 Jules Verne and H.G. Wells were two of the greatest sci-fi writers of the
late 19th century. Jules Verne was French.
 Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein as the founder of science fiction.
 Verne's most well-known books was Journey to the Center of the
Earth (1864).
 H.G. Wells was British. His most important novel was The Time
Machine. Wells was also the inventor of a subgenre within science fiction
called the "dying Earth". This subgenre depicts Earth as it faces some
sort of apocalyptical event. The Time Machine was written in this genre.
"Dying Earth" has become an extremely popular subgenre within science
fiction.

 Another important science fiction writer was Hugo Gernsback. Gernsback
was an American inventor. He is most famous for founding the first
science fiction magazine in history. It was entitled "Amazon Stories." One
of the most prestigious prizes in science fiction, the Hugo Award, is
named after Gernsback.
