Curieuse island seychelles – a dreamy tropical island
1. This little granitic island in the Seychelles is within a few
metres from Praslin Island's north coast. The huge Aldabra
tortoises, a few Black Parrots, and Coco de Mer palms are
among the Seychelles' indigenous species found on the Curieuse
island. This island is the only area where Coco de Mer grows
naturally, except from the Valle de Mai Natural Reserve.
CURIEUSE ISLAND
SEYCHELLES – A
DREAMY TROPICAL
ISLAND
Approximately 500 Aldabra Giant
Tortoises live on this island now. The
Aldabra Tortoises are among the
world's largest land tortoises,
reaching up to 550 pounds and living
for up to 150 years. These tortoises
are cared after until they reach the
age of five, when they are released
into the wild as part of a conservation
initiative.
Curieuse is the fifth-largest of the Inner Seychelles islands,
with a rich marine life surrounding it. To safeguard the
natural fauna, the Curieuse Marine National Park was
established in 1979 on Curieuse Island and its surrounding
waters. They protect the corals that live along the coast and
have started a number of coral restoration projects, including
a nursery where corals are grown.

The Coco de Mer is another
attraction on Curieuse Island
(Double coconut). This island is the
only place where Coco de Mer
grows naturally, aside from the
Valle de Mai nature reserve. One of
the island's most distinctive
features is the reddish Laterite
soil. The ruins of the leprosarium
can still be seen on the shores of
Anse Jose today.
