Essay On Social Interaction
Introduction Social interaction with others shapes our lives and teaches us to be who we are. We
learn how to talk through one–sided conversations between us and our mom and dad. We learn right
from wrong by making mistakes or acting out and being reprimanded if those actions don't
represent the norms of our society. We learn through talking with others how to voice our own
wants, needs, thoughts, and opinions. Our ability to interact with others can be a core strength for
some people, but this is a daily struggle for others. Some individuals don't have this skill to utilize.
Social interaction is so important to us, that we are unaware that this is a privilege for us to possess.
Having the ability to communicate with others freely,...show more content...
Intellectual Disabilities and Social Skills An intellectual disability is characterized by "significant
limitations in both intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior" (American Association on
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, 2017). Capacities such as reasoning and problem
solving are mildly to severely insufficient in relation to standards set in place. This leads to
difficulties learning in general curriculum classrooms with no accommodations or modifications to
the material provided. There is also an absence of conceptual, social, and practical skills. About
seventy–five percent of people with intellectual disabilities have demonstrated a lack of social
skills. Social skills are "behaviors that allow for social interactions to be mutually beneficial and
reinforcing" (O'Handley, Ford, Radley, Helbig, & Wimberly, 2016, pg. 542). Interpersonal skills,
social responsibility, self–esteem, and situational wariness are only some examples of what
individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) have difficulty comprehending ((American Association
on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, 2017). Of course, those diagnosed with an
intellectual disability are not the only individuals in the special education population that have
difficulty with social skills.
A study conducted by Belinda Ratcliffe and others approached the idea that individuals with higher

Reference Groups
Reference groups exist in every society. Even though you don't think about falling into one or more
reference groups you do. Each person probably falls into more then one of these groups. As you age
and grow
into another. Reference groups are formed by people's positions in society. This can have both
positive and negative effects on a person.
When I was 19, I became a single mother of twin boys. I found a job at a local convenience store
and began working. After a while, a chance for advancement came up. I applied for the position.

I belong to the PTA (actually two of them). A group of parents who get together to find ways to
help our kids and our schools. We sponsor book fairs, carnivals, ice cream socials. At the beginning
of the school
year we purchase all the school supplies for our elementary students. Teachers come to use if they
need help in their class room, or funding for an item or a trip. The feeling you get helping make
your children's

thank you. The PTA becomes a group of friends by the end of the school year who can not wait for
September to

just a bunch of stay at home moms who baked cookies for back sales and collected box tops,
because they had so
much time on their hands. I was wrong, most of us work, go to school, have multiple children, run
businesses. The one thing that ties us all together is our

Advantages And Disadvantages Of APA Writing Style
1. I think that having formatting standards such as APA is very necessary and useful for a clear
communication. When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the
correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. An author writing for a
publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among
journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three different manuscripts
might use sub–categories, subcategories, and Subcategories in one issue of a journal or book.
Although the meaning of the word is the same (in this case, subcategories is APA Style), such
variations in style may distract or confuse the reader. To sum up the need for a consistent style
becomes more apparent when complex material is presented, such as tables or statistics.
2. There are advantages and disadvantages in using an APA style.
Let's start with benefits: One major advantage of the APA writing style is that it encourages direct
exposition of your research and emphasizes your original ideas being reported. This precision is
complemented by a straightforward manuscript structure that includes a title page, abstract, body,
reference list and, if applicable, appendices. Also, APA citations include a brief reference in the
body of your text paired with a full citation in your reference list. Citations within the text should list
last name of the author and that author's publication date, followed by a page number if the citation
involves a direct quotation. In addition, the APA writing and citation style ensures you are giving
adequate credit to others for prior work and allows the reader to easily track your references. What
is more adopting the APA writing style guarantees that both the structure of your paper and the
format of your citations are consistent throughout. The clarity of your writing along with a precise
citation format works to establish your credibility, and it reflects the extent of your research.
On the other side the drawbacks in using such a style are: Firstly, the APA manual has a rule for just
about every aspect of writing. You will find instructions for the technical aspects of constructing a
paper,

Essay on Impact of the Internet on Education
For the majority of people, it is difficult to imagine what life would be like without the internet. The
world of education has also undergone tremendous change since the advent of the internet. It allows
students to quickly obtain a vast amount of information on every subject. They also get the
convenience of going to class and completing assignments, permitting them to schedule their time
with great flexibility. The internet has become one of the easiest, fastest and most effective tools that
can be used to explore and comprehend more about the world; however, it is not without problems.
The uses of the internet by students changes their thinking patterns, distracts their attention and
reduces their interpersonal skills.
First of all,...show more content...
Thousands of websites are distracting students from studying time. In an experiment at Cornell
University, students who used internet–connected laptops during a lecture did much worse on a
subsequent test than students who did not use the internet (Carr, 2010). It indicated that using the
internet in class impacts students' attention span (2010). Distractions can take attention away from
learning. In fact, using the internet does not promote study efficiency, but wastes time.
Furthermore, the internet damages students' interpersonal skills. Social media and instant messaging
are major communication tools for students, which lead them to have few opportunities to talk in
person. Recently, a multi–functional cell phone can replace a computer with internet access. There is
a study in England that found that almost forty–percent of students surveyed said they could not live
without their cell phones (Birdwell, 2007). Also, nearly ten–percent of students said that using cell
phones caused them to lose their relationships and jobs (2007). Besides, through online education,
students cannot get face–to–face instruction from professors and also lose their chances to
communicate with classmates.
In conclusion, the influence of internet hangs over the world of education and creates effects on
thinking patterns, concentration and the social skills of students. Under the growing trend of the
digital campus, the negative effects of the internet in education can be

Woke Essay Examples

Essay 1 What does it mean to be "woke"? People who have no idea what the word "woke" mean
by now are probably not woke. And many who are using it are not using it right. Most of us are just
seeing it as a new trending slang, but it is much more than that. The word is worth lives. Woke is
awareness about community issues and confronting social injustices, such as racial inequality. The
term is commonly used to refer to the persistence of racism in America. The Black Lives Matter
movement is credited with popularizing the term as the rallying cry of racial injustice happened to
blacks in the past, is happening to them in present, and to prevent that from happening in the future.
This should be the end. In the future, we don't want to see what's happening to the black kids today
happening to anyone "I have a six–year–old son, and I...show more content...
It's not wishing that all these social injustices didn't happen, It's not sitting on your sofa thinking
about a peaceful country, or writing an essay about woke and just sitting there half asleep doing
nothing. It's "wanting everyone to know correct you are" (Hess). It is fighting down these immoral
happenings in reality. You only win in this when you bring it on to other people "why black lives
matter?" When you make someone realize how it feels when you lose your friend, or your sister, or
make those officers realize what they have done wrong, and take proper actions for what they have
done, that's "woke". But that's not what's been happening to our country, there has been no justice
for the unarmed black people, brutally killed by the police. It doesn't look like our government is
doing anything about it. Just being able to change a racist person's mindset is being woke because
that's "waking up" someone from those social injustices they have been doing to the

Personal Reflection On Engineering
CVEN 4701 Reflection
Yuyang Zhang z5101032 3.1 c
Engineering involves in designing and constructing buildings and bridges, which are related closely
to people's life. Being a professional engineer and knowing the accountabilities are important to
contribute to the safety. Engineering is used to make people's life more convenient, so when
engineers carry out their responsibilities, people's life and wealth safety can be protected. Besides
that, a design should meet the safety regulations to keep the normal operation and protect the
workers. Engineers should take the responsibility to eliminate the damage to the environment. In this
semester, we did an energy assignment, in which we achieved a renewable fraction of 77.7% and the
emission was reduced. That means the emission to global warming is little, public health and
environmental quality are improved and the dependence on fossil fuels is reduced. Besides that
design itself, the contribution to the whole environment can also fulfil the engineer's social value.
3.1 d
In the first workshop of this class, an engineering world with strict regulations was presented by the
professor to me. All engineering designs and researches are the fruit of the engineers' intellect and
hard work. Respecting the intellectual property rights is the principle to everyone in engineering
field. All the essays that I have been referred to have clear references of citation. I have learned
from the essays that it is necessary to state the source

computer program which can generate sentences automatically. To do so, models are first created
based on contexts of interest. These models incorporate word histories that are detected in a context
dependent training set of sentences. Not only will we be able to automatically generate sentences

The training or modeling of the context consists basically of the search, coding and saving of the
occurrence of contiguous word histories corresponding to the sentences and paragraphs of the

way of whole numbers. In figure 2, we give an idea of how we code the histories in the training
corpus. The first word that appears in the first training corpus (recall that we can work incrementally

APA Style Analysis
APA Style Sample
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines.
It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's
name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number,
represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in
parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content...
All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p.
565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example
paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct
quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the
sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names
would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses
at the end of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page.
You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you
include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with
quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are
still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush
left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For
journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined,

Assignment 1 Unitary and pluralistic frames of reference Introduction: This is a research
/investigative assignment into the development and changing background of industrial relations.
Students will identify the main 'actors' in the industrial relations setting thereby creating a backdrop
for further studies. Task 1 Discuss the key differences between unitary theory and pluralism in
relation to the following: "How industrial relations are conducted within a particular organisation is
determined by the frame of reference through which its top managers perceive the formal
relationship with individuals and/or their representatives". Alan Fox (1966) suggested that managers
may adopt one of two basic views: the unitary and the pluralist perspectives. (CIPD, 2016) The
unitary and pluralist perspectives of employee relations The unitary perspective Managers who
practice this view, regard themselves as the one legitimate foundation of control and authority, to
which they value and protect. Management see their role as central ensuring the activities of the
workforce. They assume all employees share the mutual goals of the organisation. All employees are
dedicated to the `management team' and entirely committed to the aspiration of the organisation.
Armstrong (1999) suggests "the philosophy of HRM with its emphasis on commitment and
mutuality is based on the unitary perspective". The pluralistic perspective For this approach,
managers may well encourage freedom of

In order to understand what reference group influences are, it is necessary to firstly understand
what a reference group is. The depth of information surrounding reference groups and the
influences they poses on individuals, particularly on consumer purchasing behaviour is vast and
one could get lost in the mist of it all. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that only research relevant to
this study is included in this section, thus an overview of what a reference group is will be
provided, then the different types of reference groups will be explored based on previous
research, then the data will start to look at the influences reference groups have on individuals,
and their purchasing behaviour, in order to fully understand the power that reference groups
have. 3.2REFERENCE GROUPS (LONGER) In order to find a definition that is able to capture
what a reference group is in a comprehensive sentence, has been difficult and thus the following
terms are the most relevant. The term reference group is defined as 'A group of people that
influences the decisions and opinions of a person or group' (Cambridge, 2016). This term however,
is very simplistic and more detail is required to fully understand what reference groups are. Hyman
(1942) originally characterised the term in a social status study and this characterisation has been
developed and refined numerous amounts of times since, (comb, 1943, Campbell, et al, 1960 and
Shibutani, 1955). Park & Lessig (1977) provided their version

situation, such as meeting new people and then they will turn to a parent, infant care teacher,
preschool teacher, or family child care provider for clues about how they are going to react. It
portrays that young children look for a person who is close or significant in order to obtain
clarifying information in each situation. For example, a person came in a child's house and this is
the first time when the child meets this person. The child might look for their parents to clarify the
new people she sees. Then, child's parents greet this person and introduce it as their parents' friend.

Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing
Research papers (research essays) must include information from sources. This is called synthesizing
or integrating your sources.
There are three ways to incorporate information from other sources into your paper: quoting,
paraphrasing, and summarizing. Good research papers should include at least quoting and
paraphrasing and preferably also summarizing. The method you choose depends on which is the best
way to make the point you are trying to make in using that particular information from the source. It
is very important to remember that even if you are not using the exact words of the author as when
you paraphrase or summarize, you must give a source citation.
Every sentence with information from a...show more content...
Quotations should only be used in paraphrases when there are special words or wording that cannot
be paraphrased. Because the same information that the author provided is being used, a paraphrase
is often as long as the original source. Since paraphrases are information from a source, every
sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source even if exact words are not quoted.
Even through a sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source, any exact words from
the source must be in quotation marks. Failing to use quotation marks on exact words is plagiarism
even if the sentence give credit to the source.
Proper notetaking while doing research will help avoid plagiarism. Notes should include quotation
marks around any exact words taken from sources.
Another problem students may have with paraphrasing is that the language used in the paraphrase
should be an accurate accounting of the source's ideas. Good paraphrasing doesn't just capture the
ideas of the source. They don't include your own opinions or omit important information. Just like in
a quotation, be sure to either introduce the source at the beginning of your paraphrase or cite the
source at the end of the sentence so that the reader knows these are not your ideas, but ideas from

also the long–term employment outlook. The factors that effect employment of civil engineers
include economic conditions, population growth, and investment in public infrastructures. The
Wisconsin average salary for civil engineering positions ranges from $47,400 to $60,600. The
national average starts at $47,400 and goes as high as $68,500. Many employees enjoy generous
benefit packages that include paid vacation and sick leave as well as health and dental insurance,

lot of teens that have experience a dramatical event in their life and they turn to killing themselves

there have been numerous volunteers has put series of summer program to help kids cope with
bullying. June O'Neil the executive project mentor director has offered bullying program in the
beginning of summer because, "a lot of children don't feel safe to get outside and on the street in

  • 2. Essay On Social Interaction Introduction Social interaction with others shapes our lives and teaches us to be who we are. We learn how to talk through one–sided conversations between us and our mom and dad. We learn right from wrong by making mistakes or acting out and being reprimanded if those actions don't represent the norms of our society. We learn through talking with others how to voice our own wants, needs, thoughts, and opinions. Our ability to interact with others can be a core strength for some people, but this is a daily struggle for others. Some individuals don't have this skill to utilize. Social interaction is so important to us, that we are unaware that this is a privilege for us to possess. Having the ability to communicate with others freely,...show more content... Intellectual Disabilities and Social Skills An intellectual disability is characterized by "significant limitations in both intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior" (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, 2017). Capacities such as reasoning and problem solving are mildly to severely insufficient in relation to standards set in place. This leads to difficulties learning in general curriculum classrooms with no accommodations or modifications to the material provided. There is also an absence of conceptual, social, and practical skills. About seventy–five percent of people with intellectual disabilities have demonstrated a lack of social skills. Social skills are "behaviors that allow for social interactions to be mutually beneficial and reinforcing" (O'Handley, Ford, Radley, Helbig, & Wimberly, 2016, pg. 542). Interpersonal skills, social responsibility, self–esteem, and situational wariness are only some examples of what individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) have difficulty comprehending ((American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, 2017). Of course, those diagnosed with an intellectual disability are not the only individuals in the special education population that have difficulty with social skills. A study conducted by Belinda Ratcliffe and others approached the idea that individuals with higher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reference Groups Reference groups exist in every society. Even though you don't think about falling into one or more reference groups you do. Each person probably falls into more then one of these groups. As you age and grow into another. Reference groups are formed by people's positions in society. This can have both positive and negative effects on a person. When I was 19, I became a single mother of twin boys. I found a job at a local convenience store and began working. After a while, a chance for advancement came up. I applied for the position. During my interview the district manager told me that because I was a young single mother I would not receive the promotion since single mothers are more likely to take time off and to steal....show more content... I felt embarrassed to tell people that I was a single mom. I was ashamed and thought I would never get anywhere with people thinking that because I was a young mom I was not worthy of a chance. I belong to the PTA (actually two of them). A group of parents who get together to find ways to help our kids and our schools. We sponsor book fairs, carnivals, ice cream socials. At the beginning of the school year we purchase all the school supplies for our elementary students. Teachers come to use if they need help in their class room, or funding for an item or a trip. The feeling you get helping make your children's schools better places is amazing. Kids come up to you when you are helping at an event and say thank you. The PTA becomes a group of friends by the end of the school year who can not wait for September to come so we can start doing things together again. Before I actually joined the PTA, I thought it was just a bunch of stay at home moms who baked cookies for back sales and collected box tops, because they had so much time on their hands. I was wrong, most of us work, go to school, have multiple children, run businesses. The one thing that ties us all together is our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of APA Writing Style 1. I think that having formatting standards such as APA is very necessary and useful for a clear communication. When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three different manuscripts might use sub–categories, subcategories, and Subcategories in one issue of a journal or book. Although the meaning of the word is the same (in this case, subcategories is APA Style), such variations in style may distract or confuse the reader. To sum up the need for a consistent style becomes more apparent when complex material is presented, such as tables or statistics. 2. There are advantages and disadvantages in using an APA style. Let's start with benefits: One major advantage of the APA writing style is that it encourages direct exposition of your research and emphasizes your original ideas being reported. This precision is complemented by a straightforward manuscript structure that includes a title page, abstract, body, reference list and, if applicable, appendices. Also, APA citations include a brief reference in the body of your text paired with a full citation in your reference list. Citations within the text should list last name of the author and that author's publication date, followed by a page number if the citation involves a direct quotation. In addition, the APA writing and citation style ensures you are giving adequate credit to others for prior work and allows the reader to easily track your references. What is more adopting the APA writing style guarantees that both the structure of your paper and the format of your citations are consistent throughout. The clarity of your writing along with a precise citation format works to establish your credibility, and it reflects the extent of your research. On the other side the drawbacks in using such a style are: Firstly, the APA manual has a rule for just about every aspect of writing. You will find instructions for the technical aspects of constructing a paper, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Impact of the Internet on Education For the majority of people, it is difficult to imagine what life would be like without the internet. The world of education has also undergone tremendous change since the advent of the internet. It allows students to quickly obtain a vast amount of information on every subject. They also get the convenience of going to class and completing assignments, permitting them to schedule their time with great flexibility. The internet has become one of the easiest, fastest and most effective tools that can be used to explore and comprehend more about the world; however, it is not without problems. The uses of the internet by students changes their thinking patterns, distracts their attention and reduces their interpersonal skills. First of all,...show more content... Thousands of websites are distracting students from studying time. In an experiment at Cornell University, students who used internet–connected laptops during a lecture did much worse on a subsequent test than students who did not use the internet (Carr, 2010). It indicated that using the internet in class impacts students' attention span (2010). Distractions can take attention away from learning. In fact, using the internet does not promote study efficiency, but wastes time. Furthermore, the internet damages students' interpersonal skills. Social media and instant messaging are major communication tools for students, which lead them to have few opportunities to talk in person. Recently, a multi–functional cell phone can replace a computer with internet access. There is a study in England that found that almost forty–percent of students surveyed said they could not live without their cell phones (Birdwell, 2007). Also, nearly ten–percent of students said that using cell phones caused them to lose their relationships and jobs (2007). Besides, through online education, students cannot get face–to–face instruction from professors and also lose their chances to communicate with classmates. In conclusion, the influence of internet hangs over the world of education and creates effects on thinking patterns, concentration and the social skills of students. Under the growing trend of the digital campus, the negative effects of the internet in education can be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

People who have no idea what the word "woke" mean by now are probably not woke. And many who are using it are not using it right. Most of us are just seeing it as a new trending slang, but it is much more than that. The word is worth lives. Woke is awareness about community issues and confronting social injustices, such as racial inequality. The term is commonly used to refer to the persistence of racism in America. The Black Lives Matter movement is credited with popularizing the term as the rallying cry of racial injustice happened to blacks in the past, is happening to them in present, and to prevent that from happening in the future. This should be the end. In the future, we don't want to see what's happening to the black kids today happening to anyone "I have a six–year–old son, and I...show more content... It's not wishing that all these social injustices didn't happen, It's not sitting on your sofa thinking about a peaceful country, or writing an essay about woke and just sitting there half asleep doing nothing. It's "wanting everyone to know correct you are" (Hess). It is fighting down these immoral happenings in reality. You only win in this when you bring it on to other people "why black lives matter?" When you make someone realize how it feels when you lose your friend, or your sister, or make those officers realize what they have done wrong, and take proper actions for what they have done, that's "woke". But that's not what's been happening to our country, there has been no justice for the unarmed black people, brutally killed by the police. It doesn't look like our government is doing anything about it. Just being able to change a racist person's mindset is being woke because that's "waking up" someone from those social injustices they have been doing to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Personal Reflection On Engineering CVEN 4701 Reflection Yuyang Zhang z5101032 3.1 c Engineering involves in designing and constructing buildings and bridges, which are related closely to people's life. Being a professional engineer and knowing the accountabilities are important to contribute to the safety. Engineering is used to make people's life more convenient, so when engineers carry out their responsibilities, people's life and wealth safety can be protected. Besides that, a design should meet the safety regulations to keep the normal operation and protect the workers. Engineers should take the responsibility to eliminate the damage to the environment. In this semester, we did an energy assignment, in which we achieved a renewable fraction of 77.7% and the emission was reduced. That means the emission to global warming is little, public health and environmental quality are improved and the dependence on fossil fuels is reduced. Besides that design itself, the contribution to the whole environment can also fulfil the engineer's social value. 3.1 d In the first workshop of this class, an engineering world with strict regulations was presented by the professor to me. All engineering designs and researches are the fruit of the engineers' intellect and hard work. Respecting the intellectual property rights is the principle to everyone in engineering field. All the essays that I have been referred to have clear references of citation. I have learned from the essays that it is necessary to state the source Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We describe an experimental computer program which can generate sentences automatically. To do so, models are first created based on contexts of interest. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points. APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content... All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565). Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote. Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). Students will identify the main 'actors' in the industrial relations setting thereby creating a backdrop for further studies. Task 1 Discuss the key differences between unitary theory and pluralism in relation to the following: "How industrial relations are conducted within a particular organisation is determined by the frame of reference through which its top managers perceive the formal relationship with individuals and/or their representatives". Alan Fox (1966) suggested that managers may adopt one of two basic views: the unitary and the pluralist perspectives. (CIPD, 2016) The unitary and pluralist perspectives of employee relations The unitary perspective Managers who practice this view, regard themselves as the one legitimate foundation of control and authority, to which they value and protect. Management see their role as central ensuring the activities of the workforce. They assume all employees share the mutual goals of the organisation. All employees are dedicated to the `management team' and entirely committed to the aspiration of the organisation. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that only research relevant to this study is included in this section, thus an overview of what a reference group is will be provided, then the different types of reference groups will be explored based on previous research, then the data will start to look at the influences reference groups have on individuals, and their purchasing behaviour, in order to fully understand the power that reference groups have. 3.2REFERENCE GROUPS (LONGER) In order to find a definition that is able to capture what a reference group is in a comprehensive sentence, has been difficult and thus the following terms are the most relevant. The term reference group is defined as 'A group of people that influences the decisions and opinions of a person or group' (Cambridge, 2016). This term however, is very simplistic and more detail is required to fully understand what reference groups are. Hyman (1942) originally characterised the term in a social status study and this characterisation has been developed and refined numerous amounts of times since, (comb, 1943, Campbell, et al, 1960 and Shibutani, 1955). • 14. Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing Research papers (research essays) must include information from sources. This is called synthesizing or integrating your sources. There are three ways to incorporate information from other sources into your paper: quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Good research papers should include at least quoting and paraphrasing and preferably also summarizing. The method you choose depends on which is the best way to make the point you are trying to make in using that particular information from the source. It is very important to remember that even if you are not using the exact words of the author as when you paraphrase or summarize, you must give a source citation. Every sentence with information from a...show more content... Quotations should only be used in paraphrases when there are special words or wording that cannot be paraphrased. Because the same information that the author provided is being used, a paraphrase is often as long as the original source. Since paraphrases are information from a source, every sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source even if exact words are not quoted. Even through a sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source, any exact words from the source must be in quotation marks. Failing to use quotation marks on exact words is plagiarism even if the sentence give credit to the source. Proper notetaking while doing research will help avoid plagiarism. Notes should include quotation marks around any exact words taken from sources. Another problem students may have with paraphrasing is that the language used in the paraphrase should be an accurate accounting of the source's ideas. Good paraphrasing doesn't just capture the ideas of the source. They don't include your own opinions or omit important information. Just like in a quotation, be sure to either introduce the source at the beginning of your paraphrase or cite the source at the end of the sentence so that the reader knows these are not your ideas, but ideas from your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
