Music is all I think about 24/7, non–stop. Music also supplies you with money if you're
talented, or if you just work hard. You can earn an infinite amount of money in the music industry
by either being independent, or signing to a record label. Music will always be apart of me, music
completes me. The music industry has been around for over two–hundred years. The recording of
music originated in the mid to late 1800s. When recording was begun, the only music that was
recorded were classical instruments. Overtime, recording music has become easier. This is because

Analysis Of Travis Scott 's Ascension Of Fame
Travis Scott's ascension to fame was unprecedented. His career, marked by the mid–2013 release of
his debut mixtape Owl Pharaoh, had not even began when he signed not only to Epic Records,
which has housed acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson and Celine Dion but also to Grand
Hustle & Very G.O.O.D Beats (as a producer), the label imprints of hip–hop juggernauts T.I. &
Kanye West. Since then he has released a solid project in Days Before Rodeo, Rodeo's predecessor
and has boasted countless credits, producing for many of music's biggest acts such as Drake, Jay–Z,
Kanye West & Rihanna, thus gaining respect and support from fellow musicians and fans alike. The
expectations for this album were high and I evaluated the album in terms of Scott's individuality and
the album's lyrics, features, production, cohesiveness and replay value to see whether the
expectations were met.
Individuality is key; setting yourself apart from the competition and longevity are almost
interchangeable in the music industry. While listening to this project, it is evident that, lyrically,
Scott brings nothing new to the table. Chris Gibbons, writer for Hip–Hop website The Boombox,
states that Scott "wears his influence[s] on his sleeve" and he simply does not care. His melodic,
heavily auto–tuned and high energy songs all point to influences stemming from artists such as
Future, Young Thug, Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd, labelmate Kid Cudi and mentor Kanye West. On
"Apple Pie," Scott states that he's

Lil Wayne Impact On Society
For any kid that was born in the 1990's, it's rare that you will find a person that doesn't mention Lil
Wayne in the greatest of all time conversation. While many older fans seem to have a negative
reaction to that claim, it's hard to deny the impact that Wayne has had in hip–hop. Wayne in his
career has created the term "bling", made mixtapes a popular trend, and one of the few rappers to
sell a million copies in a week without the benefit of streaming. Though Wayne is one of the most
influential rappers in history, his career as of late has struggled to rival those of his peers in the
"greatest" category. Let me explain. A lot of the biggest rappers in the game eventually fall off, in
hip–hop it's inevitable. With the solo projects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When have we ever seen a superstar feel the need to be in someone else's shadow? After the drama
surrounding Wayne and his current label situation, he still would rather turn around and sign to
another artist. Wayne is a Legend, who needed Rick Ross to talk to Birdman like they were at a
parent teacher conference. Ross in one song has said more about the situation than Wayne has, in the
last four years. I don't know what Wayne has in store for music fans, and I honestly don't care. A
few years ago I absolutely hated Young Thug, and now Wayne seems to be the one following in his
footsteps. I'm sure some of you may read this article in anger, but be honest for a second. While I'm
not discrediting the legacy of Wayne, he's been saying his next album was coming soon since 2014.
Why should we still care? On Dj Khaled new trash song "I'm the One", Wayne seemed like the old
man trying to fit in. Jay did the same on his Magna Carter album, but found a balance when he

Rapsody is currently the best right now in my opinion, it's hard to look at a rapper like Cardi as you
can draw so many comparisons between her and Nicki. Many insiders believe for it to be some sort

Essay about What Is R&B and Hip Hop Anymore?
Music is a form of expression that delivers a message. However over the years, the message of
music has changed. Hundreds of years ago, music started with slaves. The slaves would sing
spiritual hymns to motivate them and help keep up their spirits. Later, R&B and Hip Hop formed
and at first there were motivational songs and rappers even rapped about a better life. But over the
last thirty years the motivational songs have ceased. R&B and Hip Hop now is degrading to women,
less subtle, and influences bad behavior. The use of derogative language is very common in new
songs. Especially the derogative word "bitch", which is used as much as a person says hello. The
real meaning of that word is actually female dog, but rappers use it talk ... Show more content on

In "Rock the Boat" many people did not know what she was referring to until they really sat down
and listened. Nowadays all a person has to do is hear a song once and he or she could figure out the
whole song. Not only do songs nowadays have no filter, they also influence bad behavior. Songs
such as "John" by Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, and "Crack" by 2 Chainz influence behaviors such as
shooting people and selling drugs. "John" talks about how they have an AK–47 in their trunk and Lil
Wayne says load it up and "hit them where it hurt." Later in the song Lil Wayne says, "You know the
rule, kill them all and keep moving." This means just shoot and act like nothing happened. In 2
Chainz's song he talks about how he is standing on the corners selling crack, cooking it in his
kitchen, and has over one thousand grams of it on him. The future generations of America are
listening to this stuff, and it is corrupting their minds. R&B and Hip Hop music has definitely
changed over the years. It is now very degrading to women, less subtle, and a bad influence on
people. Music used to motivate people and teach them how to treat women right. Now music tells
people how to talk down to women and have power over them. Songs used to talk about sex before
but in a way where it was not as noticeable; but now it is very common to sing or rap about one's
sexual fantasies. Many songs now only

Analysis Of The Poem ' The American Dream '
The American dream to me is a secure way of life for the future. Having a steady job, no struggles
and financial securities. Living life to the absolute fullest while being successful by doing what you
love. So my idea is supported by connecting to Sam Walton and Jay –Z profiles/interviews. The
interview says no matter how hard you had it growing up, you can still conquer anything if you
work hard enough and put your mind to it. This is the same as the visual image of the homeless
person in the trunk this, tells the reader you can come from nothing and build and work towards
your dreams and goals.
My thesis is Jay –Z and Sam Walton has different views on what the American Dream is. Although
both men had different backgrounds, they both become very successful entrepreneurs. The
rhetorical strategy I used to argue my point is comparing and contrasting. My first line of argument,
a successful person is someone who is an independent, leader, optimistic, goal driven, passionate
patient person. A successful person is a hard worker who is not afraid to try new things.
Therefore, what does it mean to be successful, I believe having strong communication, strong work
ethic, having will power and self–reliance, integrity, faith and never giving up? For example, the
president, mom, and dad. Evidence that I have to back this up is the article in "American Dream:
Dead or on Hold "by Brandon King he states the American dream "is that dream of a land in which
life should be

Gangster Rap : Rap And Black Masculinity
With things, such as explicit lyrics and depiction of women, drugs, and violence an assumption can
be made that gangster rap represents a masculinity that rappers portray themselves as in their songs.
Dating back to its origins, African Americans had always been the face of gangster rap, with such
names like Tupac, Biggie, Jay–Z, DMX, and much more, as covers of rap magazines. Gangster rap
had always been seen as what people interpret it to be and that is a raw rhythmic and explicit
version of poetry in motion, but gangster rap depicts more than what people interpret it to be.
Gangster rap depicts the image of how a strong African American male should look like, a bold,
angry, rebellious, and fierce man. Strong African American males are subjective to gangster rap,
mainly because of how gangster rap portrays masculinity. In "Brotherly Love: Homosociality and
Black Masculinity in Gangsta Rap Muscic" Oware argues that although gangster rap music portrays
the masculinity of African American males through the use of hyper masculinity, misogyny, and
violence in lyrics, gangster rap music also provides a way for rappers to express themselves to
commemorate their fellow friends through lyrics that depict family/friend relationships, success by
association, and have a tribute for lost friends. The importance of friends is often overlooked, but
can be heard from the lyrics of rappers. Oware, of DePauw University, states that for most rappers,
"...friend is synonymous with

was revealed that Minaj was in the running to receive Best Hip Hop Video or Best Female Video for
her big booty anthem. Minaj hopped on social media to thank MTV for the honor, and she didn't

The "Bang Bang" rapper questioned why her Beyonce–assisted video for "Feeling Myself" failed to

The visual received 19.6 million views in 24 hours, besting Miley Cyrus's previous record of 19.3

The video went on to become VEVO Certified, an honor to signify receiving more then 100 million

Ironically enough, Video of the Year contender Taylor Swift managed to best Minaj's record with the
release of "Bad Blood," which received 20.1 million views in 2015. It is possible that Nicki Minaj
was referencing Swift's nomination when she stated that "when the 'other' girls drop a video that

Since its release "Anaconda" has become one of the most successful releases of Nicki Minaj's

Macklemore Song Analyse
Macklemore Essay Last year Nike made 34.3M dollars off of their brand. Shoe companies publish
so many new shoes, so their "devoted consumers" can snatch it for a hefty expense. The
Macklemore song Wing$, addresses the consumer mindset. In the song Macklemore stated,
"Strangled by these laces, laces I can barely talk. That's my air bubble and I'm lost, if it pops." In the
song he is talking about how he was stuck in the consumer loop. When he talks about being
"strangled" by the laces, he means the shoes consume him. He feels he must get the newest
brand/shoe, which is what school is like today. Everyone in school is all about having the latest
things, for example, this year and last year it was all about shoes. Additionally, the laces (shoes) are
forcing him to get the next best thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

also thinks alike. The consumer mindset is when the latest stuff is released and everyone with older
versions are thought different of. For example phones, there are new ones yearly and the old ones
are thought to be obsolete, which means these major companies are getting tons of money by paying
their workers sometimes nothing. In the song Macklemore talks about how his friends couldn't
afford real shoes, and this is still real in the community. Unfortunately, people are looked down

Wings Macklemore Analysis
Reading Response 5 Title of text: Wings Text type: Song Author: Macklemore The song 'Wings' by
Macklemore is about how people identify through the means of consumerism. It also discusses the
fleeting happiness that is intrinsically linked to the almighty power of the purchase. The song is
based on shoes, but it Macklemore aims to paint a broader picture of being a consumer by using his
own experiences of retail infused desire. In the music 'wings' by Macklemore, he preaches against
consumerism in American culture. He uses the example of expensive Nike branded shoes to show
the effect consumerism has on citizens. He writes the song from his own perspective as a young boy

They feel that the brand is the only way they can identify themselves. With this song I think
Macklemore is trying say that we need to dissect our attachment to brands and logos and the
happiness that is associated with the purchasing of these expensive brands. With this song I think he
is trying to take away the strong connection between bands and being 'cool'. The section of lyrics in
the song; "my friend Carlos' brother got murdered for his fours, whoa" Macklemore uses this
metaphor to show how Carlos' brother got totally ripped apart by his peers because his basketball
shoes weren't 'cool' or the right brand. We are so stuck in the world of consumerism and the need to
buy things to be able to relate with others. I can relate to this because on a daily basis I see people
get judged by what they wear and what the own (material goods) rather than them as a person.
When Macklemore wrote this song he hoped to spread awareness of this problem so that it could be
stopped. I also agree with Macklemore that this needs to be stopped and that by spreading
awareness of this issue it could happen. I believe that Macklemore is very smart by using the fame
he has gained in a positive way by helping to spread awareness. I think that year 12s can learn

Music: The Positive Effects Of Rap Music
If you were to ask someone how music has changed their lives, most people would say they listen to
music all the time. People listen to music at the gym, when they're shopping, in the car almost
everywhere. A lot will say that music is relatable, it's a way of art, music has saved people's lives.
However, if you were to ask people about rap music specifically, they would probably say it's
violent, gory, or that they don't like it. Did you know that since rap music became popular violent
crimes have declined? The rap movement has a positive change in society because it exposes the
hardships of discrimination. Rappers have been known to give back to communities, and most
rappers send a positive message to the youth. Rap has also had a positive impact because it
describes the extent to which discrimination really goes to. Rappers are known to address
discrimination and police brutality (Leah). Furthermore, rappers have been using their platforms to

Music and literature have the ability to draw you in and take you to a place that only the author

Music is a path of relaxation and happiness. Rap music has an interesting and exciting effect. Rap
music has an amazing talent of narrating a life story, thought or emotions to a rhythm of sound. Rap

Lyric Analysis: If You Want Love
For the lyric analysis essay, I chose to analyze the rap artist NF and my top six songs by him to help
get a better understanding of what he has been through in his life and how he has gotten to where he
is now. I like these particular songs more than his other ones probably due to my ability to relate to
them on some level as well as the rhythm of the song, most of them are more focused on the lyrics
rather than having loud background music or singing them fast paced. My favorite song of from the
list above is "Wake Up" while my sisters' is "All I Have" and she is the one who introduced me to
this particular rapper. NF uses common themes and touches on social issues in lyrics. The reason for
this is that he is a Christian hip hop artists making his name in mainstream hip hop, he has to be
transparent and relatable to his listeners. "All I Have" is very self–explanatory by the title of the
song. NF probably did not want his listeners to guess the message of the song since it is so
important to him and the fact that rap music is the only thing he has left in his life. A quote that
comes from Chapter 3 of the course textbook that NF would agree with is "'the purpose of life is a

Rap Music : The Most Influence Of Rap Music
"Politically Incorrect " is a term that describes language, ideas, policies, or behaviors that bring
offense to groups of people based on gender, race, culture, age, religion, physical or mental
capability, etc. People could argue that rap music fits into this category or others that it should be
respected as a form of art. In an article written by Lawrence Downes called "A Word Gone Wrong"
he writes, "In cases of discrimination, it's probably best to let those affected speak for themselves."
When artist write music the things that speak of range from racism, police brutality and struggles
they may encounter. Only they can speak for themselves. Rap music is an urban genre that grew
from the hip–hop movement which started in the 1970s. It mashes up instrumental tracks created by
a DJ with rhyming lyrics of an MC also known as a rapper. Rappers express their ideas of feelings
on politics, sexual exploits, conditions of daily life and their characters. Many critics consider rap
the greatest example of postmodern music because it adapts so well the fast and constant self–
promotor that is television. Unlike television, however, rap gives African–Americans a voice to
speak freely for political dispute. For rap music to be seen as frightening to some listeners adds to
its political insult. In a comedy stand up starring Chris Rock he goes on to say, "You have to defend
rap music. Because people always say, 'That's not music, that's not art, that's garbage! How can you
listen to that garbage? How can you listen to that trash?' And in the old days, it was easy to depend
rap music. It was easy to defend it on an intellectual level. You could break it down, intellectually,
why Grandmaster Flash, Run–D.M.C. and Whodini was art in music" (Chris). When listeners hear
the works of these well respected artists they should be aware of the ethnocentric and where they
came from. Rap has made as many fans as enemies, blamed for concerts, riots and accused of
glorifying crime and sexism. For example, Kanye West's release of the song "Famous" sparked
controversy. In the song he says, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that
bitch famous."– The lyrics refer to an event in 2009 at the VMAs when Taylor

Last Summer Travi $ Scott
Last summer Travi$ Scott released Days Before Rodeo, a free mixtape that wouldn 't just serve as
the unofficial countdown for his debut album, but give listeners a sense of what the rapper/producer
is working with sonically. Pounding, acerbic drums, thick, hazy atmospheres, and a confrontational
predisposition would establish Scott as a fearless rising star in rap music. And although the tape was
a welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl Pharaoh, it also did
very little to invite the listener into Scott 's world. Even if Scott had trouble lining up his greatest
attributes, his talent was certainly evident. His production choices, which have been carefully
excavated from the post–808s & Heartbreak musical landscape and Atlanta 's grab–bag of
innovations, can be intriguing, and his rebellious posturing certainly strikes a chord with a certain
angsty personality type. Those rare moments when he finds the right balance–"Basement Freestyle"
is perhaps the best example –can add up to something quite uncanny. With the clock no longer
ticking, Scott returns with Rodeo, an album that looks to position the 21–year–old as a curator of
supreme taste, as well darken his already moody blues. At fourteen tracks Rodeo presents
blockbuster names (Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd), noteworthy rap
talent (Chief Keef, Future, Swae Lee, Quavo, Young Thug), and in–demand producers (Metro
Boomin, Southside, TM88, Zaytoven, FKi, WondaGurl).

Negative Effects Of Rap Music
Rap and hip–hop music impacts on teens and children There is music playing everywhere you walk,
we listen to it for fun, to calm us down and for many other reasons. We listen to all kinds of music
all day. But how you ever thought the bad and good effects that impact children and teens life?
Teens and children do not know the main message behind the music they are listening to stating

between 7* and 12* grades, the average American teenager will listen to 10,500 hours of rock or rap
music as stated by Mickel and Mickel (2002)? There are bad and good impacts on children and
teens life. To begin, Rap and hip–hop have a negative effect on children and teens. Secondly, Hip–

Finally. Rap music has affected the children and teens in a positive way. Rap and hip–hop music has
some similar and different effects on children and teen To begin, Rap and hip–hop have some
similar negative effects on children and teen. In our society, most rap and hip music included many
themes of violence, drug abuse, it also provides videos of sex that are seen by kids and teens.
"children may leave them vulnerable to ideas of violence, sexual promiscuity, and other forms of

stated by brown"(Veda). It was shown that more than 80% of rap and hip–hop music all have
violence in it, which affects the child view of working with problems and solving their problems
because they there are higher chances for them to use violence as they have learned it from. As
Collin states that, "Rap music videos depict or discuss alcohol and drug use more than any other
genre of music videos In rap music videos, the glamorized depictions of alcohol use are often
portrayed in conjunction with sexual imagery, and portrayals of drug use are often depicted as
normal" (Shani 2007). As Morrison has stated, "Marketing messages of hate and violence to

Ti Vs Longfellow
Charles R. Swindoll once stated, "Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you respond to
it." This quote refers to the concept of Romanticism. TI and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow utilize
this concept in their art. TI is an American rapper who rose to fame in the early 2000's. Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet. The art specifically mentioned is T.I.'s "LIve Your
Life" and Longfellow's "A Psalm of Life". T.I. and Longfellow's art favor and differ alike.
Longfellow and TI have a lot in common, written–wise. Both men speak about the life path one
chooses. In lines 2 and 5 of "A Psalm of Life" it states, "Life is but an empty dream!" and "Life is
real! Life is earnest!" In lines 10–11 of T.I.'s "Live Your Life" it states, "You're gonna be... and fancy
car–ars". Both works of art also speak about achieving your goals. In lines 33–35 of Longfellow's
piece, it states, "Let us... Still achieving, still pursuing". In line 24 of T.I.'s piece, it states, "'Cause
I'm a paper chaser, just livin' my life". All of these quotes emphasize how T.I. and Longfellow's

T.I.'s work speaks about the bad decisions one makes. In lines 48–49 of "Live Your Life", it states,

relationship to society. In lines 78–81, it states, "I'm the opposite of moderate... swagger of a college

an intellectual the rapper is. Longfellow, on the other hand, speaks about the qualities of a person. In
lines 19–20 of "A Psalm of Life", it states, "Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife!"

Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay
Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one genre
that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap music videos
have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been criticized
numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music
for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with
clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women exists is because rap
as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. The excuses used to justify the misogyny in

A rapper couldn't use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video,
without getting heat for it" (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap
truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap music
videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance around them.
This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and boys all over the
world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this concerns the parents
of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V directly correlate to their
development and thinking: "exposure to rap music videos, which is explicit about sex and violence
and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky behavior, may influence
adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices" (Thrash). Parents should become more aware of
these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching them. Yet, once they get to
the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important that they are educated about
this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think it would also be important to
provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a problem among girls many

The Representations Of The ' Warzone '
The representations of T.I.'s "Warzone" are described as the Discourses of the symbols used. The
cultural Discourses of T.I.'s work operate in a way such that they draw upon the way things are in
society (Hall 29). Discourses are hegemonic when they operate in this way, meaning that they
coincide with the common–sense ideologies of the established order in society (Gitlin). What makes
a hegemonic ideology hegemonic is its ability to permeate the institutions of society. By this
definition, ideologies of gender are hegemonic because they are arbitrary and successfully
implemented in society's institutions. To elaborate further, there is no particular reason why men and
women need separate restrooms, but this is typically the nature of public restrooms in the United
States. "Warzone" primarily challenges hegemonic ideologies of race while simultaneously
perpetuating such ideologies. "Warzone" is both hegemonic and counterhegemonic through its
discourses on black inferiority and its cultural Discourses pertaining to hip–hop.
In the lyrics of "Warzone", T.I. addresses how the hegemonic ideology of black inferiority
permeates through societal institutions of law. T.I. raps, "The war on drugs was just a war on us /
Give us all these guns, give us all this dust / Change all them laws, lock all of us up". Here, T.I.
speaks on how the war on drugs was perpetuated by the media and has been used to
disproportionately incarcerate black people, and fuel the prison industrial

Comparing T. I's Lyrics And Longfellow
T.I.'s lyrics and Longfellow's poem had some similarities and some differences. T.I. 's lyrics had a
very motivational meaning and an encouraging message to follow your dreams while living life to
the fullest. It explains that you should do what you need to do in order to succeed and have fancy
things like expensive cars and nice clothes. Longfellow's poem was mostly about how we have to
continue to be strong and that you have to accept your fate no matter what happens to you in your
life in the future. T.I.'s lyrics and Longfellow's poem were both similar but different because of their
encouraging message and their purpose to live. The similarities that T.I.'s lyrics and Longfellow's
poem had in common was that they both had their own

Reflective Essay About Rap

  • 1. Reflective Essay About Rap I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a new rap era called "Mumble Rap" caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who predominately used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known mumble rappers are: Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Famous Dex, Kodak Black, and Desiigner. I joined this wave of not liking mumble rap to make myself seem better and more knowledgeable to this who listen to mumble rap. I would always say that "I only listen to lyrical people, except for Lil Wayne" or "Mumble rappers are trash and I do not like that". You will usually see me criticizing people who listen to this new music because I felt as though the music was poisoning to our minds. Contrary to what I was saying, these were not my true feelings. The only reason I said these things was because I followed the thoughts and opinion of the much older people of the hip hop audience. I wanted to be all high and mighty as those individuals and show that I too also enjoyed the rap era from the 1990s to early 2013. Although I preached about how bad this new rap era is and the kind of music I listen to, no one pictured me how I pictured me. I began to notice more and more often, so I began to feel less dislike for the new rap and eventually not care if it is played around me. I would here one of the mumble rapper's song on the radio and I would find myself liking it. If I am by myself, I would look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Sir Mix-A-Lot Song Comparison For this paper I decided to do the original Sir Mix–A–Lot "Baby Got Back" song compared to Nikki Minaj cover version song called "Anaconda." Both these creative songs are alike in ways but, are also very different. Sir Mix–A–Lot was a hot early 80's MC rapper and Nikki Minaj is a hot 2000 MC rapper. As I listen to Nikki cover version all I could think about was Sir Mix–A–Lot original version. I think the lyrics in both songs are a little silly, but it gives the people what they expect from both rappers. Both rappers have an outgoing style that get the crowds moving and excited to hear them rap and that's what people expect from them as rappers. I will discuss how both rappers are different and how both rappers are alike. Also I will discuss what some of their lyrics really mean. Sir Mix–A–Lot version had a strophic form to his song his words changed throughout the song, but the melody always stayed the same no matter what poetic unit he was in. Although his song was all about a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nikki Minaj is known for her go crazy act in just about all her songs she raps about her body and sex then she go crazy on the beat and makes the people love her. I like Nikki Minaj for the most part, but I personally think this song wasn't her best. Nikki beat was slower with chords and full of vulgar language and she is also openly discussed. She did have some decent metaphors like "He toss my salad like his name was romaine." Or "so I pulled up in the jag, Mayweather with the jab like." In those lyrics Nikki was referring to having sex and the famous boxer of all time. I do believe Nikki version was more corrupted because she was a little too open with her lyrics. The one respectable thing I think Nikki did do was use some of Sir Mix–A–Lot exact words to the song and stayed on topic. Nikki also had different timbres and a different groove to her cover ... Charlamagne is a radio and TV personality who started as an intern at a local radio station in South Carolina when he was a young adult. . ''In 2005, Charlamagne met then–radio host Wendy Williams. Eventually, Mama couldn't take Charlamagne's verbal assault any longer. And broke down in tears, as she reflected on her mother who passed away at the beginning of her career (Starbury 20–23). This interview has given a negative perception of Charlamagne because he was the one who made her cry. And even today people talk about the interview and make jokes about it. The first picture comes from a YouTube video clip from the Tv show ''Guy Code'' posted on April 2nd 2015. The video clip was of Charlamagne alongside his friend/Comedian Lil Duval answering questions and it is a visual of Charlamagne's personality. When Lil Duval and Charlamagne are together on the show they always give their honest opinion and come off as mean. July 31, 2014 Charlamagne had almost go into a fight with former rapper Fredro Star during an interview. • 4. Compare And Contrast T. I And Henry Wadsworth Longfellow T.I. and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow are two people from different generation, but they have the same point of view on life, saying that everyone should live their life to the fullest. The main similarities and differences between these two people and their poem/song is that they both convey the same message by telling people that they should be happy for what they got, and to not look at what is ahead or behind but look in the now. They also talked about how men have died for what they have. Whilst the difference is that T.I. says forget the other people and just do you and he talks about his personal life more. Henry W. I was three years old when I played my first tune, and i've been perfecting my lyricism and rhyme scheme since then. There are a variety of different types of music. There is rock, hip–hop, r&b, electronic, etc. Music is a universal language. Everywhere you go, music can be heard in all types of languages. Music is all that i want to be involved in for the rest of my life. Music is my one and only passion. I involve music in everything I do. Even when i'm taking a test or sleeping, music has some type of involvement. To me, music is life; music is everything. Music is all I think about 24/7, non–stop. Music also supplies you with money if you're talented, or if you just work hard. You can earn an infinite amount of money in the music industry by either being independent, or signing to a record label. Music will always be apart of me, music completes me. • 6. Analysis Of Travis Scott 's Ascension Of Fame Travis Scott's ascension to fame was unprecedented. His career, marked by the mid–2013 release of his debut mixtape Owl Pharaoh, had not even began when he signed not only to Epic Records, which has housed acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson and Celine Dion but also to Grand Hustle & Very G.O.O.D Beats (as a producer), the label imprints of hip–hop juggernauts T.I. & Kanye West. Since then he has released a solid project in Days Before Rodeo, Rodeo's predecessor and has boasted countless credits, producing for many of music's biggest acts such as Drake, Jay–Z, Kanye West & Rihanna, thus gaining respect and support from fellow musicians and fans alike. The expectations for this album were high and I evaluated the album in terms of Scott's individuality and the album's lyrics, features, production, cohesiveness and replay value to see whether the expectations were met. Individuality is key; setting yourself apart from the competition and longevity are almost interchangeable in the music industry. While listening to this project, it is evident that, lyrically, Scott brings nothing new to the table. Chris Gibbons, writer for Hip–Hop website The Boombox, states that Scott "wears his influence[s] on his sleeve" and he simply does not care. His melodic, heavily auto–tuned and high energy songs all point to influences stemming from artists such as Future, Young Thug, Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd, labelmate Kid Cudi and mentor Kanye West. • 7. Lil Wayne Impact On Society For any kid that was born in the 1990's, it's rare that you will find a person that doesn't mention Lil Wayne in the greatest of all time conversation. While many older fans seem to have a negative reaction to that claim, it's hard to deny the impact that Wayne has had in hip–hop. Wayne in his career has created the term "bling", made mixtapes a popular trend, and one of the few rappers to sell a million copies in a week without the benefit of streaming. Though Wayne is one of the most influential rappers in history, his career as of late has struggled to rival those of his peers in the "greatest" category. Let me explain. A lot of the biggest rappers in the game eventually fall off, in hip–hop it's inevitable. With the solo projects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When have we ever seen a superstar feel the need to be in someone else's shadow? After the drama surrounding Wayne and his current label situation, he still would rather turn around and sign to another artist. I don't know what Wayne has in store for music fans, and I honestly don't care. A few years ago I absolutely hated Young Thug, and now Wayne seems to be the one following in his footsteps. I'm sure some of you may read this article in anger, but be honest for a second. While I'm not discrediting the legacy of Wayne, he's been saying his next album was coming soon since 2014. Later, R&B and Hip Hop formed and at first there were motivational songs and rappers even rapped about a better life. But over the last thirty years the motivational songs have ceased. R&B and Hip Hop now is degrading to women, less subtle, and influences bad behavior. The use of derogative language is very common in new songs. Especially the derogative word "bitch", which is used as much as a person says hello. The real meaning of that word is actually female dog, but rappers use it talk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "Rock the Boat" many people did not know what she was referring to until they really sat down and listened. Nowadays all a person has to do is hear a song once and he or she could figure out the whole song. Not only do songs nowadays have no filter, they also influence bad behavior. Songs such as "John" by Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, and "Crack" by 2 Chainz influence behaviors such as shooting people and selling drugs. "John" talks about how they have an AK–47 in their trunk and Lil Wayne says load it up and "hit them where it hurt." Later in the song Lil Wayne says, "You know the rule, kill them all and keep moving." This means just shoot and act like nothing happened. In 2 Chainz's song he talks about how he is standing on the corners selling crack, cooking it in his kitchen, and has over one thousand grams of it on him. The future generations of America are listening to this stuff, and it is corrupting their minds. R&B and Hip Hop music has definitely changed over the years. It is now very degrading to women, less subtle, and a bad influence on people. Music used to motivate people and teach them how to treat women right. Now music tells people how to talk down to women and have power over them. Songs used to talk about sex before but in a way where it was not as noticeable; but now it is very common to sing or rap about one's sexual fantasies. Many songs now only ... Living life to the absolute fullest while being successful by doing what you love. So my idea is supported by connecting to Sam Walton and Jay –Z profiles/interviews. The interview says no matter how hard you had it growing up, you can still conquer anything if you work hard enough and put your mind to it. This is the same as the visual image of the homeless person in the trunk this, tells the reader you can come from nothing and build and work towards your dreams and goals. My thesis is Jay –Z and Sam Walton has different views on what the American Dream is. Although both men had different backgrounds, they both become very successful entrepreneurs. The rhetorical strategy I used to argue my point is comparing and contrasting. My first line of argument, a successful person is someone who is an independent, leader, optimistic, goal driven, passionate patient person. A successful person is a hard worker who is not afraid to try new things. Therefore, what does it mean to be successful, I believe having strong communication, strong work ethic, having will power and self–reliance, integrity, faith and never giving up? For example, the president, mom, and dad. Evidence that I have to back this up is the article in "American Dream: Dead or on Hold "by Brandon King he states the American dream "is that dream of a land in which life should be ... • 16. Gangster Rap : Rap And Black Masculinity With things, such as explicit lyrics and depiction of women, drugs, and violence an assumption can be made that gangster rap represents a masculinity that rappers portray themselves as in their songs. Dating back to its origins, African Americans had always been the face of gangster rap, with such names like Tupac, Biggie, Jay–Z, DMX, and much more, as covers of rap magazines. Gangster rap had always been seen as what people interpret it to be and that is a raw rhythmic and explicit version of poetry in motion, but gangster rap depicts more than what people interpret it to be. Gangster rap depicts the image of how a strong African American male should look like, a bold, angry, rebellious, and fierce man. Strong African American males are subjective to gangster rap, mainly because of how gangster rap portrays masculinity. In "Brotherly Love: Homosociality and Black Masculinity in Gangsta Rap Muscic" Oware argues that although gangster rap music portrays the masculinity of African American males through the use of hyper masculinity, misogyny, and violence in lyrics, gangster rap music also provides a way for rappers to express themselves to commemorate their fellow friends through lyrics that depict family/friend relationships, success by association, and have a tribute for lost friends. The importance of friends is often overlooked, but can be heard from the lyrics of rappers. Oware, of DePauw University, states that for most rappers, "...friend is synonymous with ... • 18. Macklemore Song Analyse Macklemore Essay Last year Nike made 34.3M dollars off of their brand. Shoe companies publish so many new shoes, so their "devoted consumers" can snatch it for a hefty expense. The Macklemore song Wing$, addresses the consumer mindset. In the song Macklemore stated, "Strangled by these laces, laces I can barely talk. That's my air bubble and I'm lost, if it pops." In the song he is talking about how he was stuck in the consumer loop. When he talks about being "strangled" by the laces, he means the shoes consume him. It also discusses the fleeting happiness that is intrinsically linked to the almighty power of the purchase. The song is based on shoes, but it Macklemore aims to paint a broader picture of being a consumer by using his own experiences of retail infused desire. In the music 'wings' by Macklemore, he preaches against consumerism in American culture. He uses the example of expensive Nike branded shoes to show the effect consumerism has on citizens. They feel that the brand is the only way they can identify themselves. With this song I think Macklemore is trying say that we need to dissect our attachment to brands and logos and the happiness that is associated with the purchasing of these expensive brands. With this song I think he is trying to take away the strong connection between bands and being 'cool'. The section of lyrics in the song; "my friend Carlos' brother got murdered for his fours, whoa" Macklemore uses this metaphor to show how Carlos' brother got totally ripped apart by his peers because his basketball shoes weren't 'cool' or the right brand. We are so stuck in the world of consumerism and the need to buy things to be able to relate with others. I can relate to this because on a daily basis I see people get judged by what they wear and what the own (material goods) rather than them as a person. When Macklemore wrote this song he hoped to spread awareness of this problem so that it could be stopped. I also agree with Macklemore that this needs to be stopped and that by spreading awareness of this issue it could happen. I believe that Macklemore is very smart by using the fame he has gained in a positive way by helping to spread awareness. I think that year 12s can learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Rap Music : The Most Influence Of Rap Music "Politically Incorrect " is a term that describes language, ideas, policies, or behaviors that bring offense to groups of people based on gender, race, culture, age, religion, physical or mental capability, etc. People could argue that rap music fits into this category or others that it should be respected as a form of art. In an article written by Lawrence Downes called "A Word Gone Wrong" he writes, "In cases of discrimination, it's probably best to let those affected speak for themselves." When artist write music the things that speak of range from racism, police brutality and struggles they may encounter. Only they can speak for themselves. Rap music is an urban genre that grew from the hip–hop movement which started in the 1970s. It mashes up instrumental tracks created by a DJ with rhyming lyrics of an MC also known as a rapper. Rappers express their ideas of feelings on politics, sexual exploits, conditions of daily life and their characters. Many critics consider rap the greatest example of postmodern music because it adapts so well the fast and constant self– promotor that is television. Unlike television, however, rap gives African–Americans a voice to speak freely for political dispute. For rap music to be seen as frightening to some listeners adds to its political insult. In a comedy stand up starring Chris Rock he goes on to say, "You have to defend rap music. Because people always say, 'That's not music, that's not art, that's garbage! How can you listen to that garbage? How can you listen to that trash?' And in the old days, it was easy to depend rap music. It was easy to defend it on an intellectual level. You could break it down, intellectually, why Grandmaster Flash, Run–D.M.C. and Whodini was art in music" (Chris). When listeners hear the works of these well respected artists they should be aware of the ethnocentric and where they came from. Rap has made as many fans as enemies, blamed for concerts, riots and accused of glorifying crime and sexism. For example, Kanye West's release of the song "Famous" sparked controversy. • 31. Last Summer Travi $ Scott Last summer Travi$ Scott released Days Before Rodeo, a free mixtape that wouldn 't just serve as the unofficial countdown for his debut album, but give listeners a sense of what the rapper/producer is working with sonically. Pounding, acerbic drums, thick, hazy atmospheres, and a confrontational predisposition would establish Scott as a fearless rising star in rap music. And although the tape was a welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl Pharaoh, it also did very little to invite the listener into Scott 's world. Even if Scott had trouble lining up his greatest attributes, his talent was certainly evident. His production choices, which have been carefully excavated from the post–808s & Heartbreak musical landscape and Atlanta 's grab–bag of innovations, can be intriguing, and his rebellious posturing certainly strikes a chord with a certain angsty personality type. Those rare moments when he finds the right balance–"Basement Freestyle" is perhaps the best example –can add up to something quite uncanny. • 33. Ti Vs Longfellow Charles R. Swindoll once stated, "Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you respond to it." This quote refers to the concept of Romanticism. In lines 78–81, it states, "I'm the opposite of moderate... swagger of a college kid". In a nutshell, this says that society judges T.I. by the rapper's image before they get to see what an intellectual the rapper is. Longfellow, on the other hand, speaks about the qualities of a person. In lines 19–20 of "A Psalm of Life", it states, "Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife!" Rap has been criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. A rapper couldn't use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video, without getting heat for it" (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap music videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance around them. This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and boys all over the world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this concerns the parents of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V directly correlate to their development and thinking: "exposure to rap music videos, which is explicit about sex and violence and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky behavior, may influence adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices" (Thrash). Parents should become more aware of these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching them. Yet, once they get to the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important that they are educated about this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think it would also be important to provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a problem among girls many companies and organizations put together workshops to educate young girls. One example of this is Dove's Self Esteem ... • 38. The Representations Of The ' Warzone ' The representations of T.I.'s "Warzone" are described as the Discourses of the symbols used. The cultural Discourses of T.I.'s work operate in a way such that they draw upon the way things are in society (Hall 29). Discourses are hegemonic when they operate in this way, meaning that they coincide with the common–sense ideologies of the established order in society (Gitlin). What makes a hegemonic ideology hegemonic is its ability to permeate the institutions of society. By this definition, ideologies of gender are hegemonic because they are arbitrary and successfully implemented in society's institutions. To elaborate further, there is no particular reason why men and women need separate restrooms, but this is typically the nature of public restrooms in the United States. "Warzone" primarily challenges hegemonic ideologies of race while simultaneously perpetuating such ideologies. "Warzone" is both hegemonic and counterhegemonic through its discourses on black inferiority and its cultural Discourses pertaining to hip–hop. In the lyrics of "Warzone", T.I. addresses how the hegemonic ideology of black inferiority permeates through societal institutions of law. T.I. raps, "The war on drugs was just a war on us / Give us all these guns, give us all this dust / Change all them laws, lock all of us up". Here, T.I. speaks on how the war on drugs was perpetuated by the media and has been used to disproportionately incarcerate black people, and fuel the prison industrial ...
