NGO VISIT
The interns of Public Relations Society of India went in a group of four to visit an Ngo in
Baghbazar area as a part of their internship project.

The NGO is dedicated to Education, health & total care of the slum children of Calcutta. Starting
from 9th
July,2003 and registered under SocietiesRegistration Act in April 2005, the NGO has
earned many distinctions till date.
.Srijan is 8 years old. They take pride & their mission is to see it to stand high. Srijan wants their
children to take the highest responsibilityin every aspects of the society. The NGO firmly
believesinregular interaction with the children for their needsof primary importance. Among
its governing bodies,the NGO is managed by Sri Salil Chatterjee (President),Dr.Mahua Das(Vice-
President),Smt.Sanghita Bhattacharjee(Secretary), Smt.Kumkum Nandy Asst.Secretary), Sri
Himangshu Chakraborty (Treasurer), Dr.Indrani Sen, Dr.Dipti Chakraborty, Smt.Rituparna
Gangopadhyay, Sri Shyamlal Ranjan Bhattacharya (Member) along with regular support and
maintainance by the ex-students of Baghbazar Women’s College,teachers and friendsresiding
in differentparts of India and abroad.
Seats are limited though they try to accommodate as many children as possible.Earlier which
confined to a non-formal weekend school for neighbouring slum children along with preliminary
health & hygiene awareness program now has expanded to accommodate around 40 slum
children for whom health & hygiene awareness programs, health check up camps, basic
computer literacy programs are organized. Cultural competition on painting, singing,dancing &
recitation are organized each year by Srijan in collaboration with Baghbazar Women’s College.
Very recently an exhibitionof handicrafts made by the children was also showcased at
Chirantani, Re-Union of college.
Srijan seek all round development of each and every child and believeschildrenare the root of
any development.Each year they take 40 slum children and the classes are heldthrice a week.It
is manage by the ex-students who take out their precious time and lend support to the children.

With no grant from the government they want people to come forward to help them.”Without
any body’s help we can’t proceed and achieve the target to spread literacy. Many of these
children has a dream to become doctors, teachers and players. So we are trying our best to
fulfil this” says Sanghita Bhattcharyya, Secretary of Srijan.
