 Writer, lecturer, university president, statesman
and a diplomat
 Started his career as a journalist
 Went to US when the Japanese invaded our
country but returned to Philippines with
McArthur in the famous Leyte landing.
 Served as an ambassador to Washington
 Received 29 honorary degrees
 Honored with Pulitzer prize award
 Elected as the president of the united nations
general assembly.

7.  I am a Filipino – inheritor of a great past...
 I sprung from a hardy race...
 This is the land they sought and found...
 This land I received in trust from them and
in trust will pass it to my children...
 In my blood runs the immortal seed of
heroes...
 That seed is immortal..
 The seed I bear within me is an immortal
seed. It is the mark of my personhood, the
symbol of dignity as a human being.
