Highway Disparities In America
The essay is talking on how after the World War I ended Lieutenant Colonel participated in the war
department project. There was a desperté need for a bette and safer hughways in America, Safety an
annual toll of nearly 40,000 killed and 1.3 million injured due to the bad road conditions we had on
the highways. The country urgently needef to modernized interstate highway system to relieve
existing congestion, to provide for the expected growth of motor vehicle traffic, also to strengthen
the Nation's defenses, to reduce the toll of human life exacted each year in highway accidents, and
to promote economic developments for the better. This was a big demand because more than 9.5
million people, has a job directly connected with highways or their

Winona Lake Case Study
Over the past three months Winona Lake has experienced some roadblocks with completion of the
Greenway Project. Craig Allebach the town coordinator is responsible for procuring grants, and
managing everything on behalf of the town. The Greenway trail starts at a traffic light and goes out
to South town. They plan to cross a creak and install a boardwalk. Next, it will wind around, and
cross at Muirfield. Then it will wind around the baseball and the soccer field. Finally, it will go right
by trail house and terminate at Beta Hall. The target completion date for the Greenway project is in
2016 due to seating and landscaping. "Once we started the project we got all the trees cleared, then
they started trying to build the actual path," says Allebach. "There was bad soils and the soil are in
certain parts of the trail. There is peat and there is a soil called morrow," Allebach said. ... Show

"You cannot put anything heavy on that or it's just going to sink down," said Allebach. Winona Lake
is notorious for bad soil due to the water levels so you have to put down pilling sometimes when

They had to stop the project and figure out how they were going to address the soil issue. Over three
months they have been trying to determine what the issue was, how to correct it, and what it was
going to cost. "There was a cost increase of $131, 000," said

Highway Maintenance Worker Essay
The career I chose is Highway maintenance worker. I chose this job because I am good at working
with my hands and getting involved. As well as I can operate big semi trucks and machinery that
that job requires me to use. Thus I would be able to advance through ranks quickly. This career
wasn't needed until the year 1925 when the first transcontinental highway was made, state route 30.
In 1921 Bureau of Public Roads was authorized to fund for the building of highways, by the Federal
Highway Act.
With being employed as a Highway Maintenance worker you have to be able to drive trucks to the
work sites that are carrying the equipment. Together with, drive trucks or vehicles that remove snow
from roadways. Set construction signs and cones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

vacations and holidays for benefits, they also belong to a union. You have to be flexible to being
able to get to any highway that gets damaged; you may be on call to emergency highway accidents.
Highway maintenance workers can advance to other road repair occupations. With additional
training, they can become paving machine operators. They may also become bulldozer, grader, or
other heavy equipment operators. The job of a highway maintenance worker is projected to increase
by ten percent.
To qualify for the job you need to be in above average body condition to work, so you can carry

Governments Should Spend Money on Improving Public...
Governments Should Spend Money On Improving Public Transportation Many people in the world
want their countries to be developed, and they want to have a good quality of life. Also, they want
their countries to have strong potential economy to compete with other nations. As a result, it is
necessary for the government to work on improving facilities which are the basic foundation of life.
In my opinion, governments should spend more money on improving public transportation, such as
buses, subways, and trains instead of working on the construction of new roads and highways for
several reasons. The first reason is to encourage people to use public transportation. Right now,
many people feel that using public transportation, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Driving Prosability
With the U.S. having the second largest passenger car market in the world, a total of 6,872,729 cars
sold in 2016(OICA, 2017), it is no wonder that we rank 19th worst on the traffic index. The
countries that rank the best on the index are all from europe(Numbeo,2017). So what is it that
europe is getting correct about traffic? It boils down to 3 major items, roundabouts and
sharedspaces, strict following to regulation and, public roads without speed limits.
The implementation of all these solutions would have to start at a basic level, the driver. Obtaining a
driver's licence in europe is a much more demanding task then in America. For instance most
european countries require an extensive driving course or class where you have to ... Show more

We already have speed limits, a requirement for the use of a turn signal, and by Florida law the far
left lane should only be utilized for overtaking(Fl DOT, 2017). From their the enforcement would
become strict and the speed limits of roads, that were determined to be safe, could increase or be
unrestricted.
As previously stated, typically, most europeans follow the law closely. The laws of the Autobahn are
not as free as many Americans think. First of all, the Autobahn is every highway in Germany, and
not all of them are unrestricted in regard to speed. The majority of the Autobahn follows a speed
limit between 100 and 120 kilometer per hour (approximately 60–75 mile per hour)(BASt, 2015).
One of the unique aspects of the unrestricted sections are advisory speed limits and temporary speed
limits. Temporary speed limits are an ideal that many other countries should adopt. In essence when
the posted speed limit does not apply to the current conditions of the road, the government can
change it. An example of a temporary speed limit in use would be unfavorable weather conditions
such as snow, ice or rain on the road. These reduce the allowed speed of drivers to keep them safe.
Another example is during road work or construction the speed limit can be lowered to keep
workers on the road safer. Sections of road with adjustable speed limits make sure that drivers do
not exceed what is safe in bad condition but also doesn't hold people back in favorable

Currently in the UK, the economic climate is placing additional pressures on highway authorities to
increase efficiency within their capital and operational spends. With limited resource, more efficient
and sustainable methods of working are required to enable the same outputs to be delivered.
The Highway Assest Management Infrastructure Guidance docucment (DfT, 2013) offers the
following interpretation of highway asset management:
"A systematic approach to meeting the strategic need for the management and maintenance of
highway infrastructure assets through long term planning and optimal allocation of resources in

Repairing the Problem with America's Transportation System
There is a serious problem with our nation's roads and highways. I find myself repeatedly avoiding
trips to the city for this very reason, as I'm sure many others do as well. This nerve–wracking
congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of large cities. It
is a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are

every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an increase in cars on the

The Clinton administration proposed a plan called the National Economic Crossroads Efficiency

Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill
at naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little
more closely. It increased the number of non–highway projects to be funded, including $30 million
for a moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about
it. A moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for
roads and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or willing to handle
our transportation problems effectively.

1.1. Background
The Scenic Rim Regional Council covers an area of over 4238km² and includes the towns of
Beaudesert, Boonah, Mt Tamborine, Canungra, Harrisville, Kalbar and Peak Crossing. The region is
currently predominantly agricultural and also boasts a large tourist industry. The total population of

A Comparison Of John Updike's J And PAnd Eveline
In "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, we are given a piece of art that simply will leave you
clueless unless, you understand the pain and frustration the man is going through; when choosing
what route he feels will give him the most joy. In the poem a man is walking through the woods and
he comes upon a fork. He who wants to take both roads chooses the route that he feels is traveled
less on. Little does he know that both road have been equally traveled on. He who travels on the
route that has fresher leaves lies to himself, by convincing himself that he will come back and take
the other route. Though it was a very stressful and a hard decision for the man to make, many people
are put into very similar situations like in John Updike's A and P and as well as in James Joyce's
Eveline. Both Sammy and Eveline find it troubling to make a decision that will change their life
completely.
In John Updike's J and P, Sammy a hard working young man takes an easy decision that not only
makes him lose his job, but change his life forever. Sammy who's works as a cashier at a local
grocery store. Is put in a situation where "three girls in nothing but bathing suits,"(Updike), walk in
the store and aren't following the dress code. Unfortunately everyone was staring at them with
disrespect; everyone but Sammy, who believes what Queenie and her friends were making a
statement that shouldn't be overlooked. He wanted to stand up for the girls, but Sammy began to

Why Highways Are Improved and
Constructed
Enhancing an existing highway is preferred to the construction of a new one. Highways are
developed to meet general traffic needs, to eliminate or decrease negative impacts caused by traffic
or when changes in land use so require. A new highway shall be constructed when the existing
highway network no longer meets the requirements of traffic or land use, and these requirements
cannot be satisfied or eliminated through road improvements or other transport system
developments, or the negative impacts caused by traffic cannot be reduced enough.
Reasons to improve existing highways and construct new ones include the following:

purposes, feasibility studies can have different names and content. The most common project–
specific feasibility studies are the development study, needs assessment and development/action
plan. The beginning points of a feasibility study are existing land use and current road and traffic
conditions. Societal development make changes in travel needs and traffic conditions. These
changes are examined during the feasibility study phase and the actions required to meet the goals
set for the development of traffic conditions are planned.
The outcome of the feasibility study is a project or several projects for which preliminary
examinations have been conducted of possible alternative actions, including the related impacts and

During the feasibility study, the need for interaction varies according to the nature of the project.
Participation by municipalities and regional councils are usually emphasized during co–operation.

Summary Of ' The Adventure '
The adventure began when we decided to leave on Thursday, September 22, 2016. The three of us
got up and took the bus to the Big Lots parking lot to get it prepared for the road. A little after 1pm
we were all prepared to depart Wilkes–Barre, PA. The jeep was hooked up to the bus and we ran a
test drive to make sure all the parts are working as they should. Now it was time to say our fair
wells. My niece Taina did not make it any easier to depart. With responses such as "you're not
leaving" or "I am going with you" makes it harder to leave. Taina did not want us to leave, and as
much as it made her sad, it also made us sad. This was not good bye, more of a see you later as they
will come and visit. My sister had her sunglasses on so you could not see her eyes, nor could you
see if she was impacted by our departure. I KNOW THE TRUTH IZA!! LOL Off we went! While
on the highway we noticed someone in a black BMW with PA plates taking pictures of the bus. At
first it was nice to see that someone else enjoys the look of a beautiful vintage bus, but it's because a
little creepy. This man drove pass the bus and far ahead that his car was not noticeable, pulled off to
the shoulder of the highway to take more pictures or videos. He stopped his car on the shoulder of
the highway on a limb, as he would not know if we got off the exit before or if we continued on the
same highway. His chance taking paid off because we passed him and noticed him to the right of us.

Descriptive Essay On The Pond
The Pond
It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had
been muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the
sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling
cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes.
Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck
was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we
could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that's what we began to do. But, as we
sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn't stand it any longer. We hopped back on our
bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main
road.
We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. "We can keep going down here and get
there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that'll be faster."
We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong
decision.
I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the
brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I'd hit the web, panic
and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We'd get back up, rinse and repeat for
about another mile. Once we were back

Abstract
During the 1920s and 1930s, Britain saw a movement of its inner–city industries moving out to
adjacent sites which lead to Britain's road network to be redeveloped.
Britain's first motorway , the 13 km Preston bypass was opened in 1958, and following this the
Goverment planned to improve 6750km of road to at least dual carriageway standard to form
strategic inter–urban network for England. This network was marked as a national commitment,
which would enhance road safety, be easily connected to all major centres of population, promote
economic growth and regional development.

Porous Asphalt Research Paper
Asphalt pavement can be found on more than 94 percent of America's paved roads. Interstate
highways, urban streets and rural lanes all depend on asphalt for durable, smooth, economical
pavements. Asphalt pavement is also the most popular choice for parking lots. Despite the fact that
asphalt pavement is already environmentally friendly, the asphalt industry has worked tirelessly to
make it even more environmentally green. The latest development in green paving is porous asphalt.
What Is Porous Asphalt? Porous asphalt, which is sometimes called permeable asphalt, allows water
to infiltrate beneath the pavement. After the water percolates through the pavement, it reaches a
special drainage system that redirects the water back into the soil.

Increase Of Regulation For Winter Road Maintenance
Increase in Regulation for Winter Road Maintenance Everyone has dealt with an experience where
they are driving down a "cleaned" road, and all of a sudden, they hit an ice patch. The winter road
crews have been over the roads, but nevertheless, the road is not safe. The lane will be clean. Then,
a block later, it will be covered in ice. In the city of Nampa, this situation tends to be encountered
more than necessary. When someone travels from Canyon County to Ada County, there is a clear
distinction between the levels of care. Roads in Boise are usually better taken care of compared to
the morning traffic in Nampa. The Treasure Valley needs to increase road maintenance in the winter
creating more mandates for care and researching for a better understanding and process for salting
and clean up. For Idaho, statistics show the negative repercussions and dangers of weather–related
accidents. One study was completed by the United States Department of Transportation showing
how weather relates to car accident statistics (U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway
Administration). In the United States yearly, about 22% of crashes and 16% of fatalities were based
off weather related incidents such as slick roads and bad conditions (U.S. Department of
Transportation Federal Highway Administration). Over a ten year study, 33% of weather related
accidents were based off of snow, sleet, and ice conditions (U.S. Department of Transportation
Federal Highway Administration).

The Nature of Traffic Flow on Freeways
INTRODUCTION A modified approach to explaining the nature of traffic flow on freeways is
described in this research. It has its beginnings in the observations of actual traffic data, which are
not easily and convincingly explained by the conventional traffic flow theories. Most conventional
approaches to studying the relationships between traffic flow characteristics use loop detector data.
The loop detectors are typically 6 by 6 ft inductive loops of electric wires. When a vehicle passes or
stops over such a detector, loop inductance decreases and that induces a higher oscillation
frequency, which then invokes a pulse indicating the presence of vehicle. The Inductive Loop
Detectors (ILD)'s typically measure flow (the number of vehicles that pass it in some time period)
and occupancy (the percentage of time for which the ILD is occupied in that time period). But the
data provided by such ILDs are often fraught with errors. ILDs under–count or over–count under
different freeway traffic conditions. Also the accuracy and consistency of detector data depend
strongly on their installation and calibration procedures. A loop detector with percentage accuracy
within 5% is considered a 'good' one.
This research aims to present a simple queuing analysis of freeway traffic that does not rely on
vehicle occupancy data or effective vehicle lengths.

Designing The Road At Pehiaweri Marea
7. Discussion:
Now I would like to analyse the research I have done to complete my industry project by answering
the following research questions–
Q1.What types of roads are required and how construct the road at pehiaweri marea?
Solution– Sealed road– The road is a way to reach from one place to another. It limits the wider
distances. Sealed road is a road which surface has been permanently sealed by use of one of several
pavements treatment.
Materials used for sealed road– soil, water, asphalt, concrete, tar and Bitumen.
How to construct the road – firstly I will investigate and clear the site of road with grass Extracting.
I will remove extra waste materials. I will inspect the soil because clay soil is soft so that strong soil
is needed for construction of road.
Construction of sealed road involves the following 6 basic steps.
1. Preparation of sub grade
2. Preparation of sub base
3. Preparation of base
4. Preparation of wearing course
5. Preparation of shoulders
6. Opening to traffic
Sub grade act as cushion for other layers. It should be strong. The road will be 182 m in length and 7
m wide. It is compacted by rollers by spraying water one night before. Soil will be stabilized on
place with this process. On the well compacted sub grade, spread broken stones or over burnt bricks
in layers of thickness. The sub– base should be compacted by a roller to provide a plain surface. On
the prepared sub base or directly on the sub grade, the specified materials of the base

e) How will it help to reduce the traffic in West Pennant Hills?
Pennant Hills Road was identified by the NRMA (National Roads and Motorists' Association) as the
3rd worst road in New South Wales and in the Australian Capital Territory, and it is the 2nd worst
road in Sydney's road network. The NorthConnex Tunnel is expected to remove 9000 cars and 5 000
heavy vehicles off Pennant Hills Road daily, (appendix A) which is sure to help the traffic move
faster. 30 000 motorists are estimated to use the tunnel when it opens (appendix A), however ...

The average speed travelled in the morning peak hours is 28 km/h, and 32km/h in the afternoon
peak hours. The NorthConnex Tunnel is certain to reduce the travel time between these motorways,
as up to 21 traffic lights are bypassed and there is a higher speed limit of 80 km/h, so vehicles are
able to drive faster and shouldn't have to stop (appendix A). With these statistics, NorthConnex
states that trips will be 6 to 15 minutes faster in 2019, and in 2029, 25 minutes faster based in the
current travel conditions on Pennant Hills Road (appendix

Dbq Smart Motorways
Document Title: Smart Motorways In spite of being the buzzword that seems to be on everyone's
lips at the moment most people still don't seem to have a deeper insight in to what the smart
motorway really is. In this article we are going to explore what the smart motorway is, the different
types of smart motorways where to find them and what to do in the event that your car breaks down
on a smart motorway. What are Smart Motorways? Smart motorways are freeways that make use of
technology to minimize and control traffic and enhance journeys. Types of Smart Motorways There
are three main types of smart freeways: Controlled motorways The controlled smart freeway makes
use of three lanes that have different speed restrictions determined suitably ... Show more content on

Even so, if you happen to be caught up in such a scenario there are a number of steps you need to
take. If you are able to reach an emergency refuge area, then use it. In the event that there is no
refuge area in your vicinity, try and go on to the edge as long as there is no safety boundary and it is
secure for you to move there. Put on your hazard warning lights. If by any chance you halted in the
nearside lane and there is a safety boundary, you can exit from your car through the nearside left
hand door and wait at the rear of the barrier. However, if you cannot move, it is advisable to wait in
the car and keep your seatbelt on. If it is feasible for you to exit from the car safely and get to the
roadside emergency telephone, then do so and get in touch with the Highways England but if it is
not a viable option, remain in the car, keep your seat belt on and call 999. There is no doubt that
smart motorways are a step in the right direction when it comes to dealing with the issue of
congestion and clogging of the freeways. However, you need to be conversant with what it is you
have to do in the event of an incident along the

TRAFFIC VIOLATION PHOTOGRAPHY
The world population is increasingly becoming larger each and every day that passes with a lot of
people moving up the social status ladder. As a result of this movement up the social status, a lot of
people have bought vehicles that have now filled our roads. With that regard, the number of road
accidents has also been on an increasing trend with a lot being recorded on the many superhighways
that exist today. Thus, there have been many laws that have enacted to control the rising number of
accidents on our roads (Lavender). These laws have been effected to some extent, but still there are
more accidents happening on our roads. There are many things that usually happen on our roads
apart from accidents, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was more surprising with this regards was that a vehicle that was recorded by the cameras as
not being in motion was also singled out to be speeding. The good thing is that these contractors
have admitted that their cameras are usually prone to several factors that do affect them thus making
them show erroneous speed limits. For instance, they have singled out the electromagnetic anomaly
as one of the factors causing the errors. The bad thing is the manner with which they take to realize
such happenings, and many do end up being sued for traffic irregularities. But, later when these
companies manning the cameras have admitted the problem caused was beyond their reach, many
people usually sue them. The court process is usually a hectic one that ends up most the time on the
contractors side thus the plaintiff ends up wasting money. Irregularities with regards to ticketing
have also been a challenge. The actual speed gotten as a result of the photo taken in time sequence
have been incorrect thus, the motorists end up issued with tickets that are not showing the actual
speed. And thus, the motorists who might be conscious of their actions usually end up wasting their
money on accusations that are not real (Treiterer 17). Legal Issues
Since the inceptions of the traffic photography, a lot of problems have been witnessed with regards
to the laws surrounding how the cameras

Crumple Zone Research Papers
A crumple zone is a very important part of a car. Without crumple zones there would be a higher
risk of someone dying or getting seriously hurt when involved in a car accident. Before this term I
didn't have a great knowledge on how important crumple zones actually were, how they worked or
the different types. In class Mr Window showed us some educational videos about crumple zones
and the part that I found the most interesting was when they did an egg throw. The scientist whom
was doing this experiment threw an egg at a brick wall and another egg at a soft sheet. It showed us
the different impacts on the egg and he explained how when the egg hits the sheet it kept moving
just like a person would if they were in a car crash and didn't have a seat belt on
(http://www.iihs.org/iihs/videos). I found it fascinating and couldn't wait to learn more. Crumple
zones are designed to deform and crumple during a collision to keep the drivers and passengers of ...

When someone crashes a car into a wall the car pushes against the wall and the wall pushes back at
the car. The formulas I used in our experiment include: Gravitation Potential Energy (GPE=MGH),
Force (F=GPE÷D) and acceleration (A=F÷M). The GPE depends on the energy stored in the height
of an object, as an example if a heavy object was placed high up, a force is likely to be holding the
object up there, the GPE also helps us work out aspects of other formulas. A force is a push or a
pull, which is measured in Newtons (N), by working out the force we could find out how many
newtons were pushing against the car. Using the force formula I was able to then go on and
calculate the acceleration. The acceleration allowed us to see how far the cart moved and at what
rate, the acceleration is calculated in

The Pros And Cons Of Self Driving Jobs
Although in some respects self–driving cars would cause an increase in unemployment but
generally where jobs are lots, even more are created. The software for autonomous cars has to be
very complex to allow it to navigate the roads while at the same time remaining safe for the driver,
other motorists and pedestrians. This means many new jobs will be created within the software
development market. On top of this there is much competition for the race to build autonomous cars,
over 33 corporations are pushing to create a safe and functional autonomous vehicle, some of these
companies include: Google, Tesla, Apple, Audi, Bosch and General Motors. This healthy
competition between companies is good for both employees as the companies will be putting a lot of
resources into building self–driving cars. Overall the development of self–driving cars does create
many jobs in all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are both created within the production and design of self–driving cars and jobs are lost where
self–driving cars replace the need for other forms of transport. In the long run, self–driving cars will
outweigh the negatives of that they cause on unemployment and the economy. Self–driving cars
have already created many high skilled jobs both designing the hardware and the software that the
cars are dependent on. With the competition between every big car manufacture and tech giants to
develop self–driving cars there are many more jobs being created that need to be filled. Self–driving
cars will help reduce congestion on motorways while help people in cities find parking and travel
more easily around cities. Although it can be argued that jobs will be lost such as taxi drivers, truck
drivers or bus drivers, autonomous cars are at least 3 years away from release if not longer, this
gives for the economy to adapt and change to reduce the impact but to also develop the increasing
range of benefits that self–driving cars

The Effects Of A Highway Expansion On Highway 52
For my research I will be researching a highway expansion on highway 52 from Ft. Lupton all the
way to Keenesburg Colorado, and how the size of the highway affects people in my community. The
issue with this highway is that it is very dangerous because it is only two lanes, and the people that
drive through this highway at times drive very fast. Since there are hills from Keenesburg, at times
the driver cannot see who is coming. This can result in collision crashes. However that is not the
only problem with this highway.
In case of emergencies where one needs to pull over either because of the car problem or because
during the winter the road gets very icy and it is difficult for some cars that are not four by four to
pull over. There is no

Evan Wasted No Time. He Laid Down On His Horn Revving His
Evan wasted no time. He laid down on his horn revving his engine at the vehicle in front of him.
"Come on, Move!" he yelled out his window at the other motorist. The driver of the van caught
Evan's impatience and edged forward, but there was no place for him to go. That didn't matter,
though, because Evan had all the room he needed. In a fluid motion, he forced his steering wheel as
far to the right as it would allow and he let down on the gas. The Pontiac's engine shot up with the
flood of fuel and the vehicle lunged forward into the right lane clipping the front fender of a Toyota.
The driver of the Toyota then yelled out, "What the hell are you doing, you lunatic?" in fright and
anger, her face contorted over Evan's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evan weaved off the shoulder and onto the grass nearly going into a ditch as he made his way
around a police cruiser. He then swerved back onto the highway navigating around an ambulance.
The shouts of, "Hey, pull over!" could be heard coming from officers on the scene. Evan tapped the
brakes as he blew past two more officers and another police unit, then he edged along the side of a
big rig parked on the edge of the road. At the front of the semi, several officers stood along with
another cruiser that was parked horizontally in the middle of the roadway blocking traffic, its lights
fully enforced. The officers looked up from what appeared to be a dead body lying prone in the
roadway, its head concaved, and blood pooling in an outward radius as it trickled down the small
slope of the roadway as it headed for the shoulder. They scattered when they saw the Pontiac
quickly approaching. Evan took the GTO to the far side of the cruiser and managed to circumvent
around it and the body, but in doing so had forced an officer to jump the cement divide that lined the
inner portion of the highway. A few officers had pulled their weapons as they shouted at Evan, but
they didn't have time to use them before the Ford came barreling full–bore through the crime scene
slamming into the horizontal cruiser, then striking an

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Caravans
The days are now longer, warmer – and sunnier. Our thoughts have turned to getting away from it
all, excited at the prospect of waking to a new view somewhere else – perhaps in a friendly B&B, a
local hotel, or a quaint holiday cottage, hidden down a narrow winding lane beneath the trees. There
are those though who prefer roughing it in a tent, and getting truly back to nature – and there are
those who prefer the luxury of a caravan, with plug in power, air conditioning and flush loo – and
the added option of changing your view as often as you wish.
No–one knows exactly how many caravans there are in the UK. I do know I have followed a great
many of them on their way to the beautiful New Forest; and it's not just caravans you'll follow, but

The standard rule of thumb is 85% of the cars unladen weight, which is listed in your owners
manual. Mine for example weighs a rather portly 1950 kg, therefore the largest weight towable is
around 1600 kg.
Anyone who passed their car test before the 1st January 1997, is entitled to drive a vehicle and
trailer combination up to 8250 kg. After this date, the maximum combined weight is 3500 kg, unless
you first pass an additional test to qualify for category B+E – in both cases it's important to note that
the trailer weight must not exceed that of the towing vehicle. License regulations are quite complex

Descriptive Essay About Love
Soft, white sand runs through my toes like corn silk as I lounge in my self–made recliner. With a
smile, my thoughts tumble back on this morning. I was standing in front of the counter; my fingers
pruned in soapy water, when my husband approached me from behind. He wrapped his long arms
around my waist and whispered in my ear, "How would you like to see the ocean today?" Since our
move to Texas mere months ago, I have longed to fulfill my life–long dream. I turned to hug him
with excitement, dish soap trailing down his back from my hands.
In a flurry of excitement, we packed picnic items, towels, and extra clothes, and an hour later we
crept our dusty, black jeep down the driveway. "Wait! I forgot my wallet!" I exclaimed, just as the ...

Dozens of giant trees, skirted with ruby mulch, cast a golden–tinged canopy across the sward. My
husband returned, pulling me out of my reverence. "Didn't you go in yet?" he asked. As I shook my
head and took off, he yelled after me, "Hidey–ho; let's go!" I giggled and picked up my pace.
We finally reached our destination city, and I kept smacking my husband, pointing to all the odd
waterways. I glanced from one body of water to another as we traveled over many tall bridges
toward the ocean. I sat on my feet trying to absorb the colossal panorama. As far as I could see,
dozens of small bodies of water pooled the area below us. Some were verdant, green marsh lands,
while others were blue, crystalline river bays.
We were getting closer. I knew, because the road was narrowing dramatically, and white sand spilled
over the granite on both sides of the lane. We slowly climbed a particularly sandy path, and as we
crested the hill, there it was. My confusion was clearly evident to my husband, and as we drove onto
the beach, he asked me what was wrong. I could not make my mind understand what I was seeing. I
have never seen anything so big. How could I tell my husband that I was looking at not one sky, but
many, many skies, sewn together by a great Creator. How could I tell my husband that I was not
looking at a large lake, such as the Great Lakes I grew up with, but that I was trying to figure out
how many lakes I was seeing;

Reflection Paper
Life changing... it is a word that I sometimes think about, but never truly understood its' meaning,
until the summer of 2017. During church one morning my pastor was standing up on the stage in
front of the congregation giving the announcements for the week. The final announcement was
regarding a summer mission trip for high school students. The students would go to Reynosa,
Mexico where there is a children's home that my church serves at every year. I had never been on a
mission trip and had never experienced anything like it before, so I decided that I would go on what
could be a life–changing trip.
One month later, I was throwing my suitcase into the back of the old and rusted white van, because
the other van had already been filled up. I had no idea how the van was even allowed to be on the
road anymore because there was rust on the bottom edge of every body panel and door. When I
climbed inside to get into my seat my foot went straight through the thin metal that had been
disintegrated by the rust. I thought to myself that if we were in a crash on this trip, then I would
probably die in this rusted heap of metal. An hour later, we started our long fourteen hour journey to
southern Texas where we would spend the night in a hotel before crossing the border the next
morning.
By this time, we were hours into the trip, laughing and joking together, then in an instant, every
single person in the van, including myself, were transfixed on the concrete barrier that was

Trailer Case Summary
Trailer 1 did a decent job with loading the livestock and transporting them, but that is about as far as
the credit goes. Loading cattle at night in cool temperatures helped to keep the cattle calm while
loading, and the load density was of an appropriate level. The non–slip flooring and bedding helped
the livestock move around the trailer and stay dry. The notes left do not describe the temperature in
Fargo, ND, so it is challenging to assess if the non–covered slats are an issue that could cause
concern. Cattle can handle cooler temperatures better than other animals, but covered slats would be
needed if transport occurred during a cold winter month as North Dakota experiences rather harsh
winters. Failure to add covered slats to the trailer on a long drive like this could lead to potential
frostbite on the animals hide. The driver arrived just prior to the afternoon shift change, so the
livestock waited 45 minutes to be unloaded from the trailer, which is not of concern. When the
livestock were being unloaded, 15 of the 40 animals fell, which is a serous welfare ... Show more

The fact that the workers, and the truck driver, used prods on all the animals is a serious welfare
issue. I am surprised that the driver was allowed to get out of his/her truck. Most packing plants
prohibit this, but no information was given that elicited to the company's policy on this issue. I
believe that this packing plant should fail their audit solely for the fact that the workers used electric
prods on each and every animal that exited the trailer. The workers mentioned that it was against the
packing plant's policy to use electric prods, but chose to use the prods anyway. This shows me that
the plant has either failed in properly training their employees on how to properly unload livestock,
or that the workers at the plant are negligent to the policies implemented and need to be dismissed

Interstate Highway System Research Paper
The Interstate Highway System has gotten better over the past years but it's the little things that can
be a big problem in the end. In the past, the highway system was worse than it is today. Back then
there weren't a big amount of highways; most of the roads were dirt roads and that was a HUGE
problem. Due to there not being many roads I'm sure that caused traffic to be a big problem. I'm sure
it wasn't safe to drive on those dirt roads if the weather was bad such as it being windy or it raining.
There needed to be a change made for EASIER, SAFER, and QUICKER highways.
First, making it easier for the people, say if someone wanted to travel out of state and they needed to
get to their destination at a certain time. Next, the road that

Anyone who has driven on a San Antonio road knows how unpredictable drivers can be. The
Impatients, and aggravation sometimes get the best of a driver. For a San Antonio police officer
accidents are nothing short of ordinary. There are however a small few that stand out above the
others. This hot Saturday in July was busier than usual. With months without rain, the roads were
extremely dry. The day was relatively busy, but there were no major incidents. That is until four
o'clock when calls started flowing in for a major accident. Officers thought it couldn't have been
anything too massive considering the light traffic and ideal road conditions. This accident however
was far from normal. This strange wreck was something you would only see in the movies. The
roads were unusually busy for a hot Saturday afternoon. Gina was helping her daughter move into
her new apartment, but was running late. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to get the bloodied driver out. Meanwhile other officers and firefighters were working on the car the
violently flipped off the overpass. Car was engulfed in flames. The inferno could almost burn people
by looking at it. Firefighters frantically pulled both occupants out of the car before they suffered
from any major burns. Firefighters began a severe battle with the fire. Hundreds of gallons of water
were blasted out of the fire hoses, making a misty show that left the roads flooded. Once the dust

A Critical Literature Review On Highway Asset Management
1.1 Context In this critical literature review I am going to investigate what guidance and information
is currently available on the use of recycled content asphalt and research some of the more
innovative methods that are being trialled and utilised. The current economic climate in the UK is
placing additional pressures on highway authorities to increase efficiency within their capital and
operational spends. It has been suggested that using high recycled content asphalt mixes can play a
large role in reducing the costs and environmental impacts of highway maintenance plans (Metcalfe,
2016). 1.2 Highway Asset Management With so many stakeholders depending on the roads network,
highway asset management plays a pivotal role in any major economy, as without a well maintained
and managed infrastructure network, people would not be able to travel easily for work and leisure,
products would not be delivered across the country and economic prosperity would suffer. As the
most valuable asset owned by the public sector it is crucial that it is managed in transparent and
accountable manner (DfT, 2013). The Highway Assest Management Infrastructure Guidance
docucment (DfT, 2013) offers the following interpretation of highway asset management: "A
systematic approach to meeting the strategic need for the management and maintenance of highway
infrastructure assets through long term planning and optimal allocation of resources in order to
manage risk and meet the performance

Governments Should Spend Money On Improving Public Transportation Many people in the world want their countries to be developed, and they want to have a good quality of life. Also, they want their countries to have strong potential economy to compete with other nations. As a result, it is necessary for the government to work on improving facilities which are the basic foundation of life. In my opinion, governments should spend more money on improving public transportation, such as buses, subways, and trains instead of working on the construction of new roads and highways for several reasons. The first reason is to encourage people to use public transportation. Right now, many people feel that using public transportation, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driving Prosability With the U.S. having the second largest passenger car market in the world, a total of 6,872,729 cars sold in 2016(OICA, 2017), it is no wonder that we rank 19th worst on the traffic index. The countries that rank the best on the index are all from europe(Numbeo,2017). So what is it that europe is getting correct about traffic? It boils down to 3 major items, roundabouts and sharedspaces, strict following to regulation and, public roads without speed limits. The implementation of all these solutions would have to start at a basic level, the driver. Obtaining a driver's licence in europe is a much more demanding task then in America. We already have speed limits, a requirement for the use of a turn signal, and by Florida law the far left lane should only be utilized for overtaking(Fl DOT, 2017). From their the enforcement would become strict and the speed limits of roads, that were determined to be safe, could increase or be unrestricted. As previously stated, typically, most europeans follow the law closely. The laws of the Autobahn are not as free as many Americans think. First of all, the Autobahn is every highway in Germany, and not all of them are unrestricted in regard to speed. The majority of the Autobahn follows a speed limit between 100 and 120 kilometer per hour (approximately 60–75 mile per hour)(BASt, 2015). One of the unique aspects of the unrestricted sections are advisory speed limits and temporary speed limits. Temporary speed limits are an ideal that many other countries should adopt. In essence when the posted speed limit does not apply to the current conditions of the road, the government can change it. An example of a temporary speed limit in use would be unfavorable weather conditions such as snow, ice or rain on the road. These reduce the allowed speed of drivers to keep them safe. Another example is during road work or construction the speed limit can be lowered to keep workers on the road safer. Sections of road with adjustable speed limits make sure that drivers do not exceed what is safe in bad condition but also doesn't hold people back in favorable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison Of John Updike's J And PAnd Eveline In "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, we are given a piece of art that simply will leave you clueless unless, you understand the pain and frustration the man is going through; when choosing what route he feels will give him the most joy. In the poem a man is walking through the woods and he comes upon a fork. He who wants to take both roads chooses the route that he feels is traveled less on. Little does he know that both road have been equally traveled on. He who travels on the route that has fresher leaves lies to himself, by convincing himself that he will come back and take the other route. Though it was a very stressful and a hard decision for the man to make, many people are put into very similar situations like in John Updike's A and P and as well as in James Joyce's Eveline. Both Sammy and Eveline find it troubling to make a decision that will change their life completely. In John Updike's J and P, Sammy a hard working young man takes an easy decision that not only makes him lose his job, but change his life forever. Sammy who's works as a cashier at a local grocery store. Is put in a situation where "three girls in nothing but bathing suits,"(Updike), walk in the store and aren't following the dress code. We woke with the sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes. Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that's what we began to do. But, as we sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn't stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road. We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. "We can keep going down here and get there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that'll be faster." We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision. I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I'd hit the web, panic and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We'd get back up, rinse and repeat for about another mile. Once we were back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interstate highways, urban streets and rural lanes all depend on asphalt for durable, smooth, economical pavements. Asphalt pavement is also the most popular choice for parking lots. Despite the fact that asphalt pavement is already environmentally friendly, the asphalt industry has worked tirelessly to make it even more environmentally green. The latest development in green paving is porous asphalt. What Is Porous Asphalt? Porous asphalt, which is sometimes called permeable asphalt, allows water to infiltrate beneath the pavement. After the water percolates through the pavement, it reaches a special drainage system that redirects the water back into the soil. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Increase Of Regulation For Winter Road Maintenance Increase in Regulation for Winter Road Maintenance Everyone has dealt with an experience where they are driving down a "cleaned" road, and all of a sudden, they hit an ice patch. The winter road crews have been over the roads, but nevertheless, the road is not safe. The lane will be clean. Then, a block later, it will be covered in ice. In the city of Nampa, this situation tends to be encountered more than necessary. When someone travels from Canyon County to Ada County, there is a clear distinction between the levels of care. Roads in Boise are usually better taken care of compared to the morning traffic in Nampa. The Treasure Valley needs to increase road maintenance in the winter creating more mandates for care and researching for a better understanding and process for salting and clean up. For Idaho, statistics show the negative repercussions and dangers of weather–related accidents. One study was completed by the United States Department of Transportation showing how weather relates to car accident statistics (U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration). In the United States yearly, about 22% of crashes and 16% of fatalities were based off weather related incidents such as slick roads and bad conditions (U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration). Over a ten year study, 33% of weather related accidents were based off of snow, sleet, and ice conditions (U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration). ... • 23. The Nature of Traffic Flow on Freeways INTRODUCTION A modified approach to explaining the nature of traffic flow on freeways is described in this research. It has its beginnings in the observations of actual traffic data, which are not easily and convincingly explained by the conventional traffic flow theories. Most conventional approaches to studying the relationships between traffic flow characteristics use loop detector data. The loop detectors are typically 6 by 6 ft inductive loops of electric wires. When a vehicle passes or stops over such a detector, loop inductance decreases and that induces a higher oscillation frequency, which then invokes a pulse indicating the presence of vehicle. The Inductive Loop Detectors (ILD)'s typically measure flow (the number of vehicles that pass it in some time period) and occupancy (the percentage of time for which the ILD is occupied in that time period). But the data provided by such ILDs are often fraught with errors. ILDs under–count or over–count under different freeway traffic conditions. Also the accuracy and consistency of detector data depend strongly on their installation and calibration procedures. A loop detector with percentage accuracy within 5% is considered a 'good' one. This research aims to present a simple queuing analysis of freeway traffic that does not rely on vehicle occupancy data or effective vehicle lengths. Discussion: Now I would like to analyse the research I have done to complete my industry project by answering the following research questions– Q1.What types of roads are required and how construct the road at pehiaweri marea? Solution– Sealed road– The road is a way to reach from one place to another. It limits the wider distances. Sealed road is a road which surface has been permanently sealed by use of one of several pavements treatment. Materials used for sealed road– soil, water, asphalt, concrete, tar and Bitumen. How to construct the road – firstly I will investigate and clear the site of road with grass Extracting. I will remove extra waste materials. I will inspect the soil because clay soil is soft so that strong soil is needed for construction of road. Construction of sealed road involves the following 6 basic steps. 1. Preparation of sub grade 2. Preparation of sub base 3. Preparation of base 4. Preparation of wearing course 5. Preparation of shoulders 6. Opening to traffic Sub grade act as cushion for other layers. It should be strong. The road will be 182 m in length and 7 m wide. It is compacted by rollers by spraying water one night before. Soil will be stabilized on place with this process. On the well compacted sub grade, spread broken stones or over burnt bricks in layers of thickness. The sub– base should be compacted by a roller to provide a plain surface. On the prepared sub base or directly on the sub grade, the specified materials of the base ... As a result of this movement up the social status, a lot of people have bought vehicles that have now filled our roads. With that regard, the number of road accidents has also been on an increasing trend with a lot being recorded on the many superhighways that exist today. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was more surprising with this regards was that a vehicle that was recorded by the cameras as not being in motion was also singled out to be speeding. The good thing is that these contractors have admitted that their cameras are usually prone to several factors that do affect them thus making them show erroneous speed limits. For instance, they have singled out the electromagnetic anomaly as one of the factors causing the errors. The bad thing is the manner with which they take to realize such happenings, and many do end up being sued for traffic irregularities. But, later when these companies manning the cameras have admitted the problem caused was beyond their reach, many people usually sue them. The court process is usually a hectic one that ends up most the time on the contractors side thus the plaintiff ends up wasting money. Irregularities with regards to ticketing have also been a challenge. The actual speed gotten as a result of the photo taken in time sequence have been incorrect thus, the motorists end up issued with tickets that are not showing the actual speed. And thus, the motorists who might be conscious of their actions usually end up wasting their money on accusations that are not real (Treiterer 17). The GPE depends on the energy stored in the height of an object, as an example if a heavy object was placed high up, a force is likely to be holding the object up there, the GPE also helps us work out aspects of other formulas. A force is a push or a pull, which is measured in Newtons (N), by working out the force we could find out how many newtons were pushing against the car. Loading cattle at night in cool temperatures helped to keep the cattle calm while loading, and the load density was of an appropriate level. The non–slip flooring and bedding helped the livestock move around the trailer and stay dry. The notes left do not describe the temperature in Fargo, ND, so it is challenging to assess if the non–covered slats are an issue that could cause concern. Cattle can handle cooler temperatures better than other animals, but covered slats would be needed if transport occurred during a cold winter month as North Dakota experiences rather harsh winters. Failure to add covered slats to the trailer on a long drive like this could lead to potential frostbite on the animals hide.
