Across all boards, Morticia and Gomez of the Addams Family
franchise remain a clear example of a healthy romantic
relationship.Despite their rather macabre origins, the two are
often referred to by couple counselors because they exemplify
the importance of maintaining a sense of romance in a marriage.
Children often change the dynamics of a relationship.The label
of "parent" suddenly becomes a reality. The burden of such a
responsibility can cause a couple to forget about who they were
before their children.

Marriage counselors prescribe date nights as a means to be
better parents. This does sound paradoxical, but the fact
remains that couples need to take care of themselves and each
other first. Children are to be loved and respected, but they
cannot grow in an environment where they are the center of their
parent’s universe. Remember also that children tend to build
their values based on their parent’s behavior. If they see their
parents treating each other more as "parents" rather than lovers,
they will grow up and treat their future spouse the same way.
There must be a sense of detachment to how parents treat their
children. Counselors gently remind their patients that children are
given, spouses are chosen. Parents should re-embrace their
spouse as the life partner they consciously chose. As such, more
care and happiness should be given.

This does not have to be expressed in any big way. Little things,
such as regular date nights, are enough to strengthen a
marriage.
