4. WHAT IS SEMICONDUCTOR?
โข A semiconductor material is one whose electrical properties lie
in between those of insulators and good conductors. Examples
are: germanium and silicon.
โข In mathematically, A semiconductor is a substance which has
resistivity 10-4 to 0.5 ฮฉ-m in between conductors and insulators
e.g. germanium, silicon, selenium, carbon etc.
โข In terms of energy bands, semiconductors can be defined as
those materials which have almost an empty conduction band
and almost filled valence band with a very narrow energy gap (of
the order of 1 eV) separating the two.

5. INVENTION HISTORY OF SEMICONDUCTOR
โข The beginning of semiconductor
research is marked by Michael
Faradayโs 1833 report on negative
temperature coefficient of resistance
of silver sulfide. This is the first
observation of any semiconductor
property.

9. HOLE CURRENT
In physics, a hole is an
electric charge carrier with a
positive charge, equal in
magnitude but opposite in
polarity to the charge on the
electron. Holes and electrons
are the two types of charge
carriers responsible for
current in semiconductor
materials.
