UCSC Chile English Students Request Return to Traditional Teaching Practices
1. Dear Ms. Sanhueza,
We – as English Pedagogy students at UCSC Chile - are writing in order to complain about Teaching
Practice course I, which has started this second semester in English Pedagogy. The truth is that we
felt very disappointed, because we were expecting to do this course in a real context: practicing in
a high school.
According to the final results that our degree’s specialization supposes, we need to be introduced
to the Chilean educational system, ideally at high school level. We must know it in a deeper way at
the end of our studies. Nevertheless, the new system that has been applied this semester does not
allow us to do it through the classical method of teaching practice that everyone knows as the
most appropriate. Furthermore, we believe that teaching superior students is quite challenging.
Some of us do not feel comfortable with that situation.
We suggest that you replace the new teaching practice system for the previous one. Even though
it could be difficult for you, because we know about some cases in which students of our same
degree have experienced problems to obtain a place to develop their teaching practices course.
However, it is necessary for us and our classmates for the reason that we need to increase our
abilities in terms of teaching training and expertise.
We look forward to receiving your response about this issue at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
English Pedagogy Students.
