1. Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
2. Preliminary task
In my preliminary task I had to be able to film three shots with three
different editing techniques for each shot.
The three editing techniques were Shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule
and match on action
I was able to complete all of these editing techniques, however I did
struggle with completing the 180 degree rule as I didn’t understand
what it was until I had research .
However in the end we were able to complete all of these editing
techniques which was effective as I was fully able to understand and
therefore use them in my actual media thriller film
Because me and my group were able to complete these editing
techniques as a team we realized that we would also benefit from
working together for our main task which we decided was the right
choice.
3. What have you learned?
From making a longer film I have learned that in order for all of film to make
sense for both me and my audience that I had to be organized in the sense that
I always needed my shooting script and my story board whenever I was filming
as I was able to follow It from the shooting script and know what I originally
wanted to shot to be like from the story board.
I also learned that instead of doing a simple one to one conversation, in my
media product I needed to add the appropriate forms and conventions of a
psychological thriller film, whereas this was needed in the preliminary task a
the task was a short pre-designed conversation.
4. Importance of research
I have also learned that research is very important for creating the best thriller
film that I wanted. For example I needed to research my certification for my
target audience, I also needed to research what my target audience liked and
expected to see in thriller films which then meant I could apply it to my own
thriller film to make it more effective and relate it to my desired target
audience.
I also needed to research some of the editing techniques that I didn’t already
know, for example the 180 degree rule.
Therefore research is incredibly important in creating a positive and effective
impact on my media product
5. What would I do differently?
If I was to be given the opportunity to do the process again, the only factors that I
would change is the idea of the thriller film and the plot around it, this is because
as we were filming our product we realized that w had to include and change
shots and scenes around from our original shooting script and story board as we
found that it does not make sense other wise.
Also I would use my own camera to film our product to get better footage.
However apart from this I was happy with the groups that I was in because I
found that we worked incredibly well as a team which I believe was then
reflected on our final product.
