2. Aim and Objectives for the Day
• Aim: To agree the PRIME Centre Wales Long Term
Conditions research strategy
• Objectives:
• To bring together researchers, representatives from government,
local authorities, commercial sector, third sector, community
members and their supporters/carers.
• To identify the research issues, prioritise these and establish how
they can be collectively delivered.

4. Consensus process
• Workshop 1
1. Individually write down your three identified key
priorities for research on coloured paper.
2. Pair with another person and present your ideas to
each other. Then jointly agree on the most important
three ideas out of the six originally presented. Write
these three ideas onto a different coloured piece of
paper.
5. Consensus process

1.Regroup with another pair of participants
(who have completed the same process),
present and discuss your collective six ideas.
2.The four of you should then narrow the six
ideas down and agree three ideas. These
should be written down on a different
coloured paper.

9. Priorities to include from absent delegates
• · For primary care and emergency/unscheduled care to know its role in, and to
work at, delivering the Welsh Government’s Implementation Plan for Rare Diseases
(the majority of which are long term and 80% have a genetic basis).
• For all primary care healthcare staff to be open to considering genetic factors
when caring for individuals and families, promoting partnership working with those who
may be expert in the condition that affects their families.
• · For primary and emergency care to be forward thinking in considering how
genomics is impacting and will impact practice (for all staff) and to plan accordingly to
incorporate these advances, developing the knowledge and skills to promote
personalised care and competent practice, also sharing best practice.
