Một nghiên cứu mới đây cho biết ăn ớt thường xuyên có thể giúp giảm nguy cơ Parkinson - một rối loạn thoái 
hóa hệ thần kinh trung ương làm suy yếu khả năng vận động. 
Họ thấy rằng những người ăn các loại thực phẩm chứa một dạng nicotine ăn được như các loại ớt, 
cà chua, khoai tây và cà tím một cách chừng mực, điều độ và khoa học đều có thể phòng ngừa 
được căn bệnh này. 
Hiện ở Mỹ có khoảng gần 1 triệu người sống chung với bệnh Parkinson. Ở giai đoạn mới bị bệnh, 
Parkinson thể hiện ở việc người bệnh khó kiểm soát các cử động. Các triệu chứng ban đầu gồm run 
tay, chân tay tê cứng và gặp khó khăn khi đi bộ. Khi bệnh tiến triển, người bệnh bắt đầu gặp các 
vấn đề về nhận thức và dần sa sút trí tuệ. 
"Ăn ớt hai hoặc ba lần một tuần, đều đặn như vậy có thể giúp giảm ít nhất 30% nguy cơ Parkinson 
tiến triển." - Giáo sư Susan Searles Nielsen ở trường đại học Washington cho biết.
