People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) is a non
–profit animal activist group that focuses explicitly on exposing animal brutality and
ensuring the safety of all animals. PETA promises to protect animals from misconduct, abuse, brutality, and inhumane slaughtering. The activist
group's official motto is, '' Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way''(PETA). This motto
officially means that animals are not ours to use or cause essential harm to by no means necessary. PETA was created in March of 1980, after founders,
Alex Pacheco and Ingrid Newkirk were inspired by Peter Sanger's book ''Animal Liberation''; which Ingrid Newkirk has said the book gave her... Show

The organization's first protest was at a chicken slaughterhouse at The Arrow Live Poultry Company in Washington D.C. This protest was planned
after witnesses saw the chickens being treated and mishandled. In an article written by Hank Burchard for ''The Washington Post'', he writes about
the protests and the protesters reasoning's: 'A PETA spokesman damns the Arrow people for handling chickens "like furniture" and callously
binding the wings and legs of a bird ready for slaughter "in front of all the other chickens'' (8). This protest was a small step for ensuring the rights
of animals, but eventually led to larger movements. After small protests and acknowledgements, nearly a year later, PETA fought the largest case of
its history. This case is now known as, The Silver Spring Case of 1981. The Silver Spring Case: The Discovery The Silver Spring case of 1981 was
case that brought monkeys justice, PETA national attention and recognition by the U.S Supreme Court for their efforts in insuring justice. When Alex

government and The National Institute of Health. Once meeting head neuroscientist and experimenter, Edward Taub, Alex discovered what he was

Film Analysis Of Casablanca
With the threat of Nazis in Europe, many people flee to a nightclub in Casablanca to acquire illegal letters that'll allow them to escape to America. The
film, Casablanca, takes place during World War II and is about an American expatriate, Rick, who must make the choice of whether or not to help out
his former lover, Ilsa, and her husband flee to neutral Portugal by giving them transit letters that are deemed priceless by many refugees. Casablanca
stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund. The film was made in 1942 and was directed by Michael Curtiz, and produced
by Hal B. Wallis. The film is rated PG, and is a romantic drama type of film.
Rick owns a nightclub and restaurant called "Rick's CafГ© AmГ©ricain" that attracts many refugees looking for priceless transit letters. One of
Rick's regulars, a crook by the name of Ugarte asks Rick to hold on to some transit letters that he acquired from two murdered German messengers
that allow the person to travel to neutral Portugal. Ugarte had planned to sell the letters at the club but he couldn't because he was arrested for killing
the messengers and dies being the only one who knows Rick has the letters. Rick finds out that his former lover, Ilsa is in town with her husband who
was supposed to buy the letters from Ugarte, but now has to find an alternative. This all leads to a tough challenge for Rick that brings him heartbreak
and an extremely difficult decision to make. The film is based on Joan

Muscular Dystrophy: A Wasted Life
A Wasted Life
Picture this, a puppy only bred to suffer. At TAMU Laboratories golden retrievers as well as other breeds of dogs are bred with Muscular
Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy is a muscular disease. Some symptoms of muscular dystrophy are loss of muscle mass, limb deformity, difficulty
swallowing, and excessive drooling. Walking from one side to the other side of their cages began to feel like climbing a mountain as their muscles
become weaker and weaker. The tongues of the dogs will swell so large that choking and dying is very feasible. They are fed a thin, watery gruel.
Dogs spend many years behind bars, maybe even their entire lives. The community needs to put an end to animal testing, and prevent other animals
from ever having to misspend their lives at laboratories. It all started at Texas A&M University. Joe Kornegay, has been using public funds for the
past 35 years to breed dogs with the painful, crippling disease, MD (Muscular Dystrophy). Danica is one of the many dogs who have had to suffer in
Texas A&M University. She was a black retriever and it was not long after she was born that MD took over her body.
By the time Danica was 7 months old she was not able to sit up properly. She was too feeble to even stand up, or open her jaw. A chain of excessive
saliva leaked from her mouth. Danica would vomit blood, had labored breathing, and had an irregular heart rhythm. She was born at the University of
North Carolina, when she was 3 she was transported to

Define an interest group, with examples.
The interest group that I will discuss in this paper is the one of the most well–known animal rights groups in the world; People for the ethical treatment
of animals, commonly known as, PETA. Founded in March 1980 by Newkirk and fellowanimal rights activist Alex Pacheco, the organization first
caught the public's attention in the summer of 1981 during what became known as the Silver Spring monkeys case, a widely publicized dispute about
experiments conducted on 17 macaque monkeys inside the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. The group first came to ... Show

Newkirk told Salon in 2001 that PETA works toward the ideal, but tries in the meantime to provide carrot–and–stick incentives. There has also been
criticism from feminists within the movement about the use of scantily clad women in PETA's anti–fur campaigns, and criticism in general that the
group's media stunts trivialize animal rights. Newkirk's view is that PETA has a duty to be "press sluts".
Outside the movement, the confrontational nature of PETA's campaigns has caused concern, as has the estimated 85% of animals it euthanizes. PETA
was further criticized in 2005 by United States Senator Jim Inhofe for having given grants several years earlier to Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and
Earth Liberation Front (ELF) activists, two groups that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified as agents of domestic terrorism. PETA
responded that it has no involvement in ALF or ELF actions and does not support violence, though Newkirk has elsewhere made clear that she
supports the removal of animals from laboratories and other facilities, including as a result of illegal direct action, (People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals, 2010). For PETA, the only permissible skin to show is human. Partially clad members of the organization participated in a protest alongside

Pet Alliance Of Greater Orlando: A Case Study
Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is a nonprofit organization, like the ASPCA, dedicated to protecting animal welfare and educating the public on
animal rights. While the ASPCA is focused on animal welfare nationwide, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is a smaller organization in the state of
Florida that currently serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and parts of Volusia, Brevard, and Lake counties. The organization was founded in 1937 as
the Orlando Humane Society, and later became the SPCA of Central Florida in 2001. In 2014, the SPCA changed their name to Pet Alliance of Greater
Orlando to reflect their new and more emphasized relationship with the community. The organization continues to be one of the largest organizations

An example of one of these events is "Paws in The Park," a fundraiser event sponsored by Sea World, where people can come and register to walk
their dogs around Lake Eola in Orlando to help raise money for their shelters. They also do free microchip scans and give people's pets microchips as
well. They even bring dogs and cats that are available to adopt to the park. These events are used to help the animals find new homes and to help keep
the organization running so that they can continue educating people on animal welfare and provide animals with homes. Another event that is coming
up soon is called the "Humane Heroes Luncheon," where the organization informs people on how to create more caring communities by promoting
happier, healthier pets and their families. They also discuss who they are and what their organization does which shows that they want people to

Peta Animal Rights
PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is the largest organization in the world that fights against animal cruelty. Their main objective is to
end animal cruelty by banning any and all industries where animals suffer the most. Animals are not only used in the food industry, but in many others
as well; clothing, experimentation and entertainment. PETA believes that animals' lives are just as important as any human being's life. They
encourage vegetarianism by inspiring others to believe that animals have thoughts and feelings just as humans do, therefore implying that animals
should be treated like humans. They post videos and other links supporting their fight for animal rights and give examples and stories of how animals
are abused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They use heartrending photos, harsh language and pitiful videos to stimulate a readers emotions. PETA is constantly comparing animals to
humans, thus making it difficult not to cringe when the different kinds of animal abuse are discussed. In an article on PETA's website, "Why
Animal Rights?", PETA's founder Ingrid Newkirk said "When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness, and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each
one values his or her life and fights the knife." Ingrid is comparing humans to animals saying we all have the same thoughts, feelings and emotions
especially when it comes to abuse. When talking about these harsh conditions PETA will make the reader feel guilty by saying things like "humans
do this" and "humans do that" and posing the question of "would you do this" or "would you do that". They ask "If you wouldn't eat a dog, why eat a
pig?", making bacon lovers feel guilty for eating bacon. People are entitled to their own choices however PETA effectively manipulates the situation
because when people start feeling bad about something, they immediately think of

reason why people should recognize the importance of animal right activist groups such as PETA (People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

The USDA found that Boys Town failed to comply with the Animal Welfare Act. PETA also discovered that only twenty
–three out of fifty–four dogs
slated for cancer experiments at the City of Hope, a federally funded laboratory, survived long enough for the actual experiment to begin. The rest died
of infections, poisoning, anesthesia overdose, and other causes linked to gross negligence, inadequate veterinary care, and improper housing. Such
abuse acts on animals are inhumane and absolutely unnecessary. With PETA's protection, animals can live freely without being subjected to researchers
invasive and hostile terrorists like acts.
Laboratory experiments are not the only place where unethical treatment of animals takes place. In the business of fur trading many animals are
tormented and killed ruthlessly. In one of PETA's precedent–setting cases, a California furrier was charged with cruelty after a PETA investigator
filmed him electrocuting chinchillas by clipping wires to the animals' genitals. The American Veterinary Medical Association denounced the killing
method saying, " it causes animals to experience a heart attack while fully conscious." In another undercover expose, PETA videotaped a

PETA: Ingrid Newkirk's Fight For Animal Rights
Back then, there were no such organizations similar to PETA who would fight for animal rights. The only things a person can do if they wanted to
provide for animals are donating money to a community or volunteering at a nearby animal shelter. It was in 1980 when PETA officially started for
the first time to protest against chicken slaughter (PETA). PETA is still an active group and they're probably way bigger than they were when they
started. The person the started it all and is still in control of PETA is Ingrid Newkirk. I would say that Newkirk is pretty much an extremist and to

Balance Requires Meat Analysis
Of the articles I read, the one that I found most convincing was "We Require Balance. Balance Requires Meat" by Stacey Roussel. Roussel's
perspective comes from the perspective of a farmer. The reason being that I found Roussel's argument to be the most convincing is because she
explained why animals are important and was reasonable in regards to both perspectives, vegan and non–vegan. She openly admits that society cannot
function without animals, and therefore a balance needs to be made between farmers and their land and the number of animals that are eaten. Animals
are not just used for meaat, but also fertilization for growing vegetables. Roussel states that the animals and farmer cannot survive without each other. I

Analysis Of The Book ' The Stitches '
Throughout the childhood of David Small, he had to face with difficult realities. These difficulties came from many sources: his family, his illness, his
society, ... However, David still managed to survived through. All of the struggles are depicted successfully in Stitches which are overwhelmed with
silences and secrets via an interesting form of literature: comic book.
The Stitches is a memoir by David Small about the life of himself since he was a child. In the first pages of the book, the silence is prevailed the
atmosphere as no one in the Small family has a word to others in the dinner. No one talks, and no one understand the others. After the dinner,
members of the family live in their own world: "Dad ... [goes] down to his basement and thumped a punching bag", "my brother ... [beats] on his
drum." (17) Even David learns "a way of expressing ... wordlessly" as he is always getting sick. (18) His dad, as a doctor, is supposed to know "what
to do" to cure him. (20) However, his treatment consists of a heavy dose of x–rays exposure, which causes a growth on his neck. Initially this growth is
diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst; nevertheless, after the first surgery this growth is re–diagnosed as a dangerous cancer that one of his vocal cords must
be removed together with the tumor in the following surgery. This time David is physically silenced; but his silence doesn't change anything in his
house. They are still detached from others. Moreover, his parents always complain that they

Should Animals Deserve Rights?
Animals Deserve Rights
Rayvin Scott
Azusa Pacific University, University College
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; The Declaration of Independence holds these rights to be self–evident and unalienable. In the eighteenth
century when these words were written they were called natural rights, today we call them human rights" (McShea 34). The issue of whether or not to
grant animal rights such as those that humans retain, is a greatly disputed issue. Philosophers, clergyman, and politicians have argued the point of
animal rights for years, but without success. Animal right is an extremely intricate issue that involves the question of animal intelligence, animal
activist groups, and the pros and cons of granting animals their rights. Animals deserves rights just as humans because they have the same abilities that
we have. In order for humans to function in daily life with confidence rights must be set in stone for humans to remain secure. Knowing this, animals
should have a firm list of law to protect them as they participate in their daily life activities. Psychologists around the world, who have studied
nonhuman primates, argue that these animals possess the capacity to communicate. They go on to explain that a communication barrier is all that
separates humans from animals. If they bridged that barrier, then humans could talk with animals. Beatrice and Robert Gardner, two psychologists of
the University of Nevada, realized that the pharynx and larynx of

Animal Testing Research Paper
Should people hurt animals? Should people kill animals for human drugs? These are questions citizens need to ask themselves everyday. Many animals
are being hurt or killed every year because scientists are testing on them. Animals do not deserve this abuse just for human gain. Animal testing is
wrong and should be stopped, because animals are being hurt and mistreated and the scientists are not using new methods, and developing bad drugs.
Approximately 23 million animals are being tested each year, according to the Office of Technology Assessment. This is not ok, the madness needs to
stop.
Even though animals are being hurt, many breakthroughs in the medical field are because of animals. They gave humans many advantages in many

There is only one act that helps animals and that is Animals Welfare Act (AWA). This act only protects them a little and restricts scientists by the bare
minimum, they can transport, research, or exhibit any animal at any time. The types of tests these scientists are doing are cruel. For example, they are
forcing rats and mice to inhale toxic fumes, force–feeding dogs with pesticides, and dripping corrosive chemicals into rabbits sensitive eyes. Jeremey
Bentham expresses this by saying, " The question is not, can they reason, nor, can they talk. But, can they suffer?"(Animals in Science/ Research).
Jeremey is saying here that it does not matter if they can not talk or reason, but can they feel pain. These tests are very cruel and should be stopped.
New research done by PETA shows many new ways of testing. One new way is computer modeling, this is the programming of a human body in a
computer. High tech systems will simulate real tests on the human body and give a very accurate answer. Another new test is putting human tissue into
a test tube and examining it that way. This test may be limited, but scientists will be able to see the

Animal Case : The Silver Spring Monkey Case
All animals, all living things shouldn't be treated cruelly. Most animals are defenseless and haven't done anything wrong and we humans have the
ability to treat them kindly and help those animals who are being tested on and being hunted down one by one for their fur, tusks, skin, feathers, or
just as trophies, etc. I choose the Silver Spring Monkey case because as I was reading about it and looking at pictures of the terrible conditions of
them I knew that I had to write about it. I feel very strongly about animals I don't like to see them mistreated it breaks my heart and even though I
wish I could do more about all those animals who unfortunately haven't had a very fortunate life and have suffered greatly; I will continue to take
surveys for them and do whatever I can to help. The Silver Spring monkeys were 17 wild–born macaque monkeys from the Philippines who were kept
in the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In the summer of 1981, one of PETA's founders, a student named Alex Pacheco, set out to gain some experience in a laboratory and began working
undercover at the Institute for Behavioral Research (IBR). IBR was a federally funded laboratory run by psychologist and animal experimenter
Edward Taub, a man with no medical training. Alex found 17 monkeys in poor living conditions, absolutely filthy, living in tiny wire cages and what

Jeremy Rifkin Animals
Over 100 million animals are killed in U.S laboratories for experimentation and chemical drug, food and cosmetics testing. In "A change of heart" by
Jeremy Rifkin focuses on telling readers, how animals have feelings, think and are really smart. He gives examples and shows evidence on how they
are more like us than we imagined. How the way that animals are treated is wrong. There is no doubt that we should stop animal cruelty.
They are more like us than we imagined. Jeremy Rifkin mentions that "They suffer, experience stress, affection, excitement and even love". For example

Rifkin states that "The current studies open up a new phase, allowing us to expand and deepen our empathy to included the border community with
whom we share the earth with". As evidence there are so many new studies about animals and how they all feel and think so now that we all know that
they do, why keep keep hurting them? Just because a fish can't tell you they are feeling the pain people are causing them or show emotion , doesn't
make it okay to do it. Animals do think, I wonder what they think of us. In an article telegraph discusses a topic about four teens that stole a dog
from his home and tortured it for hours in one of the most worst cases an RSPCA inspector had ever seen."These youths admitted feeding him drugs,
kicking and punching him, and wringing and breaking his neck before dumping him". The four teens were given 12 months probation and are not
allowed to have any pets for 5 years and were given a fee. That was all that was given to the teens after they did cruel stuff to that poor dog. Animals
should have animal rights because cases like these are not acceptable or right.
To sum up they should have their rights and we should stop animal cruelty. They are more like us than we imagined, by all the facts that were giving
we know that now. We share the earth with these beautiful animals, we all feel pain, we all think, and we all have a heart. If we have rights why don't

There 's no better starting point; 'Gaslight ' was the embryo of film noir – it shines through, far brighter than a Curtis Bernhardt production i.e.

Right from the enormity of 'Gaslight 's ' musical cords composed by B. Kaper; cajoled ambiance and expressions the filmography captivates the

Italian Neorealism Genre
During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The
Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location
meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World
War II. The early films were about social issues and war. DirectorRoberto Rossellini's created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open
City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany
occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian
economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater impact to this story.
Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I've never watched a foreign movie before and it was something
different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was going on. For me it's incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and
yet movies here not in the US can't even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time following the movie because the
lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren't that amazing I feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i'd
love it even more. The film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters living in Rome. Francesco
works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti–Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco's fiancГ©e, the Pina is
involved in the struggle as well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city from getting enough to
eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini balances the film's darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially
when using the priest Don Pietro. The Part that

normally less initiative in the real life. There is also an action made by Devlin that he "accidentally" hugs Alicia from her back while he ties a cloth
to her, and Alicia does not express any uncomfortable feelings which against Devlin's action. And it is also a clue that Alicia and Devlin will have a
romantic relationship in the film. The other things in the film caught my eye is the first kiss between Alicia and Devlin. After they have some drink,
they begin to talk about something deep in their life. After they hiking to the top of the mountain, Devlin takes his first step to kiss Alicia, which is a
very romantic scene. Most importantly, they have their kiss in a hotel, and the second kiss is even harder than the first one, which show that they are
fall in love with each other deeply. There is no doubt that their love is true love because they can fall in love with each other with heart and soul at
this tough time. This scene can make the audiences touched. All in all, this is a very great film. I was impressive by the love between Alicia and

Humane treatment of animals vs. factory farms This is a topic I am extremely familiar with, I have done many research based projects on this
topic. To start off I will explain what the topic is even about. First I will inform you about the "Humane treatment of animals" side. There is big
controversy over how animals are treated in the factories that produce our food sold in grocery stores all over the world. These animals are given
many added hormones, they are either underfed or overfed. The conditions in which they stay in are very poor. Most factories don't have light for the
animals, or ventilation. So as you can imagine the question arises, how could that be healthy to eat?
Most people aren't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The added hormones, and steroids to get the animals through the harsh conditions, are being eaten by people as well. Most factory farms are trying to
get as much bang for their buck. The more animals they give to the companies that process the meat, the more money they get in return. So the
strategy is to fit as many animals as possible into the barns. No matter if the animals have ventilation or even room to walk. A few animals will die
before they even come to take them away. The animals over the years have been genetically modified so that they are bigger. The bigger the animal
the more meat that is produced. The more meat produced the more money the factory farm and the processor earns. PETA (people for the ethical
treatment of animals) is the largest organization that helps to fight for animal rights. ! PETA was formed in 1980 by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex
Pacheco. According to a biography on The Famous People website, when Ingrid was younger she never payed much attention to animals. Infact, she
rather enjoyed eating meat. Prior to becoming co CEO of PETA, Ingrid had been studying to become a stockbroker. Her neighbor had abandoned some

How Did David Newkirk Protect Animals
Savior of Animals: Ingrid Newkirk Animals have lives that humans should not corrupt. That is the ideal mindset of many animal rights activists
especially in the mind of Ingrid Newkirk. Ingrid Newkirk is the founder of PETA (People for the Ethical treatment of Animals); this organization
has saved millions of animals. Ingrid Newkirk made a positive difference in the world by sacrificing her own dignity to prove her point. She wants
to help protect animals but many people also view her as a terrible person for this advocacy. Ingrid sacrificed her own dignity to prove her point. At
times, she did this by dressing herself up as something abnormal to get everyone's attention. "Newkirk planned to join [a party] dressed as a condom"
(Rosenberg 9). This example demonstrates that she would dress up as something bizarre just to prove PETA's intentions. Dressing up is... Show more

PETA members took photographs of monkeys going through terrible tests at the Institute of Behavioral Research, which led to PETA, raiding these
lab(s) (Hampson 3). PETA was influenced and encouraged to save the monkeys by Newkirk. PETA saved lab animals, abused animals and homeless
animals and provided them protection and homes. PETA eventually bought a lot of land, which is home to over 150 animals where they now live
and thrive (Rosenberg 1). If Newkirk did not advocate, rescue and care for these animals, all of them would have succumbed to major injury or death.

Animal Experimentation Is Unnecessary and Cruel Essay
Every year, millions of animals suffer through painful and unnecessary tests. Animals in laboratories all over the world live lives of deprivation, pain,
isolation, and torture. Even though vast studies show that animal experimentation often lacks validity, leading to harmful human reactions, we still
continue to use this method of experimentation, while many other less–expensive and more beneficial alternatives exist. Going beyond the issue of
animal experimentation being morally wrong, this form of research is also hindering medical progress. Although the use of animals in laboratories is
said to be necessary for the welfare and health of humans, people mistakenly believe that this immoral and unscientific method of experimentation is...

Because of differences in animal and human anatomies, they respond to drugs in different ways, proving test results done on animals to be inaccurate
when applied to humans. For this reason, animal experimentation has done little to produce any definitive advances in medical research and has actually
hindered medical progress. In addition to the fact that animal experimentation is ineffective, unreliable, and costly, testing on animals also violates
animal rights. Do we think that just because we are superior to animals that we have the right to subject these innocent creatures to cruel and painful
experiments? The superiority humans feel over animals may be the reason why humans feel less troubled by inflicting pain on animals. Or perhaps
humans justify this cruel act by saying that animals would not be used in experiments if their use was not absolutely necessary. The pain and misery
these animals are put through is absolutely unjustified, especially since the experiments they are subject to are proven to be unnecessary and even
pointless. As Ingrid Newkirk states, animals in the laboratories are "under constant stress from fear, the loss of control over their lives, and the denial

Mise-En-Scene in Casablanca
This paper will discuss various elements of mise–en–scene, specifically; character development, lighting, performance, costume, makeup in the film
"Casablanca".(Michael Curtiz,1942) The setting of the story sets the tone for the entire film. Shots of tanks and planes show the violence of war that
coincides with the cutthroat city that is Casablanca. From there, those sentiments are reinforced when a man is shot in the street while another man
pick pockets someone whom is distracted. The mood of the movie stays on the dark side of things when we enter Rick's CafГ©, where we meet our
protagonist played by Humphrey Bogart. In this scene we are treated to the jaded portrayal of night club owner. We see his utter disregard for a French

Here's someone whom the audience finds out has torn this man to pieces and she receives a fill light that removes the shadows on her face, making
her skin appear perfectly smooth. The back light provides a halo effect, reinforcing her portrayal as an innocent, sympathetic, even tortured woman.
Although Ilsa has betrayed Rick, her depiction as a compassionate, almost angelic figure complicates the audience's interpretation of her character. In
contrast, Rick's lighting creates an exhausted image of the older night club owner. His key light casts shadows which emphasize wrinkles. This
wearied picture of, complicates the relationship between Ilsa and Rick. Clearly Ilsa, who has wronged Rick, sympathizes and wants to reach out to
him. However, her relationship with Lazlo precludes the possibility of Ilsa consummating her love for Rick. Thus, the lighting places a difference
between Rick, a pathetic bachelor, and Ilsa, the innocent, angelic lady. The characters posses qualities that are both acceptable, however in this
particular instance it's easy to believe that the audience still is glued to Rick and isn't fooled by the angelic portrayal of Ingrid Bergman's Ilsa. In this
scene the performance is based on a particular delivery and facial expressions of that of one emoting to channel tension, anger and regret.

Analysis Of The Film Notorious
Any avid Hitchcock fan has undoubtedly seen the film Notorious. Notorious tells the story of Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman) who gets recruited by
government agent Devlin(Cary Grant) to infiltrate the house of known nazi supporters in the hopes of uncovering their master plan. At the end of the
movie, the final shot is Alexander Sebastian(Claude Rains) walking back to his group of nazi supporters, denoting his demise is soon to follow.
However, what the film doesn't show is what will happen with the relationship between Devlin and Alicia, which fluctuates throughout the movie. This
uncertainty has been under constant debate among viewers as to whether or not these lovers were meant to last, or if the love for each other will soon
fade. While some people believe their love will not last since the they are polar opposites of each other and through some cinematic choices in the
film, such as the long kiss they share in the beginning of the movie, I believe that by looking at the narrative structure of their relationship, as well as
cinematic choices in relation to the development of the plot, you can see that their love is indeed, meant to last.
In all conventional films, there is a cinematic formula most pictures live by. All conventional film follows a three act structure; The first act being an
introduction of characters and conflict, the second act is when the complications arise, causing there to be a setback or additional decision, and
ultimately the third act, where

While the tigers are jumping through hoops of fire, the elephants are being prepared to go out into the center ring. The audience is going wild and the

In the case of Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman), her father's prison sentence leaves her skeptical of others, yet longing for a new companion in her

3. How would you describe the mood or tone of the film in visual terms?
Alfred Hitchcock incorporates multiple instances of point of view editing and cross–cutting to explore man's intimate feeling of helplessness. He
accomplishes this task by creating tense situations in which the viewer is more informed than the characters. However, the viewer's omniscient range
of narration is stifled by several occurrences of perceptual subjectivity, creating a momentary feeling of helplessness within the viewer. The first takes
place after Alicia (Ingrid Bergman) has consumed a large amount of alcohol and has decided to drive a car with Devlin (Cary Grant). At first, the
camera is stationary and the car is seen rapidly approaching and swerving from a distance. The next shot is from the hood of the car and has both
Alicia and Devlin within the frame. It is clear that Alicia is not fit to drive, but the stationary camera does not evoke an immediate response of fear.
Hitchcock understands that the scene could be more terrifying and has Alicia bluntly ask Devlin if he is "scared". Furthermore, Hitchcock is having
Alicia ask the viewer if he is scared and follows up the direct line with a point of view shot from Alicia. It is only during this shot from the view of a
drunken driver, along with masking the camera with uncontrolled hair

History Of PETA: People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) was founded as a non
–profit organization in 1980 by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco (PETA
np). They first gained attention during the Silver Spring monkeys case, when Alex Pacheco, then a student at George Washington University,
volunteered at a lab conducted by Edward Taub, who was testing neuroplasticity on monkeys. Taub had cut sensory ganglia (a nerve cell cluster) that
supplied nerves to the monkeys' fingers, hands, arms, legs; with some of the monkeys, he had severed the entire spinal column (Carlson np). He then
tried to force the monkeys to use their limbs by exposing them to persistent electric shock, prolonged physical restraint of an intact arm or leg, and by
starving them (Carlson np). The idea behind this experiment was to see if monkeys could be induced to use limbs they could not feel.... Show more

Ingrid Newkirk was also involved by laying crouched in the back seat of a car outside, hidden under a large cardboard box with holes for her eyes,
using a walkie–talkie from a toy store to alert Pacheco if anyone else entered the building (Carlson np). The monkeys' living conditions documented by
Pacheco were graphically disturbing. Having collected the evidence, Newkirk and Pacheco alerted the police, who raided the lab, removed the
monkeys, and charged Taub with 113 counts of cruelty to animals and six counts of failing to provide adequate veterinary care (Carlson np). Although
Taub's convictions were later overturned on appeal and the monkeys were eventually euthanized. Nevertheless, an organization named PETA was

Peta And Ethics
The subject of my documentary film will be based on an American interest group called PETA. PETA stands for "people for the ethical treatment of
animals", it is an organization that stands against animal testing and abuse. Founded March 1980 by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco, PETA's motto
remains to be "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way." This interest group's strong opposing
stance on anything related to the animal usage norm or cruelty in our country, gives members of society a simple reason to support them: "since PETA

extreme, citizens of society should begin mailing their thoughts to its headquarters in Norfolk, VA. In the end, it seems the whole of PETA will not be

the constant controversy pulls, hypocritical acts, and ads that are created to intentionally rub the wrong way with most of society or even their own

A Short Story : A Story?
In a sewer line beneath a neighborhood street, Walther stopped at a non–descript wall. His sudden change aroused Chandler's curiosity. "So this is the
place, right?"
"Ja, the 'entrance' to the secret basement beneath the State Chancellor's house," Walther said. "A part of the wall is not made of concrete, but wood."
He pointed at a ten foot wide gap on the bottom of the wall. The gap appeared large enough to fit someone's hand without it touching the floor.
"Aha," Chandler figured. "Let me help you."
Pulling back the fake wall revealed a metal door. Walther opened it. "Go inside," he beckoned. "I'll close the fake wall."
To his amazement, Chandler encountered a spacious basement. Well–lit and filled with empty tables, the discovery was surreal for him. "How could
such a place even exist?"
"How should I know?" Walther answered.
A boy wearing a three–piece suit spoke to Chandler and Walther. "Guten Morgen," he greeted with a German accent. "I am amerchant affiliated with
the Remnants' Merchant of Prague. We provide armaments and other hardware to RGA and Remnants soldiers."
Chandler turned to Walther. "What's this about?"
"Remember those MAFVs from Redemption?" Walther reminded Chandler. "As promised, I had allocated them to your Group's parent formation."
"Thank you, sir," Chandler smiled. "But how many did we seize?"
"About two hundred fifty," Walther recalled. "All of them are IDA manufacture and in pristine condition. Adelbu mechanics made no modifications
while they were stored at our own motor pools."
The arms merchant addressed Chandler. "Shall we begin with the inventory and the available modifications?"
"Yes," Chandler answered.
Directing Chandler and Walther to a nearby table, the merchant showed them a catalogue entitled, "The Merchant of Prague." The pages were rife
with pictures, descriptions and prices of military hardware. From weapons to vehicles, the catalogue carried a wide selection. He turned the pages to a
section on IDA MAFVs.
"Are these the same ones from Redemption?" Chandler asked Walther.
"Korrekt," Walther replied.

something that is causing harm to these animals and needs to be stopped. These "wild" animals are still animals, animals that have feelings, ones

People that think these animals were meant to do this kind of stuff, that this is why they are bred, why they are even here. Even places such as zoos,
they consider being important, even if a lot of us totally disagree on that matter.
Konwiser was a zoo keeper who was killed by a Malayan tiger. This animal was in confinement, something animals should not be in, especially wild
animals. You never know when one of those animals are going to strike, they are wild animals, we don't know about the behavior of wild animals as
well as we do with animals that we have as pets. "'Animals in confinement are like ticking time bombs,' Carney Anna Nasser, a senior counsel with the

Granted, a lot of these animals are born in captivity and wouldn't be able to survive on their own. That also means that their parents were taken out
of the wild and put into captivity, or that they are breeding these animals. Which is also a very bad thing for these poor animals. "For starters, Hanna
said that "98 percent" of animals kept at more than 200 zoos across the United States were born in captivity and would find it impossible to live on
their own. "They don't come from the wild," Hanna said." (Milian

Arguments Against Animal Euthanasia
On an average year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized in the United States ("Pet Statistics"). Being that animal euthanasia is a
horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal
euthanasia has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is suffering. Killing an animal because
they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs, that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new
loving home. We, as human beings, should not be killing innocent animals.
Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. According to an article called, "Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia",
"euthanasia is a sad reality caused by people who abandon animals, refuse to sterilize their animals, and patronize pet shops and breeders instead of
adopting stray animals or animals from animal shelters" ("Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia"). In a lot of cases, animals have been abandoned
by their owners. This may be because the owner does not want to get them spayed or neutered and the animal keeps reproducing, ... Show more content

Animal Rights And The Ethical Treatment Of Animals
When we eat our food everyday or go shopping for products such as makeup or clothing we generally don't bother to think about where it came from
or how exactly it was made. However when it comes to it there's a lot that goes into the food or products we consume and buy especially when it

Endurance running is a rewarding experience that puts to test an athlete's courage, perseverance and determination. It is a marvelous wonder how the

in Hobson 2007). Dr. Siegel, a marathon runner himself, has studied two phenomena that occurred in marathons that have killed a number of people.
Dr. Siegel conducted tests on 60 marathoners, before and after the race. 40 percent of the runners showed evidence of heart damage, although it is
important to note that the damage was reversed within days. Another interesting find was that out of the 40 percent who showed damage, the runners
with the least amount of training showed the most damage (Hobson 2007). This highlights the importance of proper conditioning during the training

Although the risk of a heart attack is real, the percentage of fatalities is very low. Data compiled from the Race Associated Cardiac Arrest Event

many of the runners in the RACER study group had a preexisting cardiac abnormality that could have been detected before the event. Dr. Krumholz
suggests that participants in these events have a cardiac examination by a physician (2012). Minimizing the risk, or even eliminating it, can be as

In Buddhism, one of the most important concepts is ahimsa, the basic principle of refraining from the destruction of life. Roughly about 10% of the
world's population practices Buddhism, which converts to just over 500 million in the world, according to a BBC archive. In Islam, particular animal
rights were recognized by the Sharia (Islamic Law). The prophet of Islam, Muhammad had a distinctive set of rules that his followers had to obey, and
some of them were related to animal's rights to where he forbade his followers to intentionally harm any animal. According to a study in 2015, about
24% of the world's population practices Islam, which converts to about 1.8 billion people. All over the world, there are groups of people, who believe
in the idea of animal rights and that animals deserve some sort of moral status, but there is very little legislation concerning animal rights or
enforcement of these very few laws. Indeed, we are different from animals, but that does not mean we are necessarily superior to animals and should
give them little to no rights or not treat them with the respect they deserve. Throughout most of history, even though there have been some groups that
believe in animal rights and equality, most always have believed that animals are inferior to us. One of the reasons this is can be traced back to
Christianity. In the Bible, specifically in Genesis, God said," Let us make human beings in our image, after our likeness, to have dominion over the fish

be better off using a more conventional strategy to get its message heard rather than their provocative imagery of shock tactics. PETA's message has a
way of getting lost in the mayhem they like to create. Occasionally, it can be difficult to see the reasoning behind most of PETA's ads that are
presented to audiences.
PETA has developed a brand that is on the fringe. Whether through their racy and uncensored advertisements– using sex, graphic images or exploiting
tragic news events, it's all meant to grab your attention. According to founder of The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,Ingrid Newkirk,
PETA prides themselves on their "colorful and controversial gimmicks–such as jumping on stage at a fashion show to protest a designer's promotion of
fur–both consistently and certainly grab more headlines, thus bringing the animal rights message to audiences around the country and often the world"
(PETA.org). Newkirk herself states that extremism and outrage provide the fuel for PETA. She feels PETA would be worthless if they were "just

  • 1. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals ( Peta ) Is A... People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) is a non –profit animal activist group that focuses explicitly on exposing animal brutality and ensuring the safety of all animals. PETA promises to protect animals from misconduct, abuse, brutality, and inhumane slaughtering. The activist group's official motto is, '' Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way''(PETA). This motto officially means that animals are not ours to use or cause essential harm to by no means necessary. PETA was created in March of 1980, after founders, Alex Pacheco and Ingrid Newkirk were inspired by Peter Sanger's book ''Animal Liberation''; which Ingrid Newkirk has said the book gave her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The organization's first protest was at a chicken slaughterhouse at The Arrow Live Poultry Company in Washington D.C. This protest was planned after witnesses saw the chickens being treated and mishandled. In an article written by Hank Burchard for ''The Washington Post'', he writes about the protests and the protesters reasoning's: 'A PETA spokesman damns the Arrow people for handling chickens "like furniture" and callously binding the wings and legs of a bird ready for slaughter "in front of all the other chickens'' (8). This protest was a small step for ensuring the rights of animals, but eventually led to larger movements. After small protests and acknowledgements, nearly a year later, PETA fought the largest case of its history. This case is now known as, The Silver Spring Case of 1981. The Silver Spring Case: The Discovery The Silver Spring case of 1981 was case that brought monkeys justice, PETA national attention and recognition by the U.S Supreme Court for their efforts in insuring justice. When Alex Pacheco was nearly finishing his '' .... third year as a political science and environmental studies major at George Washington University'' he began searching for work (3). • 2. Film Analysis Of Casablanca With the threat of Nazis in Europe, many people flee to a nightclub in Casablanca to acquire illegal letters that'll allow them to escape to America. The film, Casablanca, takes place during World War II and is about an American expatriate, Rick, who must make the choice of whether or not to help out his former lover, Ilsa, and her husband flee to neutral Portugal by giving them transit letters that are deemed priceless by many refugees. Casablanca stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund. The film was made in 1942 and was directed by Michael Curtiz, and produced by Hal B. Wallis. The film is rated PG, and is a romantic drama type of film. Rick owns a nightclub and restaurant called "Rick's CafГ© AmГ©ricain" that attracts many refugees looking for priceless transit letters. One of Rick's regulars, a crook by the name of Ugarte asks Rick to hold on to some transit letters that he acquired from two murdered German messengers that allow the person to travel to neutral Portugal. Ugarte had planned to sell the letters at the club but he couldn't because he was arrested for killing the messengers and dies being the only one who knows Rick has the letters. Rick finds out that his former lover, Ilsa is in town with her husband who was supposed to buy the letters from Ugarte, but now has to find an alternative. This all leads to a tough challenge for Rick that brings him heartbreak and an extremely difficult decision to make. The film is based on Joan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Muscular Dystrophy: A Wasted Life A Wasted Life Picture this, a puppy only bred to suffer. At TAMU Laboratories golden retrievers as well as other breeds of dogs are bred with Muscular Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy is a muscular disease. Some symptoms of muscular dystrophy are loss of muscle mass, limb deformity, difficulty swallowing, and excessive drooling. Walking from one side to the other side of their cages began to feel like climbing a mountain as their muscles become weaker and weaker. The tongues of the dogs will swell so large that choking and dying is very feasible. They are fed a thin, watery gruel. Dogs spend many years behind bars, maybe even their entire lives. The community needs to put an end to animal testing, and prevent other animals from ever having to misspend their lives at laboratories. It all started at Texas A&M University. Joe Kornegay, has been using public funds for the past 35 years to breed dogs with the painful, crippling disease, MD (Muscular Dystrophy). Danica is one of the many dogs who have had to suffer in Texas A&M University. She was a black retriever and it was not long after she was born that MD took over her body. By the time Danica was 7 months old she was not able to sit up properly. She was too feeble to even stand up, or open her jaw. A chain of excessive saliva leaked from her mouth. Danica would vomit blood, had labored breathing, and had an irregular heart rhythm. She was born at the University of North Carolina, when she was 3 she was transported to ... The interest group that I will discuss in this paper is the one of the most well–known animal rights groups in the world; People for the ethical treatment of animals, commonly known as, PETA. Founded in March 1980 by Newkirk and fellowanimal rights activist Alex Pacheco, the organization first caught the public's attention in the summer of 1981 during what became known as the Silver Spring monkeys case, a widely publicized dispute about experiments conducted on 17 macaque monkeys inside the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. The group first came to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Newkirk told Salon in 2001 that PETA works toward the ideal, but tries in the meantime to provide carrot–and–stick incentives. There has also been criticism from feminists within the movement about the use of scantily clad women in PETA's anti–fur campaigns, and criticism in general that the group's media stunts trivialize animal rights. Newkirk's view is that PETA has a duty to be "press sluts". Outside the movement, the confrontational nature of PETA's campaigns has caused concern, as has the estimated 85% of animals it euthanizes. PETA was further criticized in 2005 by United States Senator Jim Inhofe for having given grants several years earlier to Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and Earth Liberation Front (ELF) activists, two groups that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified as agents of domestic terrorism. PETA responded that it has no involvement in ALF or ELF actions and does not support violence, though Newkirk has elsewhere made clear that she supports the removal of animals from laboratories and other facilities, including as a result of illegal direct action, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 2010). For PETA, the only permissible skin to show is human. Partially clad members of the organization participated in a protest alongside Clendenin

The organization was founded in 1937 as the Orlando Humane Society, and later became the SPCA of Central Florida in 2001. This is how I imagine PETA and its followers when they wrote their most recent article about the FFA and their views about it. • 8. Peta Animal Rights PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is the largest organization in the world that fights against animal cruelty. Their main objective is to end animal cruelty by banning any and all industries where animals suffer the most. Animals are not only used in the food industry, but in many others as well; clothing, experimentation and entertainment. PETA believes that animals' lives are just as important as any human being's life. They encourage vegetarianism by inspiring others to believe that animals have thoughts and feelings just as humans do, therefore implying that animals should be treated like humans. They post videos and other links supporting their fight for animal rights and give examples and stories of how animals are abused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They use heartrending photos, harsh language and pitiful videos to stimulate a readers emotions. PETA is constantly comparing animals to humans, thus making it difficult not to cringe when the different kinds of animal abuse are discussed. In an article on PETA's website, "Why Animal Rights?", PETA's founder Ingrid Newkirk said "When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness, and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each one values his or her life and fights the knife." Ingrid is comparing humans to animals saying we all have the same thoughts, feelings and emotions especially when it comes to abuse. When talking about these harsh conditions PETA will make the reader feel guilty by saying things like "humans do this" and "humans do that" and posing the question of "would you do this" or "would you do that". They ask "If you wouldn't eat a dog, why eat a pig?", making bacon lovers feel guilty for eating bacon. Cruel and inhumane experiments like this one is an excellent reason why people should recognize the importance of animal right activist groups such as PETA (People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Founded in 1980 by Ingrid E. Newkirk and Alex Pacheco, PETA is the largest group in the world with 600,000 plus members. PETA also discovered that only twenty –three out of fifty–four dogs slated for cancer experiments at the City of Hope, a federally funded laboratory, survived long enough for the actual experiment to begin. The rest died of infections, poisoning, anesthesia overdose, and other causes linked to gross negligence, inadequate veterinary care, and improper housing. Such abuse acts on animals are inhumane and absolutely unnecessary. With PETA's protection, animals can live freely without being subjected to researchers invasive and hostile terrorists like acts. Laboratory experiments are not the only place where unethical treatment of animals takes place. In the business of fur trading many animals are tormented and killed ruthlessly. In one of PETA's precedent–setting cases, a California furrier was charged with cruelty after a PETA investigator filmed him electrocuting chinchillas by clipping wires to the animals' genitals. • 10. PETA: Ingrid Newkirk's Fight For Animal Rights Back then, there were no such organizations similar to PETA who would fight for animal rights. The only things a person can do if they wanted to provide for animals are donating money to a community or volunteering at a nearby animal shelter. It was in 1980 when PETA officially started for the first time to protest against chicken slaughter (PETA). PETA is still an active group and they're probably way bigger than they were when they started. The person the started it all and is still in control of PETA is Ingrid Newkirk. I would say that Newkirk is pretty much an extremist and to show how much she supports animal rights, she believes the way that the only way to show that is by being a vegan, not wearing any kind of furs because wearing furs ... Roussel's perspective comes from the perspective of a farmer. The reason being that I found Roussel's argument to be the most convincing is because she explained why animals are important and was reasonable in regards to both perspectives, vegan and non–vegan. She openly admits that society cannot function without animals, and therefore a balance needs to be made between farmers and their land and the number of animals that are eaten. Animals are not just used for meaat, but also fertilization for growing vegetables. Roussel states that the animals and farmer cannot survive without each other. I really appreciated ... All of the struggles are depicted successfully in Stitches which are overwhelmed with silences and secrets via an interesting form of literature: comic book. The Stitches is a memoir by David Small about the life of himself since he was a child. • 13. Should Animals Deserve Rights? Animals Deserve Rights Rayvin Scott Azusa Pacific University, University College "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; The Declaration of Independence holds these rights to be self–evident and unalienable. In the eighteenth century when these words were written they were called natural rights, today we call them human rights" (McShea 34). The issue of whether or not to grant animal rights such as those that humans retain, is a greatly disputed issue. Philosophers, clergyman, and politicians have argued the point of animal rights for years, but without success. Animal right is an extremely intricate issue that involves the question of animal intelligence, animal activist groups, and the pros and cons of granting animals their rights. Animals deserves rights just as humans because they have the same abilities that we have. In order for humans to function in daily life with confidence rights must be set in stone for humans to remain secure. Knowing this, animals should have a firm list of law to protect them as they participate in their daily life activities. Psychologists around the world, who have studied nonhuman primates, argue that these animals possess the capacity to communicate. They go on to explain that a communication barrier is all that separates humans from animals. If they bridged that barrier, then humans could talk with animals. For example, they are forcing rats and mice to inhale toxic fumes, force–feeding dogs with pesticides, and dripping corrosive chemicals into rabbits sensitive eyes. Most animals are defenseless and haven't done anything wrong and we humans have the ability to treat them kindly and help those animals who are being tested on and being hunted down one by one for their fur, tusks, skin, feathers, or just as trophies, etc. I choose the Silver Spring Monkey case because as I was reading about it and looking at pictures of the terrible conditions of them I knew that I had to write about it. I feel very strongly about animals I don't like to see them mistreated it breaks my heart and even though I wish I could do more about all those animals who unfortunately haven't had a very fortunate life and have suffered greatly; I will continue to take surveys for them and do whatever I can to help. The Silver Spring monkeys were 17 wild–born macaque monkeys from the Philippines who were kept in the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. In the summer of 1981, one of PETA's founders, a student named Alex Pacheco, set out to gain some experience in a laboratory and began working undercover at the Institute for Behavioral Research (IBR). IBR was a federally funded laboratory run by psychologist and animal experimenter Edward Taub, a man with no medical training. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and war. DirectorRoberto Rossellini's created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater impact to this story. Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I've never watched a foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was going on. For me it's incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies here not in the US can't even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren't that amazing I feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i'd love it even more. The film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti–Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco's fiancГ©e, the Pina is involved in the struggle as well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city from getting enough to eat. The added hormones, and steroids to get the animals through the harsh conditions, are being eaten by people as well. Most factory farms are trying to get as much bang for their buck. The more animals they give to the companies that process the meat, the more money they get in return. So the strategy is to fit as many animals as possible into the barns. No matter if the animals have ventilation or even room to walk. A few animals will die before they even come to take them away. The animals over the years have been genetically modified so that they are bigger. The bigger the animal the more meat that is produced. Founded March 1980 by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco, PETA's motto remains to be "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way." This interest group's strong opposing stance on anything related to the animal usage norm or cruelty in our country, gives members of society a simple reason to support them: "since PETA stands against the mistreatment of animals they must be good." I have chosen to document this particular subject matter because of the interesting ways PETA... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course an average person would be against animal cruelty, but would this individual subscribe to PETA? With so much controversy around this "do–good" organization, it actually has created a 50/50 audience for PETA. In order to tell PETA to stop acts that seem hypocritical or honestly a bit extreme, citizens of society should begin mailing their thoughts to its headquarters in Norfolk, VA. In the end, it seems the whole of PETA will not be stopped anytime soon because of the good intentions this company actually has. The only complications that need to be eliminated from this group are the constant controversy pulls, hypocritical acts, and ads that are created to intentionally rub the wrong way with most of society or even their own supporters. Writing PETA or even physically going down to their headquarters to confront them may be of help for this interest group to finally "behave" like a company that only wants to spread a simple message of stopping the mistreatment of ... • 31. Animal Testing Is Unnecessary Imagine yourself trapped in a cage, engulfed by darkness, the feeling of dread the only thing standing by your side. Every day you tremble in fear of what new twist those lab coats have in store for you. You lost your faith that you will be saved long ago and that your destiny is to die in this forsaken cage. This is what animals used for experimentation go through on almost daily. Throughout the last few centuries, millions of animals have undergone many cruel and stress inducing tests and experiments. Nowadays, many studies show that using animals for testing is unnecessary and that scientists should not have any real need for it. In this paper, I will show how the use of animals in labs is unnecessary by explaining the history of experimentation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The monkeys were in bad shape. • 33. A Short Story : A Story? In a sewer line beneath a neighborhood street, Walther stopped at a non–descript wall. His sudden change aroused Chandler's curiosity. "So this is the place, right?" "Ja, the 'entrance' to the secret basement beneath the State Chancellor's house," Walther said. "A part of the wall is not made of concrete, but wood." He pointed at a ten foot wide gap on the bottom of the wall. The gap appeared large enough to fit someone's hand without it touching the floor. "Aha," Chandler figured. "Let me help you." Pulling back the fake wall revealed a metal door. Walther opened it. "Go inside," he beckoned. "I'll close the fake wall." To his amazement, Chandler encountered a spacious basement. Well–lit and filled with empty tables, the discovery was surreal for him. "How could such a place even exist?" "How should I know?" Walther answered. A boy wearing a three–piece suit spoke to Chandler and Walther. "Guten Morgen," he greeted with a German accent. "I am amerchant affiliated with the Remnants' Merchant of Prague. We provide armaments and other hardware to RGA and Remnants soldiers." Chandler turned to Walther. "What's this about?" "Remember those MAFVs from Redemption?" Walther reminded Chandler. "As promised, I had allocated them to your Group's parent formation." "Thank you, sir," Chandler smiled. "But how many did we seize?" "About two hundred fifty," Walther recalled. "All of them are IDA manufacture and in pristine condition. Adelbu mechanics made no modifications while they were stored at our own motor pools." The arms merchant addressed Chandler. "Shall we begin with the inventory and the available modifications?" "Yes," Chandler answered. Directing Chandler and Walther to a nearby table, the merchant showed them a catalogue entitled, "The Merchant of Prague." The pages were rife with pictures, descriptions and prices of military hardware. From weapons to vehicles, the catalogue carried a wide selection. He turned the pages to a section on IDA MAFVs. "Are these the same ones from Redemption?" Chandler asked Walther. "Korrekt," Walther replied. "Herr Martinsen," the merchant told him, "Like the other Great Powers, their MAFV designations are named after a certain Catholic saint. For them, it's St. Ingrid

The famous and popular Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid play the complex love triangle that leads the film to the stories purpose and theme. The German general quickly changes the subject. Renault's and Rick's friendship is where the small town humor occurs, another example displaying the audiences sympathetic views. • 36. How To Stop Animal Cruelty Persuasive Essay Animal Cruelty is becoming a very large problem that needs to be taken care of. Animal Cruelty is largely in certain "activities", such as circuses, dog shows, dog fighting, and even zoos. Although people find this to be entertaining, interesting, and something out of the ordinary, it is still something that is causing harm to these animals and needs to be stopped. These "wild" animals are still animals, animals that have feelings, ones that don't deserve to be tortured. How would you feel if someone locked you in a cage for the rest of your life, forced you to perform in front of crowds, whacked you when you weren't doing what you were supposed to, hit you when you messed up? People that think these animals were meant to do this kind of stuff, that this is why they are bred, why they are even here. Even places such as zoos, they consider being important, even if a lot of us totally disagree on that matter. Konwiser was a zoo keeper who was killed by a Malayan tiger. This animal was in confinement, something animals should not be in, especially wild animals. You never know when one of those animals are going to strike, they are wild animals, we don't know about the behavior of wild animals as well as we do with animals that we have as pets. "'Animals in confinement are like ticking time bombs,' Carney Anna Nasser, a senior counsel with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, told The Post hours after Konwiser died." (Milian Jorge) Granted, a lot of these animals are born in captivity and wouldn't be able to survive on their own. That also means that their parents were taken out of the wild and put into captivity, or that they are breeding these animals. Which is also a very bad thing for these poor animals. "For starters, Hanna said that "98 percent" of animals kept at more than 200 zoos across the United States were born in captivity and would find it impossible to live on their own. "They don't come from the wild," Hanna said." (Milian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Arguments Against Animal Euthanasia On an average year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized in the United States ("Pet Statistics"). Being that animal euthanasia is a horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal euthanasia has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is suffering. Killing an animal because they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs, that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new loving home. We, as human beings, should not be killing innocent animals. Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. According to an article called, "Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia", "euthanasia is a sad reality caused by people who abandon animals, refuse to sterilize their animals, and patronize pet shops and breeders instead of adopting stray animals or animals from animal shelters" ("Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia"). In a lot of cases, animals have been abandoned by their owners. This may be because the owner does not want to get them spayed or neutered and the animal keeps reproducing, ... Animal Rights And The Ethical Treatment Of Animals When we eat our food everyday or go shopping for products such as makeup or clothing we generally don't bother to think about where it came from or how exactly it was made. However when it comes to it there's a lot that goes into the food or products we consume and buy especially when it comes to the treatment of animals. The group PETA which stands forPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animalsis know as the largest animal rights group in the world. With an estimated three million members and supporters the organization believes that " Animals are not ours to eat. Wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way" and fights to protects those rights of animals (PETA). PETA was founded in March 1980 by animal rights activist Alex Pacheco and Ingrid Newkirk. The organization first became known in May 1981 during the Silver Springs Monkeys case. The case involved seventeen wild monkeys that were born in the Philippines and brought to the United States and kept in Silver Spring Maryland at the Institute of Behavioral Research. A psychologist named Edward Taub used the monkeys for research (Wikipedia). During this time Alex Pacheco began working undercover at the Institute to gain more experience working in a laboratory like setting. While he was working there he started to notice the abuse and mistreatment the monkeys were enduring. He began to gather evidence and photos of the monkeys in horrendous conditions such as the tiny cages they were living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conquering Endurance Running: Minimizing Risk and Running Injury Free Endurance running is a rewarding experience that puts to test an athlete's courage, perseverance and determination. It is a marvelous wonder how the human body, with the proper conditioning and mental focus, could achieve such tasking running distance. Elite runners complete the marathon course in just over 2 hours, while the average runner completes it in about 4.5 hours. It's difficult to comprehend how someone could run, consistently, for 4.5 hours. The actual marathon is simply a formality as the journey starts the day training begins. Dr. Siegel, a marathon runner himself, has studied two phenomena that occurred in marathons that have killed a number of people. Dr. Siegel conducted tests on 60 marathoners, before and after the race. 40 percent of the runners showed evidence of heart damage, although it is important to note that the damage was reversed within days. Another interesting find was that out of the 40 percent who showed damage, the runners with the least amount of training showed the most damage (Hobson 2007). This highlights the importance of proper conditioning during the training phase of the marathon. Although the risk of a heart attack is real, the percentage of fatalities is very low. Data compiled from the Race Associated Cardiac Arrest Event Registry (RACER), show that 1 out of 259,000 participants fell victim to sudden death during a marathon. As outlined in the 2012 RACER study, 42 runners out of the 11 million registered in the database, died as a result of a heart attack. (qtd. in Krumholz 2012). Dr. Krumholz further points out that many of the runners in the RACER study group had a preexisting cardiac abnormality that could have been detected before the event. Dr. Krumholz suggests that participants in these events have a cardiac examination by a physician (2012). Minimizing the risk, or even eliminating it, can be as simple as an initial doctor's checkup and regular annual visits. This is the reason why all marathon events encourage runners to be ... A Discussion on Animal Rights Essay A Discussion on Animal Rights "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; The Declaration of Independence holds these rights to be self evident and unalienable. • 41. Persuasive Essay On Animal Rights In Buddhism, one of the most important concepts is ahimsa, the basic principle of refraining from the destruction of life. Roughly about 10% of the world's population practices Buddhism, which converts to just over 500 million in the world, according to a BBC archive. In Islam, particular animal rights were recognized by the Sharia (Islamic Law). The prophet of Islam, Muhammad had a distinctive set of rules that his followers had to obey, and some of them were related to animal's rights to where he forbade his followers to intentionally harm any animal. According to a study in 2015, about 24% of the world's population practices Islam, which converts to about 1.8 billion people. All over the world, there are groups of people, who believe in the idea of animal rights and that animals deserve some sort of moral status, but there is very little legislation concerning animal rights or enforcement of these very few laws. Indeed, we are different from animals, but that does not mean we are necessarily superior to animals and should give them little to no rights or not treat them with the respect they deserve. Throughout most of history, even though there have been some groups that believe in animal rights and equality, most always have believed that animals are inferior to us. One of the reasons this is can be traced back to Christianity. In the Bible, specifically in Genesis, God said," Let us make human beings in our image, after our likeness, to have dominion over the fish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But for me, I've known I wanted to be a marketing major for as long as I can remember. Marketing involves specializing in the best way of promoting a product to consumers. Consequently, one would ponder that I would support a nonprofit organization such as The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA). However, that is not the case. I believe that PETA would be better off using a more conventional strategy to get its message heard rather than their provocative imagery of shock tactics. PETA's message has a way of getting lost in the mayhem they like to create. Occasionally, it can be difficult to see the reasoning behind most of PETA's ads that are presented to audiences. PETA has developed a brand that is on the fringe. Whether through their racy and uncensored advertisements– using sex, graphic images or exploiting tragic news events, it's all meant to grab your attention. According to founder of The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,Ingrid Newkirk, PETA prides themselves on their "colorful and controversial gimmicks–such as jumping on stage at a fashion show to protest a designer's promotion of fur–both consistently and certainly grab more headlines, thus bringing the animal rights message to audiences around the country and often the world" (PETA.org). Newkirk herself states that extremism and outrage provide the fuel for PETA. She feels PETA would be worthless if they were "just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
