2. Powers
• The original version of Raven was empathic, pathokinetic, could heal
others, teleport, see into the future to a limited degree, and project her
“soul-self.”
• After being cleansed of evil, she demonstrated more control over her
powers.
• The current version of Raven displays these same powers, and also has
the ability to fly, and to transport others to different dimensions.
• Her telekinesis was added specifically for the television series.
3. Relationships
• Her most well-known relationship is with Beast Boy, AKA Garfield Logan.
Throughout the series, they’ve displayed a love-hate relationship, but
they almost always end up together in the end.
• Another of her well-known relationships is with Eric Forrester, shortly
after her cleansing. No one in the Titans fully trusted Eric, but Raven
decided to go through with the relationship. Due to Eric’s complicated
relationship with technology and computers, he was slowly losing his
humanity, ultimately becoming nothing but a machine.
• Raven’s father is Trigon the Terrible, a demon. Trigon is hell-bent, no pun
intended, on conquering Earth, and eventually does so, using Raven as a
pawn. The Titans defeat him with the help of Arella, Raven’s mother, and
he tries to take over again with his sons’ help. They betray him and leave
him powerless.
4. Origins
• Raven is the daughter of the demon Trigon the Terrible and the human
Arella Roth. Arella was part of a satanic cult and was seduced by Trigon,
disguised as a human.
• Arella and Raven were rescused by the monks of Azarath, and Raven was
raised to control her emotions and exhibit pacifism. After several years,
she sensed the evil of Trigon and made her way to Earth to assemble a
team to help her defeat him, and thus the Teen Titans were born.
5. Personality
• Raven’s personality is very subdued and serious, having been raised to
show little emotion.
• After Trigon’s influence leaves her, she begins showing more emotion, but
still remains her dark, sarcastic self.
6. Weaknesses
• Raven’s biggest weakness is her emotions. The more intense her
emotions, the stronger and less controllable her powers become.
• This weakness becomes less of a problem after she’s cleansed.
7. Recommended Readings
• The New Teen Titans has lots of Raven-related plot, including the famous
“The Terror of Trigon” arc.
• The more recent Titans comics also have lots of Raven stories.
