Outsiders Book and Movie Comparison Essay
The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much
more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across.
There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more
interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the
movie was missing a lot. A few similarities between the movie and book are that the movie still has
the complete Greaser gang Pony, Johnny, Soda, Darry, Dally, Two
–Bit and Steve. They still have
some of the more sad part like when Johnny and Dally die. There is still lots of conflict between the
Greasers and the Soc's. There is still the situation where Johnny...show more content...
Ponyboy Curtis in the fourteen–year–old boy that explains the story in both the book and the movie,
and also the youngest of the greasers. Ponyboy is very intelligent compared to the rest of the
gang he is most defenatly the smartest to them all. Because his parents have died in a car
accident, Ponyboy lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop in both the book and movie.
Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense in the book more so then in the
movie, but Ponyboy is a much brighter then his brother takes him for. Throughout the novel,
Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love but in the movie they
dont focus on his school as much. He matures over the course of the book and the movie both.
Darrel Curtis Ponyboy's oldest brother. Darrel, known as "Darry," both in the book and in the
movie. He is a twenty–year–old greaser who is raising Ponyboy because their parents have died in a
car crash. Strong, athletic, and intelligent, Darry has quit school in the book and in the movie. He
works two jobs to hold the family together. One of the leader of the greasers, he becomes an parent
role model for Ponyboy. He also makes good chocolate cake, which he and his brothers eat every
day for breakfast in the book but the movie really does not mention it. The other greasers call him
"Superman." Sodapop Curtis Ponyboy's fun, intergetic, handsome brother. Sodapop

Books vs Movies
Books Vs. Movies
Why are audiences so upset with the way the movie turned out after reading the book? " Ask any
reader who has seen the movie version of a favorite book, and the answer will usually be, the book
was better." (Corliss, 2005, p. 1)They are frequently disappointed because the movie versions are not
sticking to their all–time favorite book. Growing up with books like Harry Potter, as readers or
having someone reading to us our minds wonder off to this mystical land, picturing how our heroes
and villains would look and act. As they take in the words, the reader can almost smell the trees and
here the wind blow through the castles. Reading a book compared to watching the movie brings up
controversy; with books readers use their...show more content...
After reading the book, must readers feel that they lived another life, unless it's a series, the reader
will feel completed. However, with the movie there are time constraints to think about and they
need to achieve the right rating for the movie. In the books the writers has more freedom with the
story line, when it comes to the movie they need to make sure it targets the right audience. The
Harry Potter movies always have been geared toward children and teens, so they cut things out to
achieve that goal. The Goblet of Fire was a 734– page book that would be a 10 hour movie. The
screen writer Steve Kloves said "it took him two years to figure out how to make the movie and
deciding what parts to cut out" (Corliss, 2005, pp. 3–3). They took the first hundred pages and put it
into a thrilling 20 minutes. They need to make the movie exciting by cutting out some of the
narrative and zipping through some of it. There are some movie critics that love the movies because
they cut out the boring narration of the books. Readers interact with the book and use their minds to
imagine the story while movie–audiences are more passively enjoying the movie. We see how and
why things change from reading books and how the movie may have a different concept. When
reading books, a person is creating their own movie in a sense. You know how the character speaks,
what they look like. Where the director is showing how he perceived the story and

Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie
This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named
Jonas who was chosen to be the community's next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community
where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he
realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas
wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two
were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could've made them two
separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's

His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a few
exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter eyes,"
(pg. 20 – Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of Memory,
which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a birthmark.
That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of Memory had them.
The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the Chief Elder's role. In
the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character, "The initial speech at the
Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the community who was elected
every ten years," (pg. 51 – Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder played an important role in the
Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters during Ceremonies and that was all.
The Giver movie's Chief Elder always watched Jonas closely. She started becoming suspicious of
Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas' mother and The Giver. She then found out about Jonas' plan to
escape. When she did, she ordered Asher to "lose him" (The Giver movie). That meant she wanted
Asher to kill Jonas. This essay was about the three main differences between the Giver book and the
Giver movie. The first main difference was talked about in the first body paragraph. That paragraph

To Kill A Mockingbird– Differences between Movie and Book There are usually differences in
two different versions of something. This can often be seen when a book is made into a movie.
There are many similarities and differences in the book and movie versions of To Kill A
Mockingbird by Harper Lee. To begin with, there are many similarities between the book and
movie To Kill A Mockingbird. For example, Tom Robinson died in an attempt to escape from
prison in both the book and the movie. In my opinion Tom's death was crucial to the original story,
and I believe the movie would have been seen as over–sentimental if the scriptwriters had let him
live. Another important similarity between the book and movie, is the mutual fascination...show more

In comparison with the many similarities in the book and movie versions of To Kill A
Mockingbird, there are also many differences. One huge difference that was almost impossible to
miss, was the absence of Aunt Alexandra. Atticus' sister, Alexandra, was the thorn in Scout's side
throughout the book. She always wanted Scout to act more like a lady. Towards the end, she
became more like a mother in soothing Scout and trying to reassure her that Jem was not dead. I
think Aunt Alexandra was a huge part of the story, and I think they should have kept her in the
movie. Be that as it may, the movie moved along quite well without her. I also found there to be
huge differences in the trial. For example, although Mayella Ewell, pretended to be very upset by
Atticus' questioning, she did not accuse him of mocking her. I thought that this was somewhat
significant because it was one of Mayella's tactics for trying to get pity from the jury. A more
minor difference, was the combination of Miss Maudie and Miss Rachel. The two neighbors of
the Finches were combined into one person for the movie. I do not think it mattered very much,
because they served the same purpose in the end. They were there as comfort to Atticus and the
children. A larger difference in the movie pertained to Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose did make a small
appearance in the movie, but her role was cut down quite a bit from what it was originally in the
book. Mrs. Dubose, a morphine addict,

What Is The Difference Between Books And Movies
Books vs. Movies
Books and movies are two of the most loved activities that people do in their free time, yet they are
two very different media types, although they still have a lot in common. The thesis of this essay is
to compare and contrast these two entertainment media types, especially in the aspects of
imagination and the time consumed.
Firstly, both reading a book and watching a movie takes the individual's imagination. Reading
allows the reader to visualize the condition, location, characters and their various personalities.
Each person who reads the book has a different idea of what these aspects look like because each
person visualizes things differently. Think of how each sees the color red differently; this is the
same with each's imagination. Furthermore, reading allows the reader to become more creative.
Movies, on the other hand, come from the imagination of one or only a handful of individuals.
Movies require creativity, yes, but considerably less than a book does, because it already provides
the visual stimulation that a reader creates in their minds. As reading encourages creativity in
readers of all ages, movies also encourage creativity, especially in children. It is evident to see that
both books and movies require imagination, only on different levels, and both induce creativity in the
spectators.
The second aspect to be discussed is the time these activities consume. Creating a story, and writing
it down for others to read, is a

The Book Thief Book Vs Movie Essay
In this section of The Book Thief a lot of the book is starting to build up. We already know most
of the main characters. We have gotten to know about each one, and we have enough information
to know their personalities, interests they have, and a clear image in our heads of what they may
be like in person. Not only are the characters being built up the main plot and strory line is being
built up also, we learn about the war going on and how Hitler is taking over. Also the section is
introducing a new character Max, and some foreshadowing Death does gives us hints that he will
have a important role I the book.
The novel Book Thief has a movie that goes along with it and since i have seen the movie and
started to read the book i have already noticed a few differences and changes made to the book
thief in the movie. for this section i am making my own changes to the movie by casting a movie

The main reason I had chosen her is because of her role in nar is she had played. She was such a
young girl but is so strong and mature for her age. I feel like she can play Leisels role and fits my
image of what Leisel is like. Jack Scanlon as Rudy Steiner because of the role he had played in the
boy in the striped pajamas. This movie is also about Jews and Germans and basically about what
was happening in the book thief but a different aspect of the war. I feel like Jack Scanlon could
perfectly fit Rudy Steiners looks and play the role well. Geoffrey Rush as Hans Hubermann. I had
chosen this because I saw him in the movie Pirates of the Carabien and he had seemed to have a
very loving and caring face that fits the role of Hams since Hans is explained that way so far in the
book their, and is how Leisel sees

Essay on Into the Wild: Book vs. Movie
Into the Wild: Book vs. Movie Into the Wild happens to be my favorite book, and also one of my
favorite movies. Most people like one or the other, but I think the two complement each other
because of the varied stances taken on the main character himself. In case you're not familiar, Into
the Wild is based on the true story of Chris McCandless who, after graduating with honors from
Emory University in 1990, gave his entire savings of twenty–four thousand dollars to charity and set
off following his dream of living off the land in the Alaskan wilderness. McCandless made it to
Alaska, but died shortly after taking residence in an abandoned bus; he probably passed from eating
the wrong deadly plant or possibly from starvation. The book was...show more content...
Although the book doesn't follow the chronological order of the exact events that took place
either, it does it in a different way than the movie. In contrast to the film, we learn about Chris
McCandless in the same order as the writer, John Krakauer, did himself. Krakauer starts the book
with a tone of hopelessness that is not shared in the movie. In the beginning, Krakauer, and
Chris's parents visit the bus where their son's dead body was discovered. The movie is all from
Chris's perspective, and the book is a pieced together look at Chris through the eyes of his family,
mainly his sister, friends he made along the way and pretty much any other outsider with an
opinion on Chris's life and death. The film and the book present McCandless in different, but
similar ways; some may say it's the difference between fact and fiction. Both are obviously
interpretations of Chris McCandless's life and death, but I find the book to be more factual.
Krakauer dug in deep, and got extensive interviews from the few people Chris considered to be
his friends. In fact, the majority of the first chapter in the book is based on the memory of Jim
Gallien, the man who dropped Chris off at the head of the Stampede Trail in Alaska. The movie,
on the other hand, starts with actor, Emile Hersh, who plays McCandless, reading Chris's own
words from personal journals. The book looks at Chris as more of a tragic psychological

The Great Gatsby : Movie vs. Book Essay
Essay for The Great Gatsby The plot and the setting of book and movie are very similar. There
was a lot of thins borrowed from the book, but there was a lot changed as well. The movie
followed the plot of book very closely and portrayed the setting of the book very well. A lot of the
dialogue was borrowed and spoken directly as it was in the book. The movie did an excellent job
portraying the 1920's and the parties that happened at Gatsby's house. "There was music from my
neighbor's house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like
months among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars" (39). The scenes of the parties at

Farrow's voice was high and squeaky and that took away from the character that Daisy was. "It
was the kind of voice that the ear follows up and down, as if each speech is an arrangement of
notes that will never be played again" (9). Daisy also appeared to have a crush on Nick. In the
movie, Daisy acted overly affectionate towards Nick. The book never gave the impression that
Daisy had a crush on Nick. In the movie, Daisy's daughter, Pammy, did not get a lot of emphasis
but the scene where Gatsby actually saw Daisy's daughter went very well. Robert Redford played
the part very well and his reactions were well acted. The rumors that were always circulating
about Gatsby were not as prominent in the movie as they were in the book. There were always
new rumors circulating, but the movie only mentioned a couple rumors about Gatsby's past.
There were a few characters that were missing from the movie. Owl Eyes, who provided comic
relief was not in the movie and there was no party car accident scene in the movie, either. The
movie tells nothing about Gatsby's past because all mention was left out. There was no mention
of Dan Cody, who gave Gatsby his start, in the movie. There is never any mention of Gatsby's real
name being James Gatz. The only mention of Gatz is at the end of the movie when Mr. Gatz
corrects Nick after he called him Mr. Gatsby. The scene in the book where Daisy hits Myrtle with
the car was completely left out of the

The Novel Of Red Dog: Books Vs. Movies
In September 2001, The Novel of Red Dog written by Louis de BerniГЁres was written to tell the
wonderful real story of Red Dog who travelled around the world to find his long lost master, John.
In February 2011, that Novel was turned into a film written by Daniel Taplitz, directed by Kriv
Stenders and produced by Nelson Woss and Julie Ryan. Many people believe that novels are
better than films as you can treasure you book but movies use the plot, characters and settings to
bring life to the pages. The literary term Plot is used to describe the events that make up a story or
the main part of the story. This is used to make a story more interesting and bring it to life. The
book is straight forward, starting at the very start, with Jack and Maureen

With the constant streaming of new movies and television shows available, moviegoers tend to
watch them for fun. They see an entertaining movie about conflict that sparks the sense of
adventure in them. But do they really grasp what the movie can teach the viewers? With today's
society, the themes are lost in the entertainment purposes. However, books have developed to do
what a movie does and so much more. In this way books give life to all people that read them.
When a person reads a book they are entranced in the plot line. They have to comprehend and

The movie based off of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke takes out many scenes that are important to the
book. They also change the entire ending so it throws off the original themes and meanings in the
book. This movie did a terrible job with connecting the two pieces together and left many people
upset with the ending. The book was a glorified version of the movie when compared. That is
how it should be. Inkheart was not the only book that changed when turned into a movie.
Tuesday's with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, is another example of a movie that changes what the
book intended. The movie did a great job of portraying the book though it did make some changes
that changed the focus of the movie. Instead of fully receiving the concept of "it is never too late,"
the lesson that anyone can have an impact on another person is shown. Though these are very
similar, they are not the same. The way it is portrayed tends to leave a stronger message with the
book then it does in the movie and that makes all the difference. This is the same for the Kite
Runner, by Khaled Hosseini.
In this movie, they take out many parts from the book. This does not necessarily change a lot of the
initial concepts but it has an effect. When something is taken out, like a suicide attempt, it takes the
intensity out of the movie that was received from the book. Though the movie teaches the lesson
that the book does, it does not have the strength it did as in the book. That connect people get from

This can show how book are the soupier to movies because without the book in the first place the
movie would have never made. Movies like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Speak, Twilight, The
Book Thief, How to Train Your Dragon, and many more. All of these movies started as renowned
books, that had won many awards. However when they are made into movies the audience loses
some of the key factors that played into making the book so famous. When reading the books, the
reader can get an idea of the feeling of characters. Readers know exactly what they are thinking,
how they are feeling and what they are planning to do next. In earlier Shakespearian plays director
attempted to keep this idea of know what the main character was feeling and thinking by adding in
a monologue. But this monologue was broken away from the rest of the play. Actors would break
character and speak directly to the audience of what they were thinking and wanted. This was later
seen as distracting to the audience though, and it was removed in later production, and is why we do
not see them in movies now. Books have a nicer flow to them and inside because readers will always
know what the character is thinking, feeling, and going to do. Something that audiences do not get
in the theaters, showing again that books have better understanding of quality.
Continuing on with better qualities of books, readers will get a better feeling of accomplishment

The age old question of whether the book is better than the movie. There is much more to it than
that when you consider how the effect of their means of production, textual forms, technologies,
affect the messages being portrayed. Marshall McLuhan famously said, "The medium is the
message." I don't believe that the media of production is indistinguishable to the message because
the content still exists as a separate entity to that of its form, however I agree to some extent with
McLuhan's proposed idea that the medium is of equal importance to the message being
communicated. The medium, or the way the audience receives a message, largely influences the
way the message is perceived, whether it is through a poem, a documentary, a pamphlet, or even an
oil painting. But how do the composers choose the form that their work will take? There are many
factors to be taken into consideration by composers when choosing a medium of...show more

Differences Between Harry Potter Book And Movie
Many people have watched the magical movies of Harry Potter, but, with the books being longer
than the movies, how much magic was lost in translation? To answer this question, I want to go
over what the bigger differences are between the films and movies. While the overall plot stayed
the same, there were plenty of changes made for the movie adaptation which I believe made the
books much better by comparison. One big change that is noticed instantly when watching the
movies is the removal of Peeves. In the books, Peeves the poltergeist is a mischievous spirit in that
roams the school and torments students and staff. Despite this, he is beloved by readers as he
appears in pretty much every book, seeing as he is connected to the wizarding...show more content...
This resulted in a lot of movie watchers feeling as though they forgot to watch a prequel. Granted,
although they may not have much of a backstory in the movies, and what backstory they do have is
more implied than actually stated, all members do appear in the movies and maintain the same
personalities that were shown in the book. In the movies they also hinted at how mischievous they
all were, by introducing the watchers to the Marauders map. So when watching the movies, you may
not know much about the Marauders and how they were and you may not hold the same fondness
for them, making many scenes slightly less emotional, but you know of them and you get to
understand their personality a bit despite the missing context. Everyone who both read the books and
saw the movies received the same impression of the character Hermione Granger, she was very
clever and made a great role model for the female fans, but unfortunately not everyone got to see
just how much of a righteous activist she really was. In the books, Hermione started a group
named S.P.E.W. which stood for, "Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare". This started when
Hermione witnessed the horrible way house elves were treated, specifically one house elf, who
unfortunately wasn't even introduced in the movies, named Winky. SPEW made an excellent side
story of sorts, but because it was more of a side story than part of the actual plot, there's no surprise
it was left out of the movies completely.

Reading Vs Watching The Movie
Which is better reading the book or watching the movie first? There are many debates whether
one should read the book or watch the movie. Reading and watching are similar in some ways.
Reading is thrilling because you don't know what's going to happen, and it's the same with
watching. Another similarity is, both can help us visualize characters and expand our
imagination. The only difference between the two is the educational part. But both have their
own benefits and drawbacks. Reading the book first is a proactive way to learn about details,
while watching is a entertaining way to learn. Talking about benefits, watching and reading are
basically the same when it comes to the reactions. When people are reading they'd want to have
the feeling of anticipation because they'd want to know what would happen. Books like Harry
Potter wants you to anticipate what the next chapters are going to be. Readers like to be focused
and entertained when reading. If a book kept on switching plots to flashbacks and present too
many times without warning and no context , then that would confuse readers. I mean no one
would want to read a book if there isn't any solid plot. Books that has the "OMG" sense will make
it an interesting book. Besides anticipation, there are other reactions readers give off when reading.
Other readers might feel the excitement and some might not because all books depends on the tone.
For example if the title of the book was "Death of my Other Half", readers

The Maltese Falcon: Book Vs. Movie Essay
The Maltese Falcon: Book Vs. Movie
Many time in our lives, we have seen the transformation of novels into movies. Some of them are
equal to the novel, few are superior, and most are inferior. Why is this? Why is it that a story that
was surely to be one of the best written stories ever, could turn out to be Hollywood flops? One
reason is that in many transformations, the main characters are changed, some the way they look,
others the way they act. On top of this, scenes are cut out and plot is even changed. In this essay, I
will discuss some of the changes made to the characters of the Maltese Falcon as they make their
transformation to the ?big screen.? The first character that we read or see is Sam Spade. In the...show

A technological disadvantage that the movie had was the absence color. In the novel, Miss
O?Shaughnessey?s hair is described as ?darkly red.? Her red hair helps to develop a devilish theme
that goes along very well with her intentions and her personality. This is also missed in the movie.
The character Joel Cairo is one of the most interesting in the book, and the movie as well. I
thought he was perfectly cast by the production crew and they did a very good job of including
the necessary details about him: the perfumed business card, the white handkerchief, and his
girlish voice. I thought the portrayal of Cairo in the movie was better than that of the book
largely due to the fact that he was a homosexual. We could hear his voice and see his movements
much better in the movie. When we hear a voice, if it is flagrant enough, we can almost
automatically tell if someone is a homosexual. The same goes for the movements that they make,
or how they react to being hit or punched. These things cannot be picked up in the book and I
think they are important to his character. I believe that the movie has a better portrayal of Joel
Cairo than the book does. Samuel Spades secretary, Effie Perine, is one of the most important
characters in the novel. Constantly she is taking care of Sam, making sure he knows what he is
doing. You could say that she is somewhat of a conscience for him. Sam trusts her very much. In
fact, she

As a film student, I believe that films can have a lot of effects on people. They are visually
entertaining and can be exciting for all ages, but books also have a lot of powers that will be talked
about here. There are many of the differences between books and movies. The main points to be
compared and contrasted are imagination, time consumption, the entertainment value, and the ideas
and media.
Films make you observe the situations happening in a story while books make you feel it. One will
never feel what the characters are feeling in a film. He/she will not be reading every single one of
their innermost thoughts, which includes all of the character's fears and doubts. When one
watches a film or reads a book, there is usually a character that is inhabited by each audience
member. In a book, the audience can inhabit the hero who kills the bad characters or the girl or
boy who battles cancer with all the pain and uncertainty that is included in the process. They can
also inhabit a demigod, angel, villain, hero, lover, or a hater. They have significant control over
themselves. There are no limitations nor restrictions, making anything possible and not out of reach.
When you read a book, nothing else will matter outside the world in the book because you get to
live as someone else and work your imagination on what that character does and how he/she behaves
and the reasons behind his actions. In other words, you become the actor
in that story. An example could be the time

you can every time you read a book, it's guaranteed. When reading,...show more content...
Reading is also better to help increase ones vocabulary and ones understanding of the world all
around them, whereas movies can damage your brain and weaken your eye sight. There are
books on almost any and every topic in the world. One day you can be reading about the Gods
battling against the Titans, the next you are reading about the French and Indian War and its
impact on others. Not only can you expand your imagination, but you can read about the history
of the world and learn about its effect on you and your life. Learn what it was like to live in the
1800's and how they do not have the same advantages that we are lucky enough to have, like
watching movies. Going to the movies is one of the main things us humans love to do when
hanging out with friends. Reading takes time, you need to have patience to sit down and read
through a book, which is a skill many people lack. That is why we have producers and other
script–writers who read the book for you, edit the book and form it into a script, add and subtract a
few things, then spend months filming a movie that will eventually come out the next year or so.
Then you can go to the theater and enjoy watching it with whomever you go with. Besides, you
can't just go read a book with a friend and expect to both equally love it. You guys may have totally
different intakes on it. But movies do leave out some major details that were mentioned in the book.
So they have to

Books Better Than Movies
Why Books Are Better Than Movies
Do you enjoy reading books? Have you ever wondered why some people prefer books over movies?
Books hold a certain level of awesomeness that movies just simply can't cover. I strongly believe
that books are better than movies for many reasons. Today I would like to share with you guys a
couple of things: the rumor that good book= good movie, what makes a book better, and what books
are better. When a movie comes out that is based on a good book you once read, you expect the
movie to be as good as the book, even though this is not always the case. According to The
Washington Post, directors sometimes will add another season to a show before the next book
comes out. This happened in 2016 with "Game of Thrones." George R.R. Martin, the author of
the series' book, said that he was still months away from publishing the next book. This meant
that HBO came out with a sixth season before corresponding material in the book came out. This
caused a conflict because the audience was confused on how the tv series and the new book
would correspond since the new tv series came out before the next book. Over the years, there has
been a lot of debate on whether books held more weight than movies. The Odyssey Online states
that ever since the first book was adapted into a movie (Sherlock Holmes), there has been much
debate on which was better–the movie, or the book. To most people, the book was better. There are
many reasons why books are better than movies,

The Freedom Writers is a book that is based on real events things that has happened in real life.
This story was written by a teacher and her name is mrs. gruelle and also by some of her students

book gives you more detail the movie just gives you the pictures and a little better understanding. In
the movie all it shows and telling about Mrs. Gruelle's story more and her personal life. Like...show

Books Vs Movies Essay

  • 1. Outsiders Book and Movie Comparison Essay The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across. There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the movie was missing a lot. A few similarities between the movie and book are that the movie still has the complete Greaser gang Pony, Johnny, Soda, Darry, Dally, Two –Bit and Steve. They still have some of the more sad part like when Johnny and Dally die. There is still lots of conflict between the Greasers and the Soc's. There is still the situation where Johnny...show more content... Ponyboy Curtis in the fourteen–year–old boy that explains the story in both the book and the movie, and also the youngest of the greasers. Ponyboy is very intelligent compared to the rest of the gang he is most defenatly the smartest to them all. Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop in both the book and movie. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense in the book more so then in the movie, but Ponyboy is a much brighter then his brother takes him for. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love but in the movie they dont focus on his school as much. He matures over the course of the book and the movie both. Darrel Curtis Ponyboy's oldest brother. Darrel, known as "Darry," both in the book and in the movie. He is a twenty–year–old greaser who is raising Ponyboy because their parents have died in a car crash. Strong, athletic, and intelligent, Darry has quit school in the book and in the movie. He works two jobs to hold the family together. One of the leader of the greasers, he becomes an parent role model for Ponyboy. He also makes good chocolate cake, which he and his brothers eat every day for breakfast in the book but the movie really does not mention it. The other greasers call him "Superman." Sodapop Curtis Ponyboy's fun, intergetic, handsome brother. Sodapop Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Books vs Movies Books Vs. Movies Why are audiences so upset with the way the movie turned out after reading the book? " Ask any reader who has seen the movie version of a favorite book, and the answer will usually be, the book was better." (Corliss, 2005, p. 1)They are frequently disappointed because the movie versions are not sticking to their all–time favorite book. Growing up with books like Harry Potter, as readers or having someone reading to us our minds wonder off to this mystical land, picturing how our heroes and villains would look and act. As they take in the words, the reader can almost smell the trees and here the wind blow through the castles. Reading a book compared to watching the movie brings up controversy; with books readers use their...show more content... After reading the book, must readers feel that they lived another life, unless it's a series, the reader will feel completed. However, with the movie there are time constraints to think about and they need to achieve the right rating for the movie. In the books the writers has more freedom with the story line, when it comes to the movie they need to make sure it targets the right audience. The Harry Potter movies always have been geared toward children and teens, so they cut things out to achieve that goal. The Goblet of Fire was a 734– page book that would be a 10 hour movie. The screen writer Steve Kloves said "it took him two years to figure out how to make the movie and deciding what parts to cut out" (Corliss, 2005, pp. 3–3). They took the first hundred pages and put it into a thrilling 20 minutes. They need to make the movie exciting by cutting out some of the narrative and zipping through some of it. There are some movie critics that love the movies because they cut out the boring narration of the books. Readers interact with the book and use their minds to imagine the story while movie–audiences are more passively enjoying the movie. We see how and why things change from reading books and how the movie may have a different concept. When reading books, a person is creating their own movie in a sense. You know how the character speaks, what they look like. Where the director is showing how he perceived the story and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community's next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could've made them two separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had and the Chief Elder's role. One...show more content... His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter eyes," (pg. 20 – Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of Memory, which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a birthmark. That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of Memory had them. The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the Chief Elder's role. In the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character, "The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the community who was elected every ten years," (pg. 51 – Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie's Chief Elder always watched Jonas closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas' mother and The Giver. She then found out about Jonas' plan to escape. When she did, she ordered Asher to "lose him" (The Giver movie). That meant she wanted Asher to kill Jonas. This essay was about the three main differences between the Giver book and the Giver movie. The first main difference was talked about in the first body paragraph. • 4. To Kill A Mockingbird– Differences between Movie and Book There are usually differences in two different versions of something. This can often be seen when a book is made into a movie. There are many similarities and differences in the book and movie versions of To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. To begin with, there are many similarities between the book and movie To Kill A Mockingbird. For example, Tom Robinson died in an attempt to escape from prison in both the book and the movie. In my opinion Tom's death was crucial to the original story, and I believe the movie would have been seen as over–sentimental if the scriptwriters had let him live. Another important similarity between the book and movie, is the mutual fascination...show more content... In comparison with the many similarities in the book and movie versions of To Kill A Mockingbird, there are also many differences. One huge difference that was almost impossible to miss, was the absence of Aunt Alexandra. Atticus' sister, Alexandra, was the thorn in Scout's side throughout the book. She always wanted Scout to act more like a lady. Towards the end, she became more like a mother in soothing Scout and trying to reassure her that Jem was not dead. I think Aunt Alexandra was a huge part of the story, and I think they should have kept her in the movie. Be that as it may, the movie moved along quite well without her. I also found there to be huge differences in the trial. For example, although Mayella Ewell, pretended to be very upset by Atticus' questioning, she did not accuse him of mocking her. I thought that this was somewhat significant because it was one of Mayella's tactics for trying to get pity from the jury. A more minor difference, was the combination of Miss Maudie and Miss Rachel. The two neighbors of the Finches were combined into one person for the movie. I do not think it mattered very much, because they served the same purpose in the end. They were there as comfort to Atticus and the children. A larger difference in the movie pertained to Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose did make a small appearance in the movie, but her role was cut down quite a bit from what it was originally in the book. Mrs. Dubose, a morphine addict, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Is The Difference Between Books And Movies Books vs. Movies Books and movies are two of the most loved activities that people do in their free time, yet they are two very different media types, although they still have a lot in common. The thesis of this essay is to compare and contrast these two entertainment media types, especially in the aspects of imagination and the time consumed. Firstly, both reading a book and watching a movie takes the individual's imagination. Reading allows the reader to visualize the condition, location, characters and their various personalities. Each person who reads the book has a different idea of what these aspects look like because each person visualizes things differently. Think of how each sees the color red differently; this is the same with each's imagination. Furthermore, reading allows the reader to become more creative. Movies, on the other hand, come from the imagination of one or only a handful of individuals. Movies require creativity, yes, but considerably less than a book does, because it already provides the visual stimulation that a reader creates in their minds. As reading encourages creativity in readers of all ages, movies also encourage creativity, especially in children. It is evident to see that both books and movies require imagination, only on different levels, and both induce creativity in the spectators. The second aspect to be discussed is the time these activities consume. Creating a story, and writing it down for others to read, is a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We have gotten to know about each one, and we have enough information to know their personalities, interests they have, and a clear image in our heads of what they may be like in person. Not only are the characters being built up the main plot and strory line is being built up also, we learn about the war going on and how Hitler is taking over. Most people like one or the other, but I think the two complement each other because of the varied stances taken on the main character himself. In case you're not familiar, Into the Wild is based on the true story of Chris McCandless who, after graduating with honors from Emory University in 1990, gave his entire savings of twenty–four thousand dollars to charity and set off following his dream of living off the land in the Alaskan wilderness. McCandless made it to Alaska, but died shortly after taking residence in an abandoned bus; he probably passed from eating the wrong deadly plant or possibly from starvation. The book was...show more content... Although the book doesn't follow the chronological order of the exact events that took place either, it does it in a different way than the movie. In contrast to the film, we learn about Chris McCandless in the same order as the writer, John Krakauer, did himself. Krakauer starts the book with a tone of hopelessness that is not shared in the movie. In the beginning, Krakauer, and Chris's parents visit the bus where their son's dead body was discovered. The movie is all from Chris's perspective, and the book is a pieced together look at Chris through the eyes of his family, mainly his sister, friends he made along the way and pretty much any other outsider with an opinion on Chris's life and death. The film and the book present McCandless in different, but similar ways; some may say it's the difference between fact and fiction. Both are obviously interpretations of Chris McCandless's life and death, but I find the book to be more factual. Krakauer dug in deep, and got extensive interviews from the few people Chris considered to be his friends. In fact, the majority of the first chapter in the book is based on the memory of Jim Gallien, the man who dropped Chris off at the head of the Stampede Trail in Alaska. The movie, on the other hand, starts with actor, Emile Hersh, who plays McCandless, reading Chris's own words from personal journals. There was a lot of thins borrowed from the book, but there was a lot changed as well. The movie followed the plot of book very closely and portrayed the setting of the book very well. A lot of the dialogue was borrowed and spoken directly as it was in the book. The movie did an excellent job portraying the 1920's and the parties that happened at Gatsby's house. "There was music from my neighbor's house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like months among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars" (39). In the movie, Daisy acted overly affectionate towards Nick. The book never gave the impression that Daisy had a crush on Nick. In the movie, Daisy's daughter, Pammy, did not get a lot of emphasis but the scene where Gatsby actually saw Daisy's daughter went very well. Robert Redford played the part very well and his reactions were well acted. The rumors that were always circulating about Gatsby were not as prominent in the movie as they were in the book. There were always new rumors circulating, but the movie only mentioned a couple rumors about Gatsby's past. There were a few characters that were missing from the movie. Owl Eyes, who provided comic relief was not in the movie and there was no party car accident scene in the movie, either. The movie tells nothing about Gatsby's past because all mention was left out. There was no mention of Dan Cody, who gave Gatsby his start, in the movie. There is never any mention of Gatsby's real name being James Gatz. The only mention of Gatz is at the end of the movie when Mr. Gatz corrects Nick after he called him Mr. Gatsby. The scene in the book where Daisy hits Myrtle with the car was completely left out of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Novel Of Red Dog: Books Vs. Movies In September 2001, The Novel of Red Dog written by Louis de BerniГЁres was written to tell the wonderful real story of Red Dog who travelled around the world to find his long lost master, John. In February 2011, that Novel was turned into a film written by Daniel Taplitz, directed by Kriv Stenders and produced by Nelson Woss and Julie Ryan. Many people believe that novels are better than films as you can treasure you book but movies use the plot, characters and settings to bring life to the pages. The literary term Plot is used to describe the events that make up a story or the main part of the story. This is used to make a story more interesting and bring it to life. The book is straight forward, starting at the very start, with Jack and Maureen Get more content on HelpWriting.net

They see an entertaining movie about conflict that sparks the sense of adventure in them. But do they really grasp what the movie can teach the viewers? With today's society, the themes are lost in the entertainment purposes. However, books have developed to do what a movie does and so much more. In this way books give life to all people that read them. When a person reads a book they are entranced in the plot line. They have to comprehend and understand in order to finish the book and have it make sense. Movies can just be idly watched without gaining attention or intellect. Due to this, movies do not leave an impression....show more content... The movie based off of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke takes out many scenes that are important to the book. They also change the entire ending so it throws off the original themes and meanings in the book. This movie did a terrible job with connecting the two pieces together and left many people upset with the ending. The book was a glorified version of the movie when compared. That is how it should be. Inkheart was not the only book that changed when turned into a movie. Tuesday's with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, is another example of a movie that changes what the book intended. The movie did a great job of portraying the book though it did make some changes that changed the focus of the movie. Instead of fully receiving the concept of "it is never too late," the lesson that anyone can have an impact on another person is shown. Though these are very similar, they are not the same. The way it is portrayed tends to leave a stronger message with the book then it does in the movie and that makes all the difference. This is the same for the Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini. In this movie, they take out many parts from the book. This does not necessarily change a lot of the initial concepts but it has an effect. When something is taken out, like a suicide attempt, it takes the intensity out of the movie that was received from the book. Though the movie teaches the lesson that the book does, it does not have the strength it did as in the book. That connect people get from reading Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This can show how book are the soupier to movies because without the book in the first place the movie would have never made. Movies like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Speak, Twilight, The Book Thief, How to Train Your Dragon, and many more. All of these movies started as renowned books, that had won many awards. However when they are made into movies the audience loses some of the key factors that played into making the book so famous. When reading the books, the reader can get an idea of the feeling of characters. Readers know exactly what they are thinking, how they are feeling and what they are planning to do next. In earlier Shakespearian plays director attempted to keep this idea of know what the main character was feeling and thinking by adding in a monologue. But this monologue was broken away from the rest of the play. Actors would break character and speak directly to the audience of what they were thinking and wanted. This was later seen as distracting to the audience though, and it was removed in later production, and is why we do not see them in movies now. Books have a nicer flow to them and inside because readers will always know what the character is thinking, feeling, and going to do. Something that audiences do not get in the theaters, showing again that books have better understanding of quality. Continuing on with better qualities of books, readers will get a better feeling of accomplishment when they finish Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Book Vs Movie The age old question of whether the book is better than the movie. There is much more to it than that when you consider how the effect of their means of production, textual forms, technologies, affect the messages being portrayed. Marshall McLuhan famously said, "The medium is the message." I don't believe that the media of production is indistinguishable to the message because the content still exists as a separate entity to that of its form, however I agree to some extent with McLuhan's proposed idea that the medium is of equal importance to the message being communicated. The medium, or the way the audience receives a message, largely influences the way the message is perceived, whether it is through a poem, a documentary, a pamphlet, or even an oil painting. But how do the composers choose the form that their work will take? There are many factors to be taken into consideration by composers when choosing a medium of...show more content... On the middle of the poster were pictured the members of the Democratic Party and a guide to voting for them. The visual and print components work in conjunction with each other to persuade the reader to vote for LBJ, and the information is structured in such a way that it benefits from the nature of the medium. Although there is no defined linear structure to the poster like in a print text, the structure of this poster relates the information together clearly, with a pointing hand and similar colour used to direct attention. • 14. Differences Between Harry Potter Book And Movie Many people have watched the magical movies of Harry Potter, but, with the books being longer than the movies, how much magic was lost in translation? To answer this question, I want to go over what the bigger differences are between the films and movies. While the overall plot stayed the same, there were plenty of changes made for the movie adaptation which I believe made the books much better by comparison. One big change that is noticed instantly when watching the movies is the removal of Peeves. In the books, Peeves the poltergeist is a mischievous spirit in that roams the school and torments students and staff. Despite this, he is beloved by readers as he appears in pretty much every book, seeing as he is connected to the wizarding...show more content... This resulted in a lot of movie watchers feeling as though they forgot to watch a prequel. Granted, although they may not have much of a backstory in the movies, and what backstory they do have is more implied than actually stated, all members do appear in the movies and maintain the same personalities that were shown in the book. In the movies they also hinted at how mischievous they all were, by introducing the watchers to the Marauders map. So when watching the movies, you may not know much about the Marauders and how they were and you may not hold the same fondness for them, making many scenes slightly less emotional, but you know of them and you get to understand their personality a bit despite the missing context. Everyone who both read the books and saw the movies received the same impression of the character Hermione Granger, she was very clever and made a great role model for the female fans, but unfortunately not everyone got to see just how much of a righteous activist she really was. In the books, Hermione started a group named S.P.E.W. which stood for, "Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare". This started when Hermione witnessed the horrible way house elves were treated, specifically one house elf, who unfortunately wasn't even introduced in the movies, named Winky. SPEW made an excellent side story of sorts, but because it was more of a side story than part of the actual plot, there's no surprise it was left out of the movies completely. • 15. Reading Vs Watching The Movie Which is better reading the book or watching the movie first? There are many debates whether one should read the book or watch the movie. Reading and watching are similar in some ways. Reading is thrilling because you don't know what's going to happen, and it's the same with watching. Another similarity is, both can help us visualize characters and expand our imagination. The only difference between the two is the educational part. But both have their own benefits and drawbacks. Reading the book first is a proactive way to learn about details, while watching is a entertaining way to learn. Talking about benefits, watching and reading are basically the same when it comes to the reactions. When people are reading they'd want to have the feeling of anticipation because they'd want to know what would happen. Books like Harry Potter wants you to anticipate what the next chapters are going to be. Readers like to be focused and entertained when reading. If a book kept on switching plots to flashbacks and present too many times without warning and no context , then that would confuse readers. I mean no one would want to read a book if there isn't any solid plot. Books that has the "OMG" sense will make it an interesting book. Besides anticipation, there are other reactions readers give off when reading. Other readers might feel the excitement and some might not because all books depends on the tone. For example if the title of the book was "Death of my Other Half", readers Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Maltese Falcon: Book Vs. Movie Essay The Maltese Falcon: Book Vs. Movie Many time in our lives, we have seen the transformation of novels into movies. Some of them are equal to the novel, few are superior, and most are inferior. Why is this? Why is it that a story that was surely to be one of the best written stories ever, could turn out to be Hollywood flops? One reason is that in many transformations, the main characters are changed, some the way they look, others the way they act. On top of this, scenes are cut out and plot is even changed. In this essay, I will discuss some of the changes made to the characters of the Maltese Falcon as they make their transformation to the ?big screen.? The first character that we read or see is Sam Spade. In the...show more content... A technological disadvantage that the movie had was the absence color. In the novel, Miss O?Shaughnessey?s hair is described as ?darkly red.? Her red hair helps to develop a devilish theme that goes along very well with her intentions and her personality. This is also missed in the movie. The character Joel Cairo is one of the most interesting in the book, and the movie as well. I thought he was perfectly cast by the production crew and they did a very good job of including the necessary details about him: the perfumed business card, the white handkerchief, and his girlish voice. I thought the portrayal of Cairo in the movie was better than that of the book largely due to the fact that he was a homosexual. We could hear his voice and see his movements much better in the movie. When we hear a voice, if it is flagrant enough, we can almost automatically tell if someone is a homosexual. The same goes for the movements that they make, or how they react to being hit or punched. These things cannot be picked up in the book and I think they are important to his character. I believe that the movie has a better portrayal of Joel Cairo than the book does. Samuel Spades secretary, Effie Perine, is one of the most important characters in the novel. Constantly she is taking care of Sam, making sure he knows what he is doing. You could say that she is somewhat of a conscience for him. Sam trusts her very much. In fact, she Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. As a film student, I believe that films can have a lot of effects on people. They are visually entertaining and can be exciting for all ages, but books also have a lot of powers that will be talked about here. There are many of the differences between books and movies. The main points to be compared and contrasted are imagination, time consumption, the entertainment value, and the ideas and media. Films make you observe the situations happening in a story while books make you feel it. One will never feel what the characters are feeling in a film. He/she will not be reading every single one of their innermost thoughts, which includes all of the character's fears and doubts. When one watches a film or reads a book, there is usually a character that is inhabited by each audience member. In a book, the audience can inhabit the hero who kills the bad characters or the girl or boy who battles cancer with all the pain and uncertainty that is included in the process. They can also inhabit a demigod, angel, villain, hero, lover, or a hater. They have significant control over themselves. There are no limitations nor restrictions, making anything possible and not out of reach. When you read a book, nothing else will matter outside the world in the book because you get to live as someone else and work your imagination on what that character does and how he/she behaves and the reasons behind his actions. In other words, you become the actor in that story. An example could be the time Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Reading takes time, you need to have patience to sit down and read through a book, which is a skill many people lack. That is why we have producers and other script–writers who read the book for you, edit the book and form it into a script, add and subtract a few things, then spend months filming a movie that will eventually come out the next year or so. Then you can go to the theater and enjoy watching it with whomever you go with. Besides, you can't just go read a book with a friend and expect to both equally love it. • 19. Books Better Than Movies Why Books Are Better Than Movies Do you enjoy reading books? Have you ever wondered why some people prefer books over movies? Books hold a certain level of awesomeness that movies just simply can't cover. I strongly believe that books are better than movies for many reasons. Today I would like to share with you guys a couple of things: the rumor that good book= good movie, what makes a book better, and what books are better. When a movie comes out that is based on a good book you once read, you expect the movie to be as good as the book, even though this is not always the case. According to The Washington Post, directors sometimes will add another season to a show before the next book comes out. This happened in 2016 with "Game of Thrones." George R.R. Martin, the author of the series' book, said that he was still months away from publishing the next book. This meant that HBO came out with a sixth season before corresponding material in the book came out. This caused a conflict because the audience was confused on how the tv series and the new book would correspond since the new tv series came out before the next book. Over the years, there has been a lot of debate on whether books held more weight than movies. The Odyssey Online states that ever since the first book was adapted into a movie (Sherlock Holmes), there has been much debate on which was better–the movie, or the book. To most people, the book was better. There are many reasons why books are better than movies, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
