4. NEURO REHABILITATION
• Neurological rehabilitation therapy is divided into 3
coordinated phases.
• Patients go through more than one of these three
phrases:
• Intermediate care (IMC)
• Acute rehabilitation
• Occupational rehabilitation

5. OCCUPATIONAL REHABILITATION
• To return to work is the next challenge once people with
brain injuries cope with their everyday activities.
• The occupational rehabilitation team provides support to
help with this.
• Occupational training programs are designed to improve
patients’ physical condition and stamina.
• Training in the specific professional skills required in the
patients’ workplace is often essential.

6. OCCUPATIONAL REHABILITATION
• Specially organized workshops are arranged for this
purpose.
• At the end of the treatment program, patients are
provided with a specific plan for occupational
reintegration.
• Continued outpatient care is also provided to ensure
that the patients’ reintegration is successful.

7. INTERMEDIATE CARE (IMC)
• The effects of acquired brain damage are usually
severe in the early stages.
• The problems faced by patients undergoing this phase
of rehabilitation are
• impaired consciousness with a limited ability to
communicate
• dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
• immobility (paralysis)
• During this phase, the focus of neuro rehabilitation is
on maintaining and improving the basic bodily
functions.

8. INTERMEDIATE CARE (IMC)
• This primarily involves
• Stabilizing the circulation,
• making sure the patient can breathe and ingest
food,
• preventing spasticity (muscle stiffness) and self
injury
• counteracting the distressing effects of restlessness
and anxiety.

9. ACUTE REHABILITATION
• Therapy during the acute rehabilitation phase focuses on
enabling patients to regain their independence in daily life.
• The first steps towards subsequent occupational
reintegration are also initiated during this phase.
• In this stage, patients become increasingly aware of the
impact of their injuries on their health
• It is extremely important for the treatment team to show
compassion and good motivational skills.
