Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Patch
Combination patch contraceptive: Available in the United States since 2001, the contraceptive transdermal patch releases estrogen and progesterone
directly into the skin (Ortho Evra, Ortho–McNeil Pharmaceutical; Raritan, NJ). Each patch contains a 1–week supply of hormones of both
norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol. It releases a sustained low daily dose of steroids equivalent to the lowest–dose oral contraceptive. In August
2002, the FDA listed a failure rate for the patch of one pregnancy per hundred women per year, similar to that of other combination methods.
Advantages include greater compliance and decreased adverse effects, such as nausea and vomiting, due to the avoidance of the 1st–pass effect.
However, the patch may cause skin irritation, and, if it is removed unnoticed, such as from showering, this may compromise efficacy. Disadvantages
and contraindications are similar to those of combined oral contraceptives. It may be less effective in women who weigh more than 198 pounds.... Show

Findings noted a higher steady state concentration and lower peak concentrations in the patch as compared with combined oral contraceptives. Average
concentrations at steady state for ethinyl estradiol are approximately sixty percent higher in women using Ortho Evra and peak concentrations are

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Contraceptives
There are many different contraceptives available to today's youth.
The first and major one would be the Birth control pills. There are two types of these pills, the first being the Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills which
contain two hormones, an oestrogen and progestin and the second being the Progestin–only pills which contains one hormone being progestin. The
Combined Oral Contraceptive pill works by stopping ovulation (release of an egg) and by inhibiting the movement of sperm. Among common couples
who start utilization of combined pills around eight percent of women encounter an incidental pregnancy within the first year. Whereas if the pills are
used constantly and effectively, only three in 1000 women will become pregnant. Condoms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also reduce PMS symptoms, menstrual blood loss, anaemia and they stop endometriosis. The disadvantages of the combined pill is that they do
not protect against the contraction of HIV/AIDS or other STIs; a women must remember to take the pill at the same time; every day, some women
experience headaches, depression or decreased enjoyment of intercourse. The Progestin–only pills work by making cervical mucus thicker so that the
sperm cannot get to the egg and the also make the lining of the uterus thinner, sometimes they even stop ovulation. The effectiveness against pregnancy
and the contraction of HIV/AIDS is the same as combined contraceptive pills. Some of the advantages of choosing progestin–only pills are that the
amount of progestin in these pills in less than in combined pills; these pills cause light menstrual flow and less anaemia and they also reduce menstrual
cramps, pain, headaches, mood swings and breast tenderness. The disadvantages of choosing progestin–only pills is that they cause your menstrual cycle
to be irregular; like the combined pills, they do not protect against HIV/AIDS or other STIs and a condom is recommended to be used at the same time.

The Senate Bill 206
In the summer of 2014, Wisconsin's court argued on the the Senate Bill 206, a law that would force at least one the Wisconsin's abortion clinics to
close. This closing would create many hardships for low income women. When discussing this bill, Assistant Attorney General Clayton Kawski
compared ending a pregnancy to buying a car "If I decided I'm going to buy an Mercede–Benz but cannot get financing for that and don't have the
funds to buy it, am I prevented from buying a Mercedes–Benz?" (Hellerstein 1). Comparing the accessibility to abortions as a luxury good. Throughout
this city State Legislatures has placed many restriction intended to prevent access to abortions. The potential fee due to these restrictions for low
income single mothers in Wisconsin obtaining an abortion would cost up to $1,380 while for middle income women fees for abortion has dropped to
$593 (Hellerstein 1). These restrictions also affect middle class women looking for abortion clinics but these women are able to travel to close states
in order to undergo the procedure unlike low income women. This travel includes money for transportation, hotel and food for up to two days. This
takes away money needed for other necessities and time away from work. The right of a women to control her reproductive decision is highly debated
in the US because of the idea that abortions, to some people, are considered murder. A woman's ability to make reproductive choices is a fundamental
right protected by the

The world population is 7.046 billion and there are 8.260 million new babies are born every year (Worldometers n.d.), because of this global over
population problem, some countries' government allowed birth control pill and medicine or artificial abortion can be used to control the population.
Now, due to different reason women use birth control pill and abortion more wide than before to stop they get pregnancy. However, most women and
governments do not realize the harms of birth control pill and abortion. About this issue, Chinese one child policy always is a contentious problem.
In China, there are 400 million babies were not be born after Chinese government implemented one child policy since 1982 (Mosher. 2011). Based
on one child policy, the increasing of population is slow down, however in last two decades year, a lot of women who had second child were tolled
to take abortion forcibly or pay an extremely expensive cost. However, the harms of birth control pill and abortion are more than this. Birth control pill
and abortion should not be used widely are harmful to women's health, lead to some social issues and they violate human tights.
Birth control pill and abortion not only can affect women's body health, but also affect women's psychological health. Birth control pill and medicine

Has Birth Control Helped Our Women Or Been An Affliction
Has birth control helped our women or been an affliction for them ? In 1950, a lady whose name is Margaret Sanger underwrote the research to
create the first birth control pill. "She raised $150,000 for the project. 1960 The first oral contraceptive, Enovid, was approved by the US Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) as contraception (Sanger 24)". I am looking forward to initiate what people views are from the perspective of birth control
and if it has helped the society and if it hasn't why do they think otherwise.

"In 1965, The Supreme Court (in Griswold v. Connecticut) gave married couples the right to use birth control, ruling that it was protected in the

contraceptives (the Pill) at well–publicized Congressional hearings. As a result, the formulation of the Pill was changed, and the package insert for
prescription drugs came into being. In 1972, The Supreme Court (in Baird v. Eisenstadt) legalized birth control for all citizens of this country,
irrespective of marital status. In 1974, The FDA suspended sale of the Dalkon Shield IUD due to infections and seven documented deaths among
users. Although other IUD designs were not implicated, most IUDs were slowly taken off the US market due to the escalating costs of lawsuits in
subsequent years. In the1980s, Pills with low doses of hormones were introduced, along with a new copper IUD, ParaGard (1998). (CuT380a). Growing

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spermicides
– Spermicidal agents: Vaginal spermicides consist of a base combined with either nonoxynol–9 or octoxynol. The actual spermicidal agent consists of a
surfactant that destroys the cell membrane of sperm. Bases include vaginal foams, suppositories, jellies, films, foaming tablets, and creams. These must
be inserted into the vagina before each intercourse. Utilization of spermicidal agents also reduces the possibility of infection by both viral and bacterial
organisms that cause STDs; however, clinical data on their efficacy for preventing the transmission of HIV are limited. Nonoxynol–9 is toxic to the
lactobacilli that are part of the normal vaginal flora. Adverse effects include increased vaginal colonization with the bacteria Escherichia... Show more

The Importance Of Birth Control
Recently, the Trump administration released regulations allowing employers, colleges, and universities to eliminate birth–control coverage from their
health care plans due to moral or religious objections (CNBC). These new regulations are not only inhumane, they are argued to be unconstitutional.
The primary users of oral contraception are women, so denying women easy access to birth control is considered gender discrimination, because it
singles out women and treats medication they need less–favorably, thus violating the Civil Rights Act (Planned Parenthood Action). Many women
need birth control for health reasons, infertility, and menstrual cycle irregularities, which is why it is wrong to take away free and easy access to
birth control. Oral contraceptives are an important part of many women's health. For instance, many women use birth control to reduce the risk of
developing ovarian cysts, which form during ovulation. Since birth control prevents ovulation, the risks of ovarian cysts while on the pill are
significantly lower (E Medicine Health). Birth control can also prevent ovarian and colorectal cancer. Studies have shown that the risk of developing
uterine cancer reduces considerably after one year of being on the pill, and the ovarian cancer risk is reduced after just three to six months of being
on the pill (Miller). Birth control is futile for the women who use it for these reasons, it is the silver lining between life and death for them, in extreme
cases.

Pregnancy Prevention Essay
Pregnancy Prevention Introduction: Pregnancy is not always a planned or wanted event in peoples lives, and so we have man made ways to
prevent pregnancy from happening. Everyone has the freedom of choice, both male and female, so therefore there are both male and female
methods of contraception. There is an expansive range of contraception methods world wide, and they can be as extreme as being operated on, such
as having a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. The more minor options are using condoms or taking a type of contraceptive pill. In this essay I will also
talk about the different factors which effect the way people feel about contraception, as many people have beliefs which may not... Show more content

For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) describes EC as a contraceptive method used by women in the first few days following
unprotected intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Some conservative political and religious organizations seek to limit women's reproductive
choices by an inaccurately characterizing EC as abortion, when in fact; the WHO considers it a safe contraceptive. Respect for women's rights to
reproduce self–determination also requires governments to ensure that women give their full, informed consent before receiving a contraceptive
method. Government policies that disregard a women's own wishes in order to meet demographic goals put women in danger of coercive and violent
practices. Subjecting women to surgical sterilization or administering contraceptive injections or implants without her informed consent, for example,
violates women's fundamental reproductive rights. Consistent and correct use of modern methods of contraception can prevent many unwanted
pregnancies. In order to meet their international commitments, governments must improve access for men, women, and adolescents to high quality
family planning information and services that offer a range of freely chosen contraceptive methods. Methods of contraception: Male methods: Male
methods could potentially be safer, more effective, and easier to use than

In the article, Patz states that several women believe the only benefit from the use of birth control is pregnancy prevention. However, there are several
other pros to the medication that women can benefit from and several different types of brands and devices that can provide women with these
benefits. Patz states the best contraceptive device for women with heavy periods would be the Mirena hormonal intrauterine device, also called an IUD.
The Mirena IUD is a plastic device that is inserted in the uterus by an OB/GYN and lasts for five years. Patz states "The Mirena also releases low
doses of a hormone called levonorgestrel into the lining of your uterus, which can whittle away your period" (Patz). Patz also suggests the Yaz or
Yasmin oral contraceptive device brands for women suffering with pre–period bloating. Some brand options for women with acne problems are Yaz,
Ortho Tri–Cyclen, and Estrostep Fe. These pills will help treat acne because they lower the amount of testosterone in a women's body, which leads to
oil production. For women with lubrication issues, Patz recommends a vaginal hormonal ring called NuvaRing. The NuvaRing is a plastic ring that is
inserted in the vagina. The ring will release estrogen into the

Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill
Humans have been using different kinds of contraceptives for millions of years, but to this day nothing quite compares to the effectivity and influence
of "the pill". Formally known as the Combined oral contraceptive pill, or COCP, the birth control pill was an idea initially suggested by Planned
Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger in the early nineteen–fifties. Since then, the little pill has created a BIG impact. Women now had the option to
focus on things other than motherhood, and social roles between the sexes shifted dramatically. They could spend more time on education– and sex
became better known as an act of love, rather than just a way to reproduce. The pill was an important step in changing the way women were seen by
the world, shattering the stereotype of the typical wife and mother, and liberating independent women around the globe.
With the advent of the birth control pill, women around the world were one step closer to freedom from the motherly role society forced on them.
Rather than getting married and raising children at a young age, women found more time to work towards a higher education– Soon after the birth
control pill was legalized there was a significant increase in college attendance and graduation rates for women. Some even say ... Show more content

With more time and freedom to do what they wanted, women everywhere saw a reflection of their actions in the way they were seen around the
world. The birth control pill shattered a lot of stereotypes and skewed traditional values that kept women everywhere at home with the kids. Now more
than ever, they had the ability to really take control over their lives– while still remaining intimate. For feminism, the pill was a big step towards
achieving gender equality; Men were no longer the only ones able to regularly participate in non–committal intercourse, and women didn't have to be
either a virgin or a mother to be accepted

Persuasive Essay On Birth Control
The first thing that comes to mind when we think "birth control" is pregnancy prevention, when in reality birth control has many uses. Yes, it allows
women to take more control over their reproductive health as well as stopping unwanted pregnancies, however it has other purposes. Some of the aids
that birth control offers are reducing acne, relieving cramps during menstruation, helping with irregular or heavy menstrual periods, endometriosis
(which is when tissue that normally lines the uterus grows over the uterus) and even anxiety and depression. Although birth control is a great option
for some women, others choose not to use it and some women are even against it. Birth control can be a very controversial topic for many, while some
females believe they should have the right to choose when to be pregnant others feel nature should take its course.
Birth control was first introduced to the United States in 1960, as an oral contraceptive known as "the pill". It gave women the opportunity to postpone
having unwanted children and opened the door to higher education and professional careers for many. More than 50 years later the pill continues to be
the most common form of birth control. (Cunningham 2) Additional methods have been developed since then for women such as implants, patches,
condoms, vaginal rings, and injectables etc. It's obvious that some women very much like using birth control as it has continued to grow with time.
Some of the different types of birth control include barrier methods, their purpose is to physically block sperm from entering the uterus. Barrier
devices can be most effective when used with a spermicide which acts as a "sperm killer" and can be purchased in forms of gels or creams. The most
common contraceptive method used worldwide is male condoms because they're easy to use, economical, and don't require medical supervision.
Condoms also offer some protection against sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs. STD prevention is already a great reason to use condoms as a
form of protection during intercourse.
Just like condoms made for men there are some for women. The female condom is a lubricated polyurethane sheath with a ring at each end. The closed
end is inserted in the vagina,

Birth Control : An Effective Means Of Preventing Pregnancy
Introduction Birth control is becoming a very controversial topic in today's society. Although some forms of birth control have been around for
thousands of years, those that are most familiar to us have been practiced since the late 1950's. People's views and beliefs on birth control have
changed dramatically. According to theBirth control pill facts sheet, "About five women out of the one hundred using this method for one year will
get pregnant" (2014, p. 4). This illustrates that although birth control is an effective means of preventing pregnancy, it is not 100% effective. In this
paper I will discuss the different types of birth control and statistics related to birth control. I will also discuss different positive and negative impacts
that birth control can have on women. Past and present views and recent laws on birth control will also be covered in this paper.
Description of the Topic I Chose Current birth control methods have been around for 50 plus years and during this time frame, the different types of
birth control have evolved and changed. In the article written by George T. Krucik (2013), he lists "12 of the most popular birth control methods, which
includes: Hormonal Intrauterine Device (IUD), Copper Intrauterine Device (IUD), the Implant, the Shot, the Pill, Contraceptive Vaginal Ring,

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Stress Fractures
A break in a bone that is caused by repetitive and/or intense exercise and prolonged pressure on the bone is known as a stress fracture. Stress fractures
may pass through the entire bone (complete) or partially break (incomplete).
SYMPTOMS
Inflammation at the fracture site.
Bleeding (uncommon).
Bruising (uncommon).
Pain and tenderness over the fracture site.
Weakness and inability to bear weight on the injured extremity.
Paleness and deformity (sometimes).
CAUSES
Stress fractures are the result of repetitive micro trauma of a bone. The bone is injured at a greater rate than it can be healed by the body. This causes
the bone to become weak and susceptible to fracture. Stress fractures typically follow changes in:
Training or performance schedule.
Equipment.
Intensity of activity.
Women who no longer have their periods are more prone to stress fractures.
RISK INCREASES WITH:
Previous stress fracture.
Certain sports associated with specific fractures:
в—‹ Leg: running, soccer, swimming, ballet, basketball.
в—‹ Foot: running, walking, marching, swimming, soccer, ballet.
в—‹ Heel bone: basketball, volleyball.
в—‹ Thigh: running, basketball, jumping.

Persuasive Essay On Birth Control
A young woman is made once she's able to think for herself and is experiencing changes in her body. Once this occurs she should be able to care for
herself without others acknowledging it unless she wants them to know. Teenagers and birth control are a controversial topic, however, it's a debate
where the voices of teenage girls should be the main source. In many cases, young women are looked down upon and feel they have no other choice
than to hide or face the punishments (such as criticism or even being grounded by their parents) given by society when coming out about using birth
control. Girls should be able to obtain birth control without parents consent at the age of 15; not only is it their body, it's a beneficial drug when it
comes to medical reasons and avoiding teenage pregnancies.
The process of obtaining birth control includes getting a prescription and purchasing them if your insurance doesn't cover them. These pills should be
taken daily and need to be purchased monthly depending on the brand. According to Planned Parenthood, "When used perfectly, the pill is 99%
effective. But when it comes to real life, the pill is about 91% effective because it can be hard to be perfect". This means that the drug has a strict
dosage but is reliable if the necessary requirements are followed. Any woman who has good consistency and has the money to purchase the drug should
be able to obtain without problems whatsoever. After all, they shouldn't be restricted to certain ages

Unintended Pregnancy Is A Burgeoning Epidemic Throughout...
Unintended pregnancy is a burgeoning epidemic throughout the United States that can be easily prevented through proper measures. This epidemic is
especially prevalent in women of low income. A woman is considered at risk for an unintended pregnancy if she had sex with a male within the past
12 months, did not want to become pregnant, wasn't currently pregnant, and neither her or her partner were sterilized ( Forrest & Frost, 1996). A major
factor in the risk of unintended pregnancy is contraceptive use. There are numerous components that affect contraceptive use including: family planning
attitudes and contraceptive use influencing factors, health insurance coverage , and male perception towards contraception .
Due to unintended pregnancy becoming a rapidly increasing occurrence in the United States, it is imperative to analyze the circumstances leading
up to the pregnancy. According to Finer & Zolna ( as cited in Ayoola,Zandee, Johnson, & Pennings, 2014) in 2006 almost one half of all
pregnancies in the United states were unintended. The risk for having an unintended pregnancy increases when there is contraceptive failure or
effective contraceptives are not used ( Ayoola et al., 2014). Women who have less education and a lower income are more likely to misuse
contraception or engage in contraceptive non use ( Ayoola et al., 2014). Ayoola et al's research study in 2014 set out to display an overview of
contraceptive use in low income women who lived in medically

Birth Control Movement : Margaret Sanger
The birth control movement was created in early 20th century by Progressive and Socialist reformers like Margaret Sanger. She and other birth control
activists would fight for women's access to birth control through the 20th century which has gone on to affect American women today. In order to
analyze the affect that birth control has had on America, it is necessary to look at the works of Margaret Sanger and the birth control movement of the
progressive era. A good primary source with information that assesses the birth control movement is the collection of anonymous letters sent to
Margaret Sanger entitled Motherhood in Bondage, published in 1928. A secondary source used is the book Margaret Sanger And the Birth Control
Movement In America, written by Ellen Chesler in 1992. Lastly, a tertiary source is the PBS website, http://www.pbs.org/wg1}bh/amex/pill/timeline
/ that discusses the timeline of birth control in America. If it were not for the progressive thinking and radical changes promoted by the socialist party,
birth control would have never been able to make its mark on American history First to promote the Birth Control movement was radical political
activist, Margaret Sanger. At nineteen years old, Margaret watched her mother of only fifty years old die from tuberculosis. Out of anger she
immediately blamed her father for putting the strain of eleven childbirths and seven miscarriages on her mother (PBS). This would begin her career for
helping women. Sanger

Women 's Rights Of Women
In today's society women have acquired more rights than they have had in years. Women now have the ability to do so many things that they
couldn't before, things that they had to fight for such as voting, working outside the home, making family decisions and so much more. This is a
constant battle though because there are many people that constantly fight against women's rights including lawmakers who would like to see their
rights suppressed again in the form of child bearing and what jobs are available to women. Women still suffer from unequal pay in the workforce
which accounts for a portion of the poverty rate in America. According to http://www.iwpr.org in 2014 women made approximately 79 percent of
the wages that men did, equaling a 21 percent pay gap. When you account for the fact that many of these women are single parents supporting a
family with no help, you might ask yourself how this is even ethical or right in a society such as ours. According to Utilitarianism we must do what
produces the best results for the greatest amount of people. (Mosser, 2013) Since women account for a little over half of the population in the U.S,
assuring that they are treated equally and fairly seems like what is in the best interest of the greatest amount of people. Women's rights become to
come into question when lawmakers are working to pass laws telling them when and how they can have children. The Affordable Care Act has led to
great advances in giving women

Effective Use Of Birth Control In The United States
Birth control is a method that helps prevent pregnancies from happening. There are many methods of it. It has been around for probably more than
1000 years and has been a human concern. Birth control today can be permanent and can also be used with each time you have intercourse. Some
effectiveness of birth control can be close to one hundred percent, but if you don't get it in time or use it how it's supposed to be used then it will not
be effective.
The most common type of method is the male condom and they are used worldwide. They are very inexpensive and are very easy to use. Condoms
also doesn't have any side effects unless you are allergic to the things that they are made out of. There also is a female condom but it really isn't effective

Margaret Sanger was the one who got birth control sort of a big thing in the United States in the 1900's. She and some other women opened clinics
to help women understand the information and devices of birth control. She would be thrown in jail for trying to get women to understand the things
that they are able to get. In Connecticut they had a statue that banned the use of birth control in married couples but in 1965's the U.S. Supreme
Court had took it down. The U.S. Congress restricted public access to all birth control methods and information on them for about 6 decades. In the
early 1990's schools and religious groups in the United States gave many older students condoms to use for a method of birth control and to help
prevent the spread of AIDS. They did some surveys in the United States and the most people that uses some type of birth control are the married

The Methods For Preventing Pregnancy
Humans throughout history have been using different methods to prevent pregnancy. Humans started experimenting with different "natural" methods
to take care of themselves, a good example is back in 1850 BCE Egyptians described how women used to introduce a device made of crocodile dung
and fermented dough in their vagina. Other contraceptives methods that Egyptians used such as honey, placed plugs of gum and acacia in the vagina.
Another example is Ancient Romans used a highly acidic concoction of fruit and nuts in the vagina. While these societies were trying to create
different contraceptive methods, they came up with the barrier method which means that something was placed over the cervix to stop the movement
of sperm to the fallopian tubes. These are the first examples that societies without any clue of knowing how to take care of themselves practiced. There
were many methods that did not work such as coitus interruptus or withdrawal the penis from the vagina before ejaculation. Even though this method is
not effective there are many people nowadays that still practice this method. Condoms is one of the most effective methods that was invented about
3,000 years and have been made from different materials as cloth, animal intestines and fish bladders. As condoms are used to prevent diseases, as
Ancients Egyptian and Ancient Romans used them to prevent diseases as Syphilis. Condoms have been produced in the United States since 1840 and
currently condoms are the second

Breast Cancer At Age 45
My mother, Bonita, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 45. She first discovered the lump herself and proceeded to take it to a professional to get
it checked out. There is no evidence in her immediate family to say that this is hereditary, but a combination of a few factors increased her risk of
getting breast cancer. My mother was overweight, has had an early menstruation (before age 12), lived a sedentary lifestyle, and at the time she didn't
have a well–balanced diet. Along with those factors, her doctors pointed out that her risk could have been increased by her use of an oral
contraceptive. She began taking birth control at age 21 and discontinued the use after she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 45. It wasn't a
consistent use, as there were a couple of births and one miscarriage during that time frame. One of the main reasons she stopped using birth control
once she got diagnosed was because her tumor was being fueled by the estrogen in the birth control medication. This was confirmed by the lab results
that she got back for ERA (Estrogen) and PRA (Progesterone). ERA and PRA receptors were the two factors that her doctors needed to review and
determine what was actually feeding the tumors. After more results came back, her cancer was diagnosed as LCIS, which is short for Invasive Lobular
Carcinoma in situ, meaning abnormal cancerous cells started to grow in the lobules, the milk–producing glands at the end of breast ducts. Carcinoma

There are several types of birth control methods, and many f them are used for a variety of reasons. Most birth control methods are used to prevent
pregnancy. Some females are usually put on birth control when they become sexually active. Some young girls started receiving birth control at the
age of thirteen it all depends on the circumstances. Certain birth controls have some side effects and risks that could cause a lot of changes within
the body. There are some oral contraceptives that contain the hormones progestogen and estrogen. The combined contraceptives are used to prevent
the ovaries from releasing an egg. The oral contraceptive has to be taken once daily. There are also some emergency contraception's that is taken only
once, and is known as the morning after pill. The emergency contraception pill contains a high dose of artificial progestogen which is normally used

The History of Birth Control and Society Essay
The History of Birth Control and Society
People have been desperate to control how many children they have and abstinence is not really an option adults want to choose. Some ancient forms
of birth control include: animal skins and intestines for condoms, lemons as barriers to protect from pregnancy, poisonous cocktails to cause abortion,
and animal dung cocktails as spermicides. When those measures failed, women turned to abortions. (Rengal intro ix) Humankind has been trying to
have sex without pregnancy since ancient times. Birth control methods have been around for centuries, the types and safety have varied over the years.
The women's right revolution was a vital part in developing safe methods. Even though some people still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most ancient forms of abortion have serious risks to the mother; if she ingests the wrong amount of poison it could kill her. "The ancient Greeks
wrote extensively on medicine and gynecology, and they included frequent references to abortions." (Salisbury 1) The Greeks did not value infant
life; if a child was born unwanted they would leave it exposed to the elements to die. Roman physicians built on Greek medicine practices, there were
only two reasons they would not help a woman abort a child. The first reason was if the child was conceived from adultery and the second reason was
to preserve her beauty. I find this ironic since these seem to be popular reasons for having abortions today. According to Joyce Salisbury author of The
Encyclopedia of Women in the Ancient World, society initially only made rules against abortion to control women, it was not until the third century
A.D. that Christians made the issue about the unborn baby (1).
The only sure way to prevent pregnancy now and in ancient time was by abstaining from sex. The easiest way to prevent pregnancy with intercourse
was the withdrawal method. This is mentioned in the Christian bible as the "sin of Onan." (Salisbury 68) "Roman physician, Soranus, recommended
the woman take responsibility for withdrawing at the moment of orgasm. He said that when she guessed that the man was about to ejaculate, she

The Controversy Surrounding Oral Contraception
The combined oral contraceptive pill was invented in the 1950s. During the first ten years of its existence it remained a purchasable method of
contraception. This was until the 1960s as the Ministry of Health then permitted doctors to prescribe the drug if they sought necessary courtesy of the
National Health Service. From then, the popularity of the pill had risen tremendously and by the late 1960s over 15% of married British women were
using the pill. Its rapid popularity was not restricted to the United Kingdom as at the same time 2% of the female population worldwide relied on the
pill as birth control. These figures continued to rise, and after the 1970s the pill in Britain became a dominant method of contraception (Marks, V, L,...

Although it was eventually embraced by all classes, a trend where the majority of lower class women took the pill failed to arise. It became acceptable
and popular for all genres of women; such a reaction was unanticipated. Media exposure imposed expectations and hopes onto the public which failed to
reflect reality. When such expectations were not met doubts were inflicted onto the pill and questions concerning its uselessness were raised spurring
further debate and controversy.
During the growth of the pill's popularity, the ideology of a woman was one devoted to her husband and children. The pill offered women freedom and
independence. Women could build careers and focus on things other than families, which challenged this ideology created by the media. As more
women took the pill, fewer women did what society expected of them. Women were seen as rebelling against traditional norms and values. Anxieties
grew because the nature of women was changing, and its effects were unknown. Controversy stemmed from this because the illustration of women
through the media was not matching reality and the pill was pinned as the cause. The media had yet again created expectations of women, and the
growth of the pill led to the increasing of such expectations failing to be met. One particular expectation of women was a commitment to their romantic
partners. A major topic of the controversy regarding the contraceptive pill is concerned with the idea that it

History Of The Pill

method of birth control(Thompson). Oral contraceptives, like all contraceptives, reduced the chances of getting pregnant. The major difference of this
method is that it altered the hormones that a woman's body released. The introduction of the pill drastically changed many aspects of society, one
being that women and men were now able to have absolute power over their method of contraceptive. It took nearly ten years to research and develop
the first oral contraceptive. Researcher, George Pincus, and organic chemist, Russel Marker, worked together to create the pill (Background.) Synthetic

Essay On Pros And Cons Of Birth Control
The Cons of Birth Control Pills in the Hands of Women and Life:
Prevention or a Risk?
Kelcey Jenkins
Outline
THESIS: Unless the risks of Teen Pregnancy or population overgrowth are shown to outweigh the benefits, we should not promote just giving away
birth control and aware females to use a condom; instead, we should be educating both the young and grown women about the dangers of the side

I. Scientific Studies have proved a link between birth control and the cause of pregnancy.

Yes, birth control can be used in a well mannerly way not only to prevent pregnancies but other things to. The birth control pill can be used to help
menstrual cramps, mood swings, and period regulation. The birth control pill can also make lives women and couples by the following: allowing
people to invest in their education or job first, reducing unwanted and ill–timed childbearing, and subsidization helps poor families, and they may
choose to delay or avoid having children. The results in family planning are linked to 2%to 3% higher adult incomes for children born as
contraception became more common [Web MD]. College completion increase 2%to7% for children whose mothers had access to family planning.
So when push comes to shove, you should take action in family planning to better prepare yourself for your future instead of making one mistake
that will ruin your life [Case study 2]. In this case, birth control could be listed as a pro because it is allowing women to prevent something they may
not want. If our society didn't have birth control then our world would be overpopulated and we would soon run out of supplies and food due to not
being able to afford it. When things like overpopulation come about, then we have to think far ahead what could happen and what consequences we

Birth Control Is The Practice Of Preventing Unwanted...
Imagine you ran out of your favorite toothpaste but instead of just running to the nearest drug store you have to call your doctor's office, set an
appointment, receive a prescription then go to the pharmacy to have it filled just to get a new tube of toothpaste. Obviously people do not have to go
through this process just to get toothpaste but they do in fact have to go through this process to obtain birth control pills. According to
merriam–webster.com, birth control is the practice of preventing unwanted pregnancies; it used all around the world. There are many different
contraceptive types that people use to prevent unwanted pregnancies, including, but not limited to, condoms, vaginal rings, sponges, implants, shots,
abstinence, and birth control pills. Practicing safe sex should be ready option for all people. Men wear condoms while women take birth control; it is
as simple as that. However, why is it that anyone can buy condoms, but in order for a woman to get birth control, she must have a prescription? This
paper will explain the health benefits of birth control, discuss the consequences of not having direct access to the pill, and the effects of making birth
control more accessible. Over–the–counter access to the pill could be a game–changer for public health, eliminating an unnecessary barrier to a highly
effective form of birth control. The benefits of providing birth control pills over the counter far outweigh the risks and as a society we should be strong

Importance Of Teenage Birth Control
The Stigma Around Teenage Girls and Birth Control
Birth control is defined as the act of preventing pregnancy. It comes in many forms and has been around since ancient times, only, it wasn't until 1960,
when women were given greater control over their body when the first birth control pill was approved by the US Food & Drug Administration to be
sold. Even though birth control is a proven method for preventing sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy, some parents struggle with
moral and ethical implications surrounding the issue. All may sound well, but there has been controversy over whether or not teens should have access
to not just birth control, but more specifically, the contraceptive oral pill. Or do teen–agers have the right to obtain birth control without the knowledge
– and possible disapproval – of their parents? Furthermore, with a high birth rate in a rapidly growing population, social problems will lead to social
crises and explosion. Birth control not only gives teen girls the right to their own body, but has many benefits regarding pregnancy prevention and their
health.
Although the birth control pill started selling in 1960, it wasn't actually legal for unmarried women to obtain it until 1972 in a United States Supreme
Court case, Eisenstaedt v. Baird, that "established the right of unmarried people to possess contraception on the same basis as married couples."
According to the CDC, in 1990, almost 10 million women in the U.S. were using the

Oral Contraceptive Pill And Its Effects On The Way...
Technological advances in terms of contraception have impacted on the way different people experience sexuality throughout history, but the extent
to which they shape these experiences is a highly contested topic. The introduction of the oral contraceptive pill in the early 1960s is often attributed
as the spark of the 'sexual revolution' as it put the power of a woman's fertility in her hands, but I will argue that the feminist movement of the 1970s
(as a social factor) had more of an effect on the sexual freedom of women than the contraceptive pill (as a technological factor). The pill provided a
safety net against the ever–looming threat of pregnancy, and a method in which to exercise female sexual control, while feminism gave rise to the
social conditions that allowed for them to exert that freedom. By many people looking back, the pill is seen as placing the ultimate control of fertility
in the hands of women (Sexual Revolution turns 50, 2010; A Prescription for Revolution, 1993), but many women at the time saw little change directly
related to the introduction of the pill. The 1960s are often referred to as the 'sexual revolution', a phrase which conjures images of freedom and sexual
anarchy. The stuff.co.nz article 'Sexual Revolution turns 50' celebrates the introduction of the pill as the launch of a sexual revolution and Dr Weisberg
suggests that the pill eliminated the threat of pregnancy and therefore opened up sex as an area for more than just reproduction.

Introduction
Over the last century, the birth control pill was introduced as an effective form of contraception, creating a huge milestone in public health. In its brief
lifetime, birth control pills have already evolved and improved in their effectiveness of contraception, as well as, other health benefits. However, where
there are benefits, there are also risks. Numerous studies have been conducted on the correlation between birth control pills and blood clots in women.
Specific types of birth control pills have been proven to increase the risk of developing blood clots. Specifically, drospirenone–containing birth control

Margaret Sanger 's The First Birth Control Movement
Margaret Sanger revolutionized the world in a important way. Margaret Sanger was known for leading the birth control movement. She financed the
research needed to develop "the pill", an easy form of birth control that women could take themselves. She also founded the Planned Parenthood
Federation Of America continuing her legacy of authoritative work to allow parenthood and birth control to be much easier.Margaret Sanger left a
legacy of leading the birth control movement.
Margaret Sanger was born on September 14th, 1879 to Anne Purcell Higgins and Michael Hennessy Higgins. Anne Higgins had been pregnant 18
times but had only given birth to 11 children, She was a devout Roman Catholic. She died a tragic death of tuberculosis when she was just 50 years
old. Although many people attribute Margaret Sanger's support of birth control to her mother's many unwanted pregnancies, Margaret Sanger was
largely influenced by her father, Michael Higgins. He was an activist for women's suffrage. he believed women deserved to have more than just
child–rearing and housekeeping in their lives. He was a freethinking atheist who strongly supported free public education. He earned his living carving
marble. Margaret heard these beliefs growing up and they inspired her to change a woman's place in the world.

The Pros And Cons Of Birth Control
Four out of five people experienced women are using the pill. Birth Control is made of estrogens and progesterone that prevents implantation of a
fertilized ovum. In other words, it stops a female body to become pregnant. If I were to describe it based on biology the two hormones involved is
FSH and LH, which are involved in the normal menstrual cycle, once the cycle ends it then re–starting the cycle after menstrual bleeding and then
triggers ovulation at the midpoint of the cycle. When taking birth control what it does it stops for implantation to occur and if there is no
implantation the level of hormones drop which then set off menstrual. The way they were able to create such shield they were able to figure out that
by altering one or more hormones it can make a difference for the entire cycle. They have used this way to conceal the cycle blocking FSH and LH
hormones.
It all began with Margaret Sanger was the first person to opens the first birth control clinic in the United States. Although it didn't take very long for
many to disagree in what she was pursuing. The year after opening the clinic she was then arrested for maintaining a public nuisance. Once she was
released, she continues to pursue the clinic by re–opened her clinic but prosecution and arrest continue to follow. As she got older she was able to raise
a large amount of money to continue with the research for the first human birth control. Although birth control was then created it was limited to

The Method Of Birth Control Essay
What is the best method of birth control (or contraception)? Is one better or more preferred than another? Are there any side effects that I should be
concerned about? These are just a few of the many questions to ask when discussing various types of birth control methods with your doctor. There are
many methods of birth control, beginning with abstinence which means having no sexual contact at all, which is 100% effective. The various
methods differ greatly and have various rates of effectiveness. Some methods will produce side effects in some patients. There is really no "best"
method of birth control for everyone, but each individual can determine the best choice for themselves with the help of their doctor. Many factors
including age and general health come into play when choosing a birth control method. Most birth control methods are used by women, although there
are a few options available to men. The decision of which type of birth control method to use is one that should be made by the patient seeking a
solution and his/her doctor, after careful review of all factors, which include:
How often the patient has sex, the number of sex partners the patient has, if the patient wants to have children someday, how well each method works
to prevent pregnancy, the patient's age, the patient's health, possible side effects, or the patient's comfort level with using the method. Even the most
effective birth control methods can fail. But chances of getting pregnant are

Birth Control : The Harm Effects Of Birth Control
Harming the Hormones
According to Professor Janet E. Smith, "98% of all women ages 15–44 have used some type of birth control." Birth control is not something most
women think hard about taking. In today's society, many people rather take the easy way out of most situations. Instead of dealing with short term pain
they rather seize it immediately without paying attention to the long–term effects. Birth Control is used for many different reasons such as preventing
pregnancy, clearing acne and stopping heavy blood flow. Once women see what good it does for them they do not even pay attention to the bad, which
is where those long–term effects come in. Some harmful side effects of birth control are weight gain, heavy bleeding, and Osteoporosis. Just like any
other medication it can be helpful and harmful but in this case birth control is more harmful to a woman's body than it is helpful.
Birth Control is a global contraceptive that has been in use for more than 50 years. When Birth Control first came about in 1960 it was approved for
married couples only, now over 10 million women married or single use this method. Most women complain about the harsh side effects of birth
control but they rather put up with them before they risk having an unplanned pregnancy. Side effects such as weight gain and mood changes play a
major role in the decision of birth control use. There is a saying that says, "If you knew better you would do better" most women do not even know
better so they

Loretta Lynn The Pill Analysis
Oral birth control in the United States has a long history of controversy. For many years after it was legalized for married couples it was still
considered taboo to talk about. So of course, Loretta Lynn, appropriately named Queen of Country, wrote and performed a song about it. This spunky,
out spoken, record setting country goddess saw absolutely no qualm when it came to discussing, "the pill". Although this ground–breaking song on the
birth control forefront might seem revolutionary, it was nothing new for an artist like Lynn, who characteristically wrote songs about the hushed
aspects of domestic life. Loretta Lynn's song, "The Pill", pushed social boundaries in the 1970's by encouraging married women, especially in rural
areas, to take control of their lives with the use of oral birth control. Lynn did so by informing rural women of the normalcy of oral birth control.
Loretta Lynn was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Lynn grew up in a small poor Appalachian coal
–mining
community and was the second of eight children. Loretta's career began when she started singing in church as a child. When she was 16, she
married Oliver Lynn. The couple soon moved to Custer, Washington. During their first four years in Washington Lynn has four children, Betty Sue,
Jack Benny, Ernest Ray and Clara Marie. Lynn was still passionate about music and began to play at local venues. By 1960, she had released her
first single, "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl." She moved to Nashville, where she continued to perform and promote her music. Moving to Nashville was
arguably one of Lynn's best decisions. That is where she met one of her best friends and role models, Patsy Cline, as well as find fame and recognition
there. During her career Lynn has garnered an impressive release of more than 160 songs, 60 albums, a total sale of 45 million records, ten Number 1
albums and sixteen Number 1 singles on the country charts, and was the first women to win the the CMA's Entertainer of The Year. Loretta Lynn's
most popular song, "The Pill", was written about a married woman taking birth control. Today, this a common occurrence for American women.
However, in 1975, there was a lot of controversy still surrounding the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Patch

  • 1. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Patch Combination patch contraceptive: Available in the United States since 2001, the contraceptive transdermal patch releases estrogen and progesterone directly into the skin (Ortho Evra, Ortho–McNeil Pharmaceutical; Raritan, NJ). Each patch contains a 1–week supply of hormones of both norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol. It releases a sustained low daily dose of steroids equivalent to the lowest–dose oral contraceptive. In August 2002, the FDA listed a failure rate for the patch of one pregnancy per hundred women per year, similar to that of other combination methods. Advantages include greater compliance and decreased adverse effects, such as nausea and vomiting, due to the avoidance of the 1st–pass effect. However, the patch may cause skin irritation, and, if it is removed unnoticed, such as from showering, this may compromise efficacy. Disadvantages and contraindications are similar to those of combined oral contraceptives. It may be less effective in women who weigh more than 198 pounds.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Findings noted a higher steady state concentration and lower peak concentrations in the patch as compared with combined oral contraceptives. Average concentrations at steady state for ethinyl estradiol are approximately sixty percent higher in women using Ortho Evra and peak concentrations are approximately twenty five percent lower in women using Ortho ... • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Contraceptives There are many different contraceptives available to today's youth. The first and major one would be the Birth control pills. There are two types of these pills, the first being the Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills which contain two hormones, an oestrogen and progestin and the second being the Progestin–only pills which contains one hormone being progestin. The Combined Oral Contraceptive pill works by stopping ovulation (release of an egg) and by inhibiting the movement of sperm. Among common couples who start utilization of combined pills around eight percent of women encounter an incidental pregnancy within the first year. Whereas if the pills are used constantly and effectively, only three in 1000 women will become pregnant. Condoms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also reduce PMS symptoms, menstrual blood loss, anaemia and they stop endometriosis. The disadvantages of the combined pill is that they do not protect against the contraction of HIV/AIDS or other STIs; a women must remember to take the pill at the same time; every day, some women experience headaches, depression or decreased enjoyment of intercourse. The Progestin–only pills work by making cervical mucus thicker so that the sperm cannot get to the egg and the also make the lining of the uterus thinner, sometimes they even stop ovulation. The effectiveness against pregnancy and the contraction of HIV/AIDS is the same as combined contraceptive pills. Some of the advantages of choosing progestin–only pills are that the amount of progestin in these pills in less than in combined pills; these pills cause light menstrual flow and less anaemia and they also reduce menstrual cramps, pain, headaches, mood swings and breast tenderness. The disadvantages of choosing progestin–only pills is that they cause your menstrual cycle to be irregular; like the combined pills, they do not protect against HIV/AIDS or other STIs and a condom is recommended to be used at the same time. ... • 3. The Senate Bill 206 In the summer of 2014, Wisconsin's court argued on the the Senate Bill 206, a law that would force at least one the Wisconsin's abortion clinics to close. This closing would create many hardships for low income women. When discussing this bill, Assistant Attorney General Clayton Kawski compared ending a pregnancy to buying a car "If I decided I'm going to buy an Mercede–Benz but cannot get financing for that and don't have the funds to buy it, am I prevented from buying a Mercedes–Benz?" (Hellerstein 1). Comparing the accessibility to abortions as a luxury good. Throughout this city State Legislatures has placed many restriction intended to prevent access to abortions. The potential fee due to these restrictions for low income single mothers in Wisconsin obtaining an abortion would cost up to $1,380 while for middle income women fees for abortion has dropped to $593 (Hellerstein 1). These restrictions also affect middle class women looking for abortion clinics but these women are able to travel to close states in order to undergo the procedure unlike low income women. This travel includes money for transportation, hotel and food for up to two days. This takes away money needed for other necessities and time away from work. The right of a women to control her reproductive decision is highly debated in the US because of the idea that abortions, to some people, are considered murder. A woman's ability to make reproductive choices is a fundamental right protected by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1950, a lady whose name is Margaret Sanger underwrote the research to create the first birth control pill. "She raised $150,000 for the project. 1960 The first oral contraceptive, Enovid, was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as contraception (Sanger 24)". I am looking forward to initiate what people views are from the perspective of birth control and if it has helped the society and if it hasn't why do they think otherwise. However, millions of unmarried women in 26 states were still denied birth control. In 1968, FDA approved intrauterine devices (IUDs), bringing early versions like the Lippes Loop and Copper 7 to market1970 Feminists challenged the safety of oral contraceptives (the Pill) at well–publicized Congressional hearings. As a result, the formulation of the Pill was changed, and the package insert for prescription drugs came into being. In 1972, The Supreme Court (in Baird v. Eisenstadt) legalized birth control for all citizens of this country, irrespective of marital status. In 1974, The FDA suspended sale of the Dalkon Shield IUD due to infections and seven documented deaths among users. Although other IUD designs were not implicated, most IUDs were slowly taken off the US market due to the escalating costs of lawsuits in subsequent years. • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spermicides – Spermicidal agents: Vaginal spermicides consist of a base combined with either nonoxynol–9 or octoxynol. The actual spermicidal agent consists of a surfactant that destroys the cell membrane of sperm. Bases include vaginal foams, suppositories, jellies, films, foaming tablets, and creams. These must be inserted into the vagina before each intercourse. Utilization of spermicidal agents also reduces the possibility of infection by both viral and bacterial organisms that cause STDs; however, clinical data on their efficacy for preventing the transmission of HIV are limited. • 8. The Importance Of Birth Control Recently, the Trump administration released regulations allowing employers, colleges, and universities to eliminate birth–control coverage from their health care plans due to moral or religious objections (CNBC). These new regulations are not only inhumane, they are argued to be unconstitutional. The primary users of oral contraception are women, so denying women easy access to birth control is considered gender discrimination, because it singles out women and treats medication they need less–favorably, thus violating the Civil Rights Act (Planned Parenthood Action). Many women need birth control for health reasons, infertility, and menstrual cycle irregularities, which is why it is wrong to take away free and easy access to birth control. Oral contraceptives are an important part of many women's health. For instance, many women use birth control to reduce the risk of developing ovarian cysts, which form during ovulation. Since birth control prevents ovulation, the risks of ovarian cysts while on the pill are significantly lower (E Medicine Health). Birth control can also prevent ovarian and colorectal cancer. Studies have shown that the risk of developing uterine cancer reduces considerably after one year of being on the pill, and the ovarian cancer risk is reduced after just three to six months of being on the pill (Miller). Birth control is futile for the women who use it for these reasons, it is the silver lining between life and death for them, in extreme cases. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pregnancy Prevention Essay Pregnancy Prevention Introduction: Pregnancy is not always a planned or wanted event in peoples lives, and so we have man made ways to prevent pregnancy from happening. Everyone has the freedom of choice, both male and female, so therefore there are both male and female methods of contraception. There is an expansive range of contraception methods world wide, and they can be as extreme as being operated on, such as having a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. The more minor options are using condoms or taking a type of contraceptive pill. In this essay I will also talk about the different factors which effect the way people feel about contraception, as many people have beliefs which may not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) describes EC as a contraceptive method used by women in the first few days following unprotected intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Some conservative political and religious organizations seek to limit women's reproductive choices by an inaccurately characterizing EC as abortion, when in fact; the WHO considers it a safe contraceptive. Respect for women's rights to reproduce self–determination also requires governments to ensure that women give their full, informed consent before receiving a contraceptive method. Government policies that disregard a women's own wishes in order to meet demographic goals put women in danger of coercive and violent practices. Subjecting women to surgical sterilization or administering contraceptive injections or implants without her informed consent, for example, violates women's fundamental reproductive rights. Consistent and correct use of modern methods of contraception can prevent many unwanted pregnancies. In order to meet their international commitments, governments must improve access for men, women, and adolescents to high quality family planning information and services that offer a range of freely chosen contraceptive methods. However, there are several other pros to the medication that women can benefit from and several different types of brands and devices that can provide women with these benefits. Patz states the best contraceptive device for women with heavy periods would be the Mirena hormonal intrauterine device, also called an IUD. The Mirena IUD is a plastic device that is inserted in the uterus by an OB/GYN and lasts for five years. Patz states "The Mirena also releases low doses of a hormone called levonorgestrel into the lining of your uterus, which can whittle away your period" (Patz). Patz also suggests the Yaz or Yasmin oral contraceptive device brands for women suffering with pre–period bloating. Some brand options for women with acne problems are Yaz, Ortho Tri–Cyclen, and Estrostep Fe. These pills will help treat acne because they lower the amount of testosterone in a women's body, which leads to oil production. For women with lubrication issues, Patz recommends a vaginal hormonal ring called NuvaRing. The NuvaRing is a plastic ring that is inserted in the vagina. The ring will release estrogen into the ... • 11. Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill Humans have been using different kinds of contraceptives for millions of years, but to this day nothing quite compares to the effectivity and influence of "the pill". Formally known as the Combined oral contraceptive pill, or COCP, the birth control pill was an idea initially suggested by Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger in the early nineteen–fifties. Since then, the little pill has created a BIG impact. Women now had the option to focus on things other than motherhood, and social roles between the sexes shifted dramatically. They could spend more time on education– and sex became better known as an act of love, rather than just a way to reproduce. The pill was an important step in changing the way women were seen by the world, shattering the stereotype of the typical wife and mother, and liberating independent women around the globe. With the advent of the birth control pill, women around the world were one step closer to freedom from the motherly role society forced on them. Rather than getting married and raising children at a young age, women found more time to work towards a higher education– Soon after the birth control pill was legalized there was a significant increase in college attendance and graduation rates for women. Some even say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The birth control pill shattered a lot of stereotypes and skewed traditional values that kept women everywhere at home with the kids. Now more than ever, they had the ability to really take control over their lives– while still remaining intimate. For feminism, the pill was a big step towards achieving gender equality; Men were no longer the only ones able to regularly participate in non–committal intercourse, and women didn't have to be either a virgin or a mother to be accepted ... • 12. Persuasive Essay On Birth Control The first thing that comes to mind when we think "birth control" is pregnancy prevention, when in reality birth control has many uses. Yes, it allows women to take more control over their reproductive health as well as stopping unwanted pregnancies, however it has other purposes. Some of the aids that birth control offers are reducing acne, relieving cramps during menstruation, helping with irregular or heavy menstrual periods, endometriosis (which is when tissue that normally lines the uterus grows over the uterus) and even anxiety and depression. Although birth control is a great option for some women, others choose not to use it and some women are even against it. Birth control can be a very controversial topic for many, while some females believe they should have the right to choose when to be pregnant others feel nature should take its course. Birth control was first introduced to the United States in 1960, as an oral contraceptive known as "the pill". It gave women the opportunity to postpone having unwanted children and opened the door to higher education and professional careers for many. More than 50 years later the pill continues to be the most common form of birth control. (Cunningham 2) Additional methods have been developed since then for women such as implants, patches, condoms, vaginal rings, and injectables etc. It's obvious that some women very much like using birth control as it has continued to grow with time. Some of the different types of birth control include barrier methods, their purpose is to physically block sperm from entering the uterus. Barrier devices can be most effective when used with a spermicide which acts as a "sperm killer" and can be purchased in forms of gels or creams. The most common contraceptive method used worldwide is male condoms because they're easy to use, economical, and don't require medical supervision. Condoms also offer some protection against sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs. STD prevention is already a great reason to use condoms as a form of protection during intercourse. Just like condoms made for men there are some for women. The female condom is a lubricated polyurethane sheath with a ring at each end. The closed end is inserted in the vagina, ... • 13. Birth Control : An Effective Means Of Preventing Pregnancy Introduction Birth control is becoming a very controversial topic in today's society. Although some forms of birth control have been around for thousands of years, those that are most familiar to us have been practiced since the late 1950's. People's views and beliefs on birth control have changed dramatically. According to theBirth control pill facts sheet, "About five women out of the one hundred using this method for one year will get pregnant" (2014, p. 4). This illustrates that although birth control is an effective means of preventing pregnancy, it is not 100% effective. In this paper I will discuss the different types of birth control and statistics related to birth control. I will also discuss different positive and negative impacts that birth control can have on women. Past and present views and recent laws on birth control will also be covered in this paper. Description of the Topic I Chose Current birth control methods have been around for 50 plus years and during this time frame, the different types of birth control have evolved and changed. Once this occurs she should be able to care for herself without others acknowledging it unless she wants them to know. Teenagers and birth control are a controversial topic, however, it's a debate where the voices of teenage girls should be the main source. In many cases, young women are looked down upon and feel they have no other choice than to hide or face the punishments (such as criticism or even being grounded by their parents) given by society when coming out about using birth control. Girls should be able to obtain birth control without parents consent at the age of 15; not only is it their body, it's a beneficial drug when it comes to medical reasons and avoiding teenage pregnancies. The process of obtaining birth control includes getting a prescription and purchasing them if your insurance doesn't cover them. These pills should be taken daily and need to be purchased monthly depending on the brand. According to Planned Parenthood, "When used perfectly, the pill is 99% effective. But when it comes to real life, the pill is about 91% effective because it can be hard to be perfect". • 18. Unintended Pregnancy Is A Burgeoning Epidemic Throughout... Unintended pregnancy is a burgeoning epidemic throughout the United States that can be easily prevented through proper measures. This epidemic is especially prevalent in women of low income. A woman is considered at risk for an unintended pregnancy if she had sex with a male within the past 12 months, did not want to become pregnant, wasn't currently pregnant, and neither her or her partner were sterilized ( Forrest & Frost, 1996). A major factor in the risk of unintended pregnancy is contraceptive use. There are numerous components that affect contraceptive use including: family planning attitudes and contraceptive use influencing factors, health insurance coverage , and male perception towards contraception . Due to unintended pregnancy becoming a rapidly increasing occurrence in the United States, it is imperative to analyze the circumstances leading up to the pregnancy. According to Finer & Zolna ( as cited in Ayoola,Zandee, Johnson, & Pennings, 2014) in 2006 almost one half of all pregnancies in the United states were unintended. The risk for having an unintended pregnancy increases when there is contraceptive failure or effective contraceptives are not used ( Ayoola et al., 2014). Women who have less education and a lower income are more likely to misuse contraception or engage in contraceptive non use ( Ayoola et al., 2014). She and other birth control activists would fight for women's access to birth control through the 20th century which has gone on to affect American women today. In order to analyze the affect that birth control has had on America, it is necessary to look at the works of Margaret Sanger and the birth control movement of the progressive era. A good primary source with information that assesses the birth control movement is the collection of anonymous letters sent to Margaret Sanger entitled Motherhood in Bondage, published in 1928. A secondary source used is the book Margaret Sanger And the Birth Control Movement In America, written by Ellen Chesler in 1992. Lastly, a tertiary source is the PBS website, http://www.pbs.org/wg1}bh/amex/pill/timeline / that discusses the timeline of birth control in America. If it were not for the progressive thinking and radical changes promoted by the socialist party, birth control would have never been able to make its mark on American history First to promote the Birth Control movement was radical political activist, Margaret Sanger. At nineteen years old, Margaret watched her mother of only fifty years old die from tuberculosis. Out of anger she immediately blamed her father for putting the strain of eleven childbirths and seven miscarriages on her mother (PBS). This would begin her career for helping women. Sanger ... • 20. Women 's Rights Of Women In today's society women have acquired more rights than they have had in years. Women now have the ability to do so many things that they couldn't before, things that they had to fight for such as voting, working outside the home, making family decisions and so much more. This is a constant battle though because there are many people that constantly fight against women's rights including lawmakers who would like to see their rights suppressed again in the form of child bearing and what jobs are available to women. Women still suffer from unequal pay in the workforce which accounts for a portion of the poverty rate in America. According to http://www.iwpr.org in 2014 women made approximately 79 percent of the wages that men did, equaling a 21 percent pay gap. When you account for the fact that many of these women are single parents supporting a family with no help, you might ask yourself how this is even ethical or right in a society such as ours. According to Utilitarianism we must do what produces the best results for the greatest amount of people. Humans started experimenting with different "natural" methods to take care of themselves, a good example is back in 1850 BCE Egyptians described how women used to introduce a device made of crocodile dung and fermented dough in their vagina. Other contraceptives methods that Egyptians used such as honey, placed plugs of gum and acacia in the vagina. Another example is Ancient Romans used a highly acidic concoction of fruit and nuts in the vagina. While these societies were trying to create different contraceptive methods, they came up with the barrier method which means that something was placed over the cervix to stop the movement of sperm to the fallopian tubes. These are the first examples that societies without any clue of knowing how to take care of themselves practiced. There were many methods that did not work such as coitus interruptus or withdrawal the penis from the vagina before ejaculation. Even though this method is not effective there are many people nowadays that still practice this method. Condoms is one of the most effective methods that was invented about 3,000 years and have been made from different materials as cloth, animal intestines and fish bladders. My mother was overweight, has had an early menstruation (before age 12), lived a sedentary lifestyle, and at the time she didn't have a well–balanced diet. Along with those factors, her doctors pointed out that her risk could have been increased by her use of an oral contraceptive. It wasn't a consistent use, as there were a couple of births and one miscarriage during that time frame. One of the main reasons she stopped using birth control once she got diagnosed was because her tumor was being fueled by the estrogen in the birth control medication. This was confirmed by the lab results that she got back for ERA (Estrogen) and PRA (Progesterone). ERA and PRA receptors were the two factors that her doctors needed to review and determine what was actually feeding the tumors. Roman physicians built on Greek medicine practices, there were only two reasons they would not help a woman abort a child. The first reason was if the child was conceived from adultery and the second reason was to preserve her beauty. I find this ironic since these seem to be popular reasons for having abortions today. According to Joyce Salisbury author of The Encyclopedia of Women in the Ancient World, society initially only made rules against abortion to control women, it was not until the third century A.D. that Christians made the issue about the unborn baby (1). The only sure way to prevent pregnancy now and in ancient time was by abstaining from sex. The easiest way to prevent pregnancy with intercourse was the withdrawal method. Controversy stemmed from this because the illustration of women through the media was not matching reality and the pill was pinned as the cause. The benefits of providing birth control pills over the counter far outweigh the risks and as a society we should be strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Importance Of Teenage Birth Control The Stigma Around Teenage Girls and Birth Control Birth control is defined as the act of preventing pregnancy. It comes in many forms and has been around since ancient times, only, it wasn't until 1960, when women were given greater control over their body when the first birth control pill was approved by the US Food & Drug Administration to be sold. Even though birth control is a proven method for preventing sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy, some parents struggle with moral and ethical implications surrounding the issue. All may sound well, but there has been controversy over whether or not teens should have access to not just birth control, but more specifically, the contraceptive oral pill. Or do teen–agers have the right to obtain birth control without the knowledge – and possible disapproval – of their parents? Furthermore, with a high birth rate in a rapidly growing population, social problems will lead to social crises and explosion. Birth control not only gives teen girls the right to their own body, but has many benefits regarding pregnancy prevention and their health. Although the birth control pill started selling in 1960, it wasn't actually legal for unmarried women to obtain it until 1972 in a United States Supreme Court case, Eisenstaedt v. Baird, that "established the right of unmarried people to possess contraception on the same basis as married couples." According to the CDC, in 1990, almost 10 million women in the U.S. were using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Oral Contraceptive Pill And Its Effects On The Way... Technological advances in terms of contraception have impacted on the way different people experience sexuality throughout history, but the extent to which they shape these experiences is a highly contested topic. The introduction of the oral contraceptive pill in the early 1960s is often attributed as the spark of the 'sexual revolution' as it put the power of a woman's fertility in her hands, but I will argue that the feminist movement of the 1970s (as a social factor) had more of an effect on the sexual freedom of women than the contraceptive pill (as a technological factor). The pill provided a safety net against the ever–looming threat of pregnancy, and a method in which to exercise female sexual control, while feminism gave rise to the social conditions that allowed for them to exert that freedom. By many people looking back, the pill is seen as placing the ultimate control of fertility in the hands of women (Sexual Revolution turns 50, 2010; A Prescription for Revolution, 1993), but many women at the time saw little change directly related to the introduction of the pill. The 1960s are often referred to as the 'sexual revolution', a phrase which conjures images of freedom and sexual anarchy. The stuff.co.nz article 'Sexual Revolution turns 50' celebrates the introduction of the pill as the launch of a sexual revolution and Dr Weisberg suggests that the pill eliminated the threat of pregnancy and therefore opened up sex as an area for more than just reproduction. ... • 37. Birth Control Pill Introduction Over the last century, the birth control pill was introduced as an effective form of contraception, creating a huge milestone in public health. In its brief lifetime, birth control pills have already evolved and improved in their effectiveness of contraception, as well as, other health benefits. However, where there are benefits, there are also risks. Numerous studies have been conducted on the correlation between birth control pills and blood clots in women. Specific types of birth control pills have been proven to increase the risk of developing blood clots. Specifically, drospirenone–containing birth control pills and certain oral combined contraceptive pills (OCCP) have been linked to increased risks of blood clots. The issue ... In Amoozegar et al.'s (2015) studies, it was found that the odds of developing CVST for women aged 15–50 taking OCPs was 7.59 times higher than those not taking OCPs. • 39. The Pros And Cons Of Birth Control Four out of five people experienced women are using the pill. Birth Control is made of estrogens and progesterone that prevents implantation of a fertilized ovum. In other words, it stops a female body to become pregnant. If I were to describe it based on biology the two hormones involved is FSH and LH, which are involved in the normal menstrual cycle, once the cycle ends it then re–starting the cycle after menstrual bleeding and then triggers ovulation at the midpoint of the cycle. When taking birth control what it does it stops for implantation to occur and if there is no implantation the level of hormones drop which then set off menstrual. The way they were able to create such shield they were able to figure out that by altering one or more hormones it can make a difference for the entire cycle. They have used this way to conceal the cycle blocking FSH and LH hormones. It all began with Margaret Sanger was the first person to opens the first birth control clinic in the United States. Although it didn't take very long for many to disagree in what she was pursuing. The year after opening the clinic she was then arrested for maintaining a public nuisance. Once she was released, she continues to pursue the clinic by re–opened her clinic but prosecution and arrest continue to follow. As she got older she was able to raise a large amount of money to continue with the research for the first human birth control. Although birth control was then created it was limited to ... • 40. The Method Of Birth Control Essay What is the best method of birth control (or contraception)? Is one better or more preferred than another? Are there any side effects that I should be concerned about? These are just a few of the many questions to ask when discussing various types of birth control methods with your doctor. There are many methods of birth control, beginning with abstinence which means having no sexual contact at all, which is 100% effective. The various methods differ greatly and have various rates of effectiveness. Some methods will produce side effects in some patients. There is really no "best" method of birth control for everyone, but each individual can determine the best choice for themselves with the help of their doctor. Many factors including age and general health come into play when choosing a birth control method. Most birth control methods are used by women, although there are a few options available to men. The decision of which type of birth control method to use is one that should be made by the patient seeking a solution and his/her doctor, after careful review of all factors, which include: How often the patient has sex, the number of sex partners the patient has, if the patient wants to have children someday, how well each method works to prevent pregnancy, the patient's age, the patient's health, possible side effects, or the patient's comfort level with using the method. Even the most effective birth control methods can fail. But chances of getting pregnant are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Birth Control : The Harm Effects Of Birth Control Harming the Hormones According to Professor Janet E. Smith, "98% of all women ages 15–44 have used some type of birth control." Birth control is not something most women think hard about taking. In today's society, many people rather take the easy way out of most situations. Instead of dealing with short term pain they rather seize it immediately without paying attention to the long–term effects. Birth Control is used for many different reasons such as preventing pregnancy, clearing acne and stopping heavy blood flow. Once women see what good it does for them they do not even pay attention to the bad, which is where those long–term effects come in. Some harmful side effects of birth control are weight gain, heavy bleeding, and Osteoporosis. Just like any other medication it can be helpful and harmful but in this case birth control is more harmful to a woman's body than it is helpful. Birth Control is a global contraceptive that has been in use for more than 50 years. When Birth Control first came about in 1960 it was approved for married couples only, now over 10 million women married or single use this method. Most women complain about the harsh side effects of birth control but they rather put up with them before they risk having an unplanned pregnancy. Side effects such as weight gain and mood changes play a major role in the decision of birth control use. There is a saying that says, "If you knew better you would do better" most women do not even know better so they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Loretta Lynn The Pill Analysis Oral birth control in the United States has a long history of controversy. For many years after it was legalized for married couples it was still considered taboo to talk about. So of course, Loretta Lynn, appropriately named Queen of Country, wrote and performed a song about it. This spunky, out spoken, record setting country goddess saw absolutely no qualm when it came to discussing, "the pill". Although this ground–breaking song on the birth control forefront might seem revolutionary, it was nothing new for an artist like Lynn, who characteristically wrote songs about the hushed aspects of domestic life. Loretta Lynn's song, "The Pill", pushed social boundaries in the 1970's by encouraging married women, especially in rural areas, to take control of their lives with the use of oral birth control. Lynn did so by informing rural women of the normalcy of oral birth control. Loretta Lynn was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Lynn grew up in a small poor Appalachian coal –mining community and was the second of eight children. Loretta's career began when she started singing in church as a child. When she was 16, she married Oliver Lynn. The couple soon moved to Custer, Washington. During their first four years in Washington Lynn has four children, Betty Sue, Jack Benny, Ernest Ray and Clara Marie. Lynn was still passionate about music and began to play at local venues. By 1960, she had released her first single, "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl." She moved to Nashville, where she continued to perform and promote her music. Moving to Nashville was arguably one of Lynn's best decisions. That is where she met one of her best friends and role models, Patsy Cline, as well as find fame and recognition there. During her career Lynn has garnered an impressive release of more than 160 songs, 60 albums, a total sale of 45 million records, ten Number 1 albums and sixteen Number 1 singles on the country charts, and was the first women to win the the CMA's Entertainer of The Year. Loretta Lynn's most popular song, "The Pill", was written about a married woman taking birth control. Today, this a common occurrence for American women. However, in 1975, there was a lot of controversy still surrounding the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
