Overview
Big Data –the great volume,velocity and variety of available data that can be obtained
today– is the current buzzword in business,promising the discovery of new value and
opportunities and the optimization of processes.However,the proper implementation
of Big Data efforts remains a huge challenge: the high degree of management and
decision-making skills needed to sort through complex data and the scarcity of Big
Data and business analytics professionals are only some of the hurdles businesses
face on their way to using Big Data to their utmost advantage.
BigDataforBusinessseeks tohelpparticipantsdig throughandextract theessentialsof
Big Data and mentor them in its effective and optimal use as a tool to facilitate growth
in theirrespectiveorganizations.While theprogramcontainsinteractivelectures,group
exercises are also to be held on each day of the course to ensure that participants
already start their Big Data implementation plans and in addition present and test
these plans before a panel of experts.
Program objectives
The course aims to:
1) Aidcourseattendeesunderstandwhat Big Data isand howit can benefit theirorga-
nizations,jumping into many examples derived from the most active markets today
2) Provide enough business, regulatory and technological background as to
a. Facilitate the launching of Big Data initiatives within their current organizations
or launching new Big Data or analytics-based ventures.
b. Encourage them to deepen in specific aspects of the business,technology or its
applications to their industry
c. Expand their managerial skill toolbox with the development of analytical ca-
pabilities
This is not a technical course but a business course on Big Data and analytics.Howe-
ver, the course will cover some technology issues,as technology is a key driver in the
Big Data and analytics business and as an understanding of the basic concepts and
trends is needed. In the same vein, this approach is conceived and taught so that
any interested person,irrespective of his/her former academic training,could easily
follow the sessions and actively participate.

The program is designed for:
• Top level executives not familiar with Big Data or analytics: The program will help them understand the
strategic importance of developing analytical and Big Data capabilities.
• Mid-level managers across all business lines who want to expand their views,develop managerial analytical

Content
The program adopts an industry wide perspective, i.e. tries to provide an overview of Big Data and analytics
in many industries across multiple business lines. It will not only provide a description of Big Data initiatives
in a certain industry, but also how can it be implemented from Marketing to Human Resources.
The program combines both theoretical instruction with case studies and practical group exercises aimed to
facilitate networking and provide attendees with the opportunity to work on their own Big Data initiatives
during the course.

Ignacio is an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and Big Data at IE Business School. He is an
Analytics Consultant and is also currently theVice President of Credit Agricole CIB.He is moreover the
FounderofLlVentures,andpreviouslyworkedatPricewaterhouseCoopersasITConsultant.Hestudied
Telecommunications Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and holds an MBA degree
from IESE Business School.

Enrique Dans has been a Professor of Information Systems at IE since 1990.He holds an MBA from IE

Josehasworkedasafull-timeIEprofessorofInformationSystemssince2004,focusingonareassuchas
knowledgemanagement,theimplementationofenterprisesystems,andenterpriseriskmanagement.
Josealsohasawealthofexperienceinthecorporateworldasananalystandconsultantforcompanies
suchasCiba-GeigyandSonaeGroup.Moreover,heischairofeGovernmentSoftwareAG-AlianzaSumaq,
which analyzes eGovernment initiatives in Spain and Latin America.
Aurelie Pols
Aurélie pioneered Digital analytics in Europe.This allowed her to co-found OX2 in Belgium,and Mind
YourGroupinSpain.Shenowworksasanindependentconsultant,definingdataflowsandsupporting
companies in their risk exercises to determine potential data liabilities. She speaks at events such as
