1. The Avengers Teaser Trailer Analysis
The trailer is comprised entirely of a pitch black screen
that steadily lights up as The Avengers logo is revealed.
This connotes the sense of danger in the film and that
The Avengers are what’s going to get them out of the
darkness.
Since it’s a teaser trailer, the amounts of conventions
are substantially stripped down to just three
conventions: The logo of the film, a voiceover and the
institutional logo (Seen at the top of the The Avengers
logo).
The trailer features a non-diegetic voice over, this voice
over also covers as use of star since it’s the voice of
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. This voiceover also
offers some exposition as to what the film’s about as
it’s a quote taken directly from the film.
Enigmas are created in this trailer due to its complete
lack of conventions, so people are left wondering what
the entire film is about. Also if someone who hasn’t
seen the other Marvel films has just seen this trailer,
they’ll be left wondering who The Avengers are.
Despite its lack of regular trailer conventions, it does
have a couple of conventions of modern Superhero
movies. For one, it’s in a dark tone, similar to that of the
likes of the Spider-Man films and the other Marvel
films. Two, it has a voiceover giving some exposition
which is regularly seen in trailers for films such as The
Dark Knight.
