A major Japanese logistics company painted the rooftops of 5,000 trucks and vehicles with Thermal Barrier Paint to reduce indoor temperatures and increase revenue. During tests, the painted trucks' cargo compartments recorded temperatures up to 10°C cooler on hot days. With cooler temperatures, the company could offer controlled temperature vehicle services and charge premiums to customers.

A major Japanese logistics company, operating a
fleet of more than 5,000 trucks and light vehicles
country-wide, has found an innovative way to
increase revenue.
It has upgraded its vehicles by painting the cargo
compartment’s rooftop with Thermal Barrier
Paint. The painted trucks now qualify as
“Controlled Temperature” vehicles. The company
can offer more value to its customers and charge
an additional premium for its services.
During the proof of concept phase, the painted
truck’s cargo compartment recorded up to 10°C
less inside during hot, sunny days.
Refrigerated trucks in the fleet are expected to
become more fuel efficient too, as their
compressor’s workload will be reduced.
