2. This is one of the photos I want to use on my contents page. I will edit and crop the picture, and perhaps add
a border to it to make it seem like an album cover, as part of my magazine will be promoting new music
because this is something that my target audience said they want to read about.
This picture represents my genre of music as the main model, the person in the middle has their hood up
and this is something stereotypically associated with hip hop music. Also, the picture is not very bright, and
many forms of hip hop music talk about dark themes such as violence and drugs..etc so this represents that
too. In addition, the main focus is on the male while the females are to the side and perhaps not as relevant.
This is stereotypical of Hip Hop as the genre generally centres around males.
It will attract the audience, perhaps if it is on my contents page as it will be a way to let the audience know of
new album releases, and this picture has the ‘artist’ directly in the centre so will attract the audience’s
attention.

3. These are 2 pictures I want to use for my front
cover. I have used the rule of thirds when taking the
pictures and the models falls into the centre half,
attracting the audience’s attention. The pictures
relate to my genre as the models have their hoods
up, and their hands are in their pockets. In addition,
the models are giving direct address, which is a
common feature in hip hop magazines. However,
my first picture perhaps subverts in some ways. The
colour of the clothes are not what we might
commonly associate with hip hop. However, the
model in the second photo has more dark colours
on.
For the first photo, I think that it would look better
in black and white as it will make the colours seem
more dull and perhaps more hip hop.

4. These 2 pictures can be used for my contents page. I would
crop everything out except for the models and put them in one
third of the contents page, so I will still be using the rule of
thirds. I think that both of these pictures have associations
with hip hop – both of the models have their hoods up, and
even though the clothing types are different they both perhaps
show how hip hop is viewed by a lot of people. I think that I
prefer the first picture as it looks less ‘street’, which is the look
I am going for when creating my magazine. In addition, both of
these pictures will attract the audience’s attention as they will
take up a large portion of the contents page.
I think that both of these pictures are stereotypical, but in
different ways. Whereas the first picture presents a more
formal image of a hip hop artist, the second picture is a lot
more street style rap.

5. This is a picture I want to use on my contents page. I
think that this picture subverts stereotypes of hip hop
as the model is a female rather than what would
typically be all male. However, I think that due to the
clothing, this picture also does stereotype because
the hoodie and the cap are typical clothing that
would be associated with hip hop and rap music.
Also, the background also enforces a stereotype of
hip hop – that the people like to hang around places
like this…

6. I think these pictures will be good for my
double page spread, especially if I feature
the same central artist on the front cover as
well. I think they are good as it attracts the
reader’s attention towards the central
model, but the people standing around also
help to add to the genre. The images
represent my genre as it puts emphasis on
groups/gangs, which is stereotypically
associated with hip hop. I think that the
pictures stereotype people in the hip hop
genre as groups of people are common. We
see a group here, and this subverts and
stereotypes. Because the people standing
around are not wearing clothes we may
associate with hip hop, this is subverted,
however, the central model can be
associated with hip hop, and because he is
centred, the attention is mainly on him and
he becomes the more important person in
the photo.

7. These 2 photos can also be used for my double page spread, depending on who is
featured on the front cover. They are long shots that show the artist from head to
toe, and I think this is good because from my research, I have seen that pictures
like this are commonly used in hip hop magazines. Both models have similar
stances and the pictures are fairly similar. However, I prefer the second picture as it
will allow me to keep a better colour scheme. The blue in the first photograph will
limit the other colours that I can use. Both the pictures stereotype hip hop as the
models have their hoods up. Just like hip hop magazines, both models are giving
direct address too.
