2. Metaphor
Metaphors are used to help us understand the unknown, because
we use what we know in comparison with something we don't
know to get a better understanding of the unknown.
For example:-
He has a heart of stone.
-Which means that he is a brave person.
For me time is money.
-means that time is important and we should never waste it.
A blanket of snow-covered the streets.
-which means that streets are fully covered with snow just like a
person covered with a blanked, you can’t see it.
3. Metaphor examples from the story ‘Great Expectations’
From the Story:
‘So, I presented Joe to Herbert who held out this hand, but Joe backed from
it, and held on by the birds nest’
‘Sentence 218’
The previous metaphor explains how Joe ignored Herbert when Pip
introduced them to each other.
Same meaning:
A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your
own version in return.
In this metaphor a book is given as an example, if you don’t like something
try to change it your self, without overreacting about it, just like what Joe did
by ignoring Herbert without saying a word.
