Editor's Notes
Although the video is parallel to the songs genre it still is original to other rap/hip-hop music videos out at the moment and is completely different to the “Grillz” video itself. The way in which our video is similar to other rap videos is that it has a large group all together in many shots which rap videos mainly have this as they include a lot of people like the snapshots from these rap videos.
We have used conventional camera angles for a rap video, we have used a lot of long shots and low angle shots to show power and let the camera see everyone that is on the screen. We used 4 different rap videos for our research and got a lot of the ideas for our video from theirs. We got our idea to put each rapper’s name on the video from Young Money’s ‘Bed Rock’.
We used the same picture for our CD cover as we did our poster as we thought it matched the genre of the music very well. The photo includes all the group and shows attitude and confidence, similar to other rap album covers such as this young money one.
Our main idea for our outfit came from Jessie J’s outfit in “Do it like a dude” which consists off a leotard, fashion tights and a jacket. We liked this because we thought it had attitude and was girly but also very ‘gangster’ which fits the genre of the song. Rappers are famously known for wearing a lot of jewellery or ‘bling’ as it is called, so we wore this too. We got the idea of wearing fur coats and Grillz from the original ‘Grillz’ video.
Our video is good as it has many different camera angles, and it is not all done it one place. We did four long shots, 1 low angle, 1 close up and one medium close up. This give variety to the video and makes it more fun and original. We did low angle shots because they are conventional and the long shots to show all the members of the group in one.
We are very proud of syncing the song into the video and making it look as one, this was the most difficult task as we had to get it exactly in time but it is what made the biggest change to the video and made it look professional.
The one thing we could have improved was the camera positioning on some of the shots, as we later noticed the camera bag was in the corner of the shot, making our video look unprofessional.
We wanted our video to be humorous but also fit into the rap genre and we was happy our audience feedback said we did both of these meaning our video was a success. We was not sure about using the dark lighting but our audience seemed to find this as a good feature so we was happy about hearing this comment mostly.
We edited our video on Adobe Premier Pro and learnt a lot when doing so We found out about the different effects you can put onto it.It was quick and easy learning how to put the shots in order and cut them down, the hardest part was fitting the video into the song and making it look in sync.
We used many effects on our shots because we had always planned to do our video at the night time but they camera could not see us very well so we added effects to make us clearer. One most of the shots we used black and white and we got the idea for this from many different videos such as “Soldier” by Destiny’s Child and “Drop It Like Its Hot” by Snoop Dogg.
For this part of the video we increased the saturation and decreased the contrast. This darkened the background and made the group stand out. We also put a green blue colour over the top as we liked the effect.
