Christmas traditions in italy

2. Christmas season usually begins on
the 8th of December, the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception.
We decorate a Christmas tree with
baubles, lights and other ornaments
and we make a Nativity scene with
Baby Jesus, St. Mary, St. Joseph, a
donkey, an ox, shepherds, sheep,
angels, a Christmas star and the
Three Wise Men with camels.
3. On Christmas Eve we don’t eat
meat but we cook fish and
many types of pasta with
seafood.
On Christmas Day we have a
big lunch and we eat : pasta,
chicken or lamb with
vegetables.

Christmas season ends on the
6th of January (Epiphany)
when we celebrate “La
Befana”. La Befana is an ugly,
old witch with a pointed nose
and dressed in shabby clothes.
She rides a broomstick and
brings good children gifts and
sweets, while naughty
children get “coal” (coal-
shaped sweets)
