TOPIC : Computer VIRUS
4
What is virus
 A computer virus is a program or piece of code that is
loaded onto your computer without your knowledge
and runs against your wishes.
 Viruses can also replicate themselves.
All computer viruses are man-made.
 A simple virus that can make a copy
of itself over and over again is
relatively easy to produce.
5
History of virus
 Since 1987, when a virus inected ARPANET, a large
network used by the Defense Department and many
universities, many antivirus programs have become
available.
 These programs periodically check your computer
system for the best-known types of viruses.
6
How to spread virus
 Virus spreads through e-mail attachments, portable
devices, websites containing malicious scripts and file
downloads.
 Although the Internet gets a bad rap as a source of
viruses, you’re no more likely to contract a virus from
the Web than you are from packaged software. Still,
scan everything you download, and update your
antivirus software regularly.
7
What can virus do
 Virus can trick you into buying fake software, steal your
personal information, and use it to get to your money or be
sold on the digital equivalent of the black market.
 Powerful viruses are valuable and potentially lucrative
tools.
 Damage software
 Damage data
 Slow your system
 Can take control
 Steal information
8
Types of virus
 Adware
 Spyware
 Worms
 Trojan Horse
 Bots
 E-mail virus
9
Adware: Adware is a form of software that
downloads or displays unwanted ads when a user is
online, collects marketing data and other information
without the user's knowledge or redirects search
requests to certain advertising websites.
10
Spyware :
Spyware is a general term used to describe software that
performs certain behaviors, generally without
appropriately obtaining your consent first, such as:
 Advertising
 Collecting personal information
 Changing the configuration of
your computer
11
worm:
This program is very similar to a virus and has the
ability to self-replicate leading to negative effects on
your computer. For example: lovgate.F
12
Trojans virus:
It can illegally trace important login details of user
online. For example E-Banking is common among
users,therefore,vulnerability of tracing your login
details whenever your PC
is working without any
strong powerful
antivirus installed.
13
Bots:
 A bot worm is a self-replicating malware program that
resides in current memory (RAM), turns infected
computers into zombies (or bots) and transmits itself
to other computers.
14
Email virus:
This is a viurs spread via an email.Such a virus will hide
in an email and when the
recipient opens the email.
15
Conclusion
 I think we should not use the pc without any antivirus
security as it may cause damage to our important data.
 Do not copy or transfer any data or file without
scanning the disk.
