2. Mr S K Sharma took charge as the Chairman & Managing Director on
January 1, 2014. He was Director (Bangalore Complex) before his
elevation. Mr Sharma joined BEL in 1978 after graduating from the
University College of Engineering, Bangalore. He completed his Masters
in Business Administration while in service. He has wide experience in
multiple disciplines covering Electronic Warfare, Avionics, Network
Centric Systems, Radars and Components, having served in various
capacities at Bangalore, Ghaziabad and Hyderabad Units. During his
tenure at Bangalore Complex, he was responsible for the development of
Airborne Radar Warning Receivers and Avionic products in collaboration
with DRDO. He was involved in the indigenous development of
components for various strategic projects and was instrumental in setting
up an automated production facility for Microwave Super-Components.
He has served as Unit Head of BEL-Hyderabad and under his leadership,
the Unit was conferred the prestigious Raksha Mantri Award for best
performing Defence PSU. He was responsible for the successful execution
of large land-mobile Electronic Warfare projects and induction of
advanced Naval ESM systems for the armed forces. Mr Sharma was
General Manager (Network Centric Systems) and Head of Ghaziabad Unit
before taking charge as Director (Bangalore Complex) in September 2011.
At Bangalore Complex, he initiated various R&D and modernisation
projects and achieved significant business growth. As part of Quality
initiatives, he spearheaded the Business Excellence process to attain
second level recognition in the CII-Exim Award.

3. Mr M L Shanmukh has been Director (HR) from
August 2004. Before being elevated to the BEL
Board, Mr Shanmukh was Group General Manager
(HRD) at CONCOR (Container Corporation of India),
a blue chip PSU under the Ministry of Railways. Prior
to that, he had worked in the Kerala State Electronics
Development Corporation Limited. He brings with
him a wealth of experience in the fields of Human
Resources Management, Industrial Relations and
Welfare. Mr Shanmukh has travelled widely in the
course of his work. He has undergone special training
in Human Resource Development Practices at
Rotterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singapore
under a Technical Assistance Programme aided by the
Royal Netherlands Government. He holds a BA in
Economics, LLB and Post Graduate Diploma in
Personnel and Industrial Relations.

4. Dr Ajit T Kalghatgi took charge as Director (R&D) of BEL on
September 1, 2012. He was till recently Chief Scientist at BEL’s
Central Research Laboratory (CRL) at Bangalore. Dr Kalghatgi
completed his BE in Electronics & Communications from Mysore
University; M.Tech in Microwave & Radar Engineering from IIT,
Kharagpur; and Ph.D. from Leeds University, UK. Dr Kalghatgi has
more than 30 years of experience in the field of RF &
Communication Engineering. His research interests are in RF and
Microwave Systems, Smart Antennas, RF MEMs and Secure
Communication Technologies. He has more than 70 research papers
and a patent to his credit. He has won the BEL R&D Award for
making significant contributions to the Company’s R&D programme.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions towards technology
development, leading to product design in the field of Secure Spread
Spectrum Communication, the Society of Defence Technologists
(SODET) conferred on him the Gold Award for Technology
Development & Innovation for the year 2005-06. He is also the
recipient of the Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence in Innovation
(2007-08 and 2008-09).

5. Mr P C Jain took charge as Director (Marketing) on
September 1, 2013. He was General Manager of Missile
Systems Strategic Business Unit at BEL-Bangalore before his
elevation. Mr Jain joined BEL-Ghaziabad in February 1978
as Deputy Engineer after graduating in Mechanical
Engineering from IIT, Delhi. Later on, while in service, he
did MTech in Microwaves from IIT, Delhi. He contributed to
the development of Stripline and Microstripline antennas for
IFF Radars and worked on production testing of
communication, C4I and Radar Systems. As General
Manager of the Military Radars Strategic Business Unit at
BEL-Bangalore, he executed prestigious projects such as the
development of indigenous Weapon Locating Radar and
productionisation of Akash Weapon System. During his
tenure as General Manager, Military Radars won awards such
as the Raksha Mantri Award for Best Performing Division
among all Defence PSUs, the Raksha Mantri Award for
Import Substitution and CMD’s Rolling Trophy for Best SBU
in Business Excellence.

6. Mr Prabhat R Acharya took charge as Director (Finance) on
September 2, 2013. He has nearly 28 years of work experience with
the Government of India. Mr Acharya started his career with the then
DCM Ltd and went on to work for ONGC. He joined the Indian Audit
and Accounts Service in 1985. Since then, he has handled diverse
roles with broad-based expertise in public policy, finance, personnel,
administration and oversight management. He has served as Finance
Member of the Delhi Development Authority; Joint Secretary
(Finance), NATGRID, Ministry of Home Affairs; Principal Director
(International Relations), O/o C&AG of India; Accountant General
(Audit), West Bengal; Principal Director of Audit & Ex-Officio
Member Audit Board, Kolkata; Counsellor in the High Commission
of India, London; Assistant (Personnel) & Director C&AG
(Personnel); and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Surface
Transport. He is an MBA in International Business from IIFT, New
Delhi, a Law Graduate from CLC, Delhi University, a Post Graduate
from Utkal University, and Diploma holder in Labour Laws from the
Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. He is presently pursuing Ph.D. in
the area of Sustainable Performance Management.

7. Mr Girish Kumar took charge as Director (Bangalore Complex) on
May 1, 2016. He was Executive Director (Radar) & Unit Head of BEL-
Ghaziabad Unit prior to his elevation. Mr Girish Kumar joined BEL-
Ghaziabad as a Probationary Engineer in 1979 after completing his BE
(Mech.) from MITS, Gwalior. Over a period of next 30 years, he worked
in Ghaziabad, Kotdwara and Bangalore Units of the Company and
headed Production, Materials Management, Quality Management and
Services Divisions. In August 2009, he was elevated as General
Manager of BEL’s Export Manufacturing SBU. He was transferred to
Corporate Office to head Total Quality Management (TQM) in 2010. In
June 2011, he was posted as General Manager (HR) at BEL-Bengaluru.
In July 2012, he moved to Ghaziabad Unit as GM (Radar) & Unit Head.
Under his leadership, the Unit was awarded second level in the CII Exim
Bank Award for Business Excellence and was also certified for CMMI
level 3. Mr Girish Kumar is a qualified assessor for ISO 9001:2000 and
Business Excellence. He has participated in the Union of Japanese
Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) study mission on TQM in July 2008.
He has authored a book on ISO 9000 which was published in 1996. He
has been profiled by Prof T V Rao in the book “100 Managers in
Action”. He is keen on trekking and literature.
