3. Say
“I wanted to get a degree to
prove to myself I could do it.”
About school: “I loved flexible
hours with night classes.”
“I was so afraid to finish
school, it is what I had known
for most of my life.”
“I thought I knew how to job
search. When it actually came
time, I quickly learned I had
no idea.”
“I was too afraid to go to the
career services and job fairs. I
didn’t know what I would
say.”
“I would say about only 20%
of the students used the
c a r e e r t o o l s a t t h e
University.”
“To figure out how to job
search, I talked to peers and
other recent grads.”
“I think in every major at
every university in the last or
second to last semester there
should be a required career
class. I was too scared to go
into the career center on my
own.”
“If I knew what getting
a job was like, I would
have done school
differently.”
“A lot of students think they
can do it on their own.”
“I still think I am searching for
‘What I want to be when I
grow up’”
“What is an alumni network?”
4. Think I thought I was more
equipped, but when I got
into the “real world” it
was much harder.
Students need to be required to
do career counseling before
they graduate.
I was really scared for
the transition, and didn’t
know where to go.
I still don’t know what I want to
do, but this job is ok for now
and makes me one step closer.
I totally would have
done school differently
if I had a rewind button.
I wish I hadn’t have been such a
know-it-all when it came to the
career search.
6. Problem Statement
A bubbly, hardworking, eager, team playing, positive and capable
recent college graduate needs a more effective way to
transition from College to the workforce because during the
process she felt overwhelmed and fearful and after graduating
she felt lost and was without a job for 3 months.
