OBJECTIVES:-
 Mobile phone and Social Networking sites are useful in Education.
 Mobile phone and Social Networking sites are make students learning easy.
 Mobile phone and Social Networking sites are help them to learn quick and fast.
 Mobile phone and Social Networking sites are also responsible for distraction in learning.
TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION:-
Earlier technology in Education becomes available in the form of printing material and textbooks. It
was soon supplemented by the use of teaching aids like blackboard, pictures, maps etc. In this way the
earlier concept of educational technology was limited to the use of simple visual aids meant for direct
teaching. Later on industrial development and technical advancement brought the use of sophisticated
hardware and software like radio use as a audio aids, TV use a combination of audio and video aids etc
in the field of education. This technology modernizes and make the classroom teaching easy , clear,
interesting , systematic etc.
The use of advance technology in educational setting has increased significantly during the last
decade. Initially the use of computer based training and later on network based learning mainly due to
the development of world wide web lead to the definition of the concept of E-learning and M-learning.
MOBILE PHONE:-
The latest development in the field of technology the invention of mobile or we can say smartphone.
It’s a long range portable electronic device used for communication. In additional to the standard voice
function and also support additional services like SMS, e-mail, access to internet, mms, photos ,
videos, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, games, recording etc.
Mobile learning or M-learning is defined as "learning across multiple contexts, through social and
content interactions, using personal electronic devices. A form of e-learning distance education, m-
learners can use mobile device educational technology in many locations at their time convenience.
M-learning technologies include notebooks, mobile phones and tablets. M-learning is convenient in
that it is accessible from virtually anywhere. It help the students to use dictionary, maps, read softcopy
on mobiles, watch videos of any lesson plan , hear radio telecast related to their content, easily share
any files in few second etc.

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES(SNS):-
Social networking sites are those sites through which users interact with each other’s with the use of
internet. And have connections with their classmates, teachers, parents etc. It help the learner to see
online lessons plan on any content , video conferencing with expert and their teachers, share their view
or any information with others etc. reasons are there to being member on social networking sites.
Students can easily interact with their teacher and solved their query frequently, instead of waiting for
next day. Even learner can create reminder of any important event and even invite their friend in few
minutes. Its time saving way as compare to call everyone or send SMS and spend money. Students use
Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Skype, YouTube etc. for clear any doubt or barrier in their learning.
PROS OF M-LEARNING AND SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES(SNS) IN EDUCATION
ARE:-
 Use Cell Phones and social networking sites as Reminders: Students tend to use diaries to
note down important dates and assignments, however, this diary can get lost at any time, if not,
a student can easily forget what they wrote in a diary. Cell phones and SNS can be used as
reminders. So its help the students to remember the deadline of any assignment, examination
form etc. and even do their work on time.
 Use Cell Phones and SNS for Project Purposes: Most of school have computer labs where
student go to make research online, however, it can be inconveniencing for students, because in
most cases the computers in the lab are never enough. It can also be expensive to provide a
computer to each and every student at school, so the best option is to use cell phones and visit
SNS for any research or project purpose. All smart phones can access internet, so teachers can
group students and assign them project work, if students work as a group, they will be update
about work and cooperation and leadership qualities develop in them.
 Use cell phones and SNS to share educational material: Students can easily use it to take
pictures or videos related to learning at school. For example, Geography students can take
pictures or record videos while in the field carrying out a geography research, let’s say, they go

to study features of a volcanic mountain, a student can take pictures of various features and
activities on that volcanic mountain, and then they can share those pictures or mini clips with
their fellow students at school in real time.
 Use cell phones and SNS for audio & video lessons: Teachers can record instructions in
video format or audio format, and then upload these recordings to a classroom group
/school website/ SNS. Students with smart phones can easily access that group or even easily
visit SNS via the internet and download these recordings which they can play at any time of the
day. This practice can save teachers time and it also promotes mobile and SNS learning.
Students can feel comfortable if they learn via their cell phones, because they can be in
position to play back the audio or video until they understand the concept being explained by
their educator.
 Use cell phones and SNS as Gamification tools at School: Teacher use games for teaching
any particular concept understanding and make teaching effective. For example, you can tell
your students to download and install ”Seek ‘n Spell” mobile application; this App can
challenge your student’s mind and brains which will keep them attentive both in the classroom
and outside of the classroom.
 Use Stop Watches on Cell Phones in a science classroom: During a science experiment,
students will need to use stop watches in the laboratory, most chemicals or experiments will
react at a given time, so it is better for each student or group to have a stop watch. So if you’re
a science teacher and your school has very few stop watches for your science classroom, then
opt for stop watches on student’s cell phones.
 Use Cell Phones SNS for Video Conferencing : Teacher can use a cell phone which has
video conferencing application like SKYPE to consult another teacher or educator on a specific
subject, and all students can learn from this video conference call. During this video call,
students can have a chance to ask question to that expert or educator and this will help them
learn more about a specific subject. Also students can create virtual discussion groups using
Skype; this can help them share educational ideas while using their cell phones.
 Use Cell Phones to learn new languages: Your students can easily learn new languages using
advance mobile language applications like BABBEL. It is very easy to use Babble, a student
will simply paste the content they want to translate, and then select a language they’re
interested in, and Babble will translate that text to a student’s favorite language. Both teachers
and students can use Babble use to learn any language, some of the languages you can learn on
Babbel include; English, German, French and much more. Babbel mobile App comes with an
integrated speech recognition tool which a student can use to test their pronunciation.
 Use Cell Phones as Calculators: It does not matter if your cell phone is expensive or not,
every cell phone has a calculator with basic features. Students can use a calculator in math and
physics classroom. Cell phone calculators can be used to solve simple equations in the
classroom.
 Use cell phones to scan text books: All smart phones come have cameras, so students can use
those cameras to take picture of content from a particular book instead of buying and spending
amount for photo state. Through the help of SNS user can download softcopy of any book.
 Use cell phones as dictionaries at School: Students or teachers can use cell phones to text
Google definitions system using their cell phones. Many times we don’t go with our
dictionaries in the classroom, but a cell phone is always with us. If you have no internet access
in your classroom or cell phone, then you can you can able to understand the meaning of that
term.
 Create SMS based Chat Rooms and different groups on SNS for students: Services that
allow us to create a group and communicate with your fellow students using SMS messaging
5
or any application and on SNS students can also having chat option in a group. Encourage your
students to create virtual discussion groups and exchange educational information in real time,
this move can also help shy students to interact with other students, students can even share
photos or share locations with friends.
 Use Cell Phones n SNS to Preserve Lectures: Through Smart phones teacher can shoot and
record a lesson, then share this lessons with students who missed attending class on that day.
These videos can be shared across video hosting platforms like Youtube.com, so students can
easily access these lessons from anywhere. As a teacher, can create a classroom YouTube
channel and upload all lectures. It is a good idea if you create a YouTube classroom channel,
because your students will always go to that channel for further studies.
CONS OF MOBILE AND SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES :-
 Distracting to class, hard to concentrate: Unless teachers properly supervise their students
and maintain control. If teacher do not supervised them than there would be chance of having
misuse of it
 Inappropriate content sharing or exposure.: It is important for children to be protected
from inappropriate content; but it is also necessary for teachers to monitor what they are
sharing between themselves. It is not only a matter of duty to students but protecting them as
its teacher responsibility
 Controlling device use in class: Teachers have to grow eyes in the back of their heads and
when mobile devices are used in class, the need for continual monitoring and regulation
increases.
 Students use it for texting or entertaining: Some students may be kept themselves busy in
sending message or use mobile/SNS only for their entertainment. So teacher has to monitor
them and be alert.
 Some students it to cheat: some students use cell phone during any test and score better marks
as compare to deserving students.
 Taking funny photos of other people: Few students taking funny picture and upload those
picture or share those picture among themselves. Distract their mind during learning process.
 A tool of bullying: Use of social networks and mobiles can expose individuals to harassment
or inappropriate contact from others. Unless parents and teacher are diligent to filter the
Internet content to which their children could be exposed to pornography or other inappropriate
content.
 Time Waster: In order to get social network’s and mobile, we need to understand how it
works, when and how to use it and which channels to focus on depending on your end goal .
 Health problems: Some students may tend to use to these social networking sites and mobile
till mid night or even more which can obviously lead to health related problems.
 Addicted: One of the major disadvantages of using social networking websites and mobile are
the students get addicted to it. They used to spend hours in those social networking sites and
on mobile which can obviously degrade the student’s academic performance.
CONCLUSION
M-Learning and Social Networking Sites are helpful in learning but teacher and parents have to
bound time limit to use it and monitor the students usage. Teacher and parents have to lock the
unofficial or unwanted sites. Students also have knowledge what is right and wrong for them and
teachers also guide them.
