ABSTRACT
The study of diversity of small mammals was investigated in Trat Agroforestry Research Station (TARS),
Trat Province are compared with Jedkod-Pongkonsao Natural Study and Ecotourism Center (JPNSEC), Saraburi
Province. Live trap and pitfall trap were used to survey bimonthly from October 2009 to September 2010. Total
sampling effort was 5,460 trap nights including 3,780 live-trapped rodents (trap success 6.29%) and 1,680 pitfalls
(trap success 0.29%). There were 135 individuals representing 15 small mammals species captured. 59 individuals of
9 species were from inside TARS, while 76 individuals of 13 species were captured from JPNSEC. JPNSEC was
higher in the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) than TARS (P < 0.05). The agroforestry practice plot showed the
highest species diversity of TARS, while the secondary forest plot showed the highest species diversity of JPNSEC.
Maxomys surifer was a very common species in both of study sites. These results also suggest that the forest patch
contact within the large protected forest contains greater species diversity than that of the isolated forest patch.
