Observation: This first step is the observation. It answers the question, “what does it say”. There is no jumping to application at this point and all we are concerned with is the context of the passage.I chose Puzzle pieces for the slides. This picture is a bunch of puzzle pieces all over the table. I chose it because in observation one must first observe every part of the passage and text.
Interpretation:This step focuses on the meaning of the passage or text. It answers the question, “what does the text mean?”. A good observation will lead into a good interpretation.I chose this picture of people holding the puzzle pieces. It shows that they are looking at it and trying to figure out what it means.
Generalization:Generalization is trying to figure out what the author is talking about and what he wants to communicate with the audience. This is the bridge that will lead into application and implementation. It asks what the big idea is.This picture shows someone looking over the puzzle pieces trying to determine what the big idea is.
Application:Application is trying to figure out “what difference does it make?” Are there any teachings that we can follow and are there any rebukes or corrections that are addressed in the text that would apply to us? This picture shows someone trying to put the puzzle together getting ready for the application.
Implementation:This step asks the question “what is it that I must change?” This is the challenge and asks both the teacher and student what life change they can glean from what they have read in these passages.Implementation is the finished work. There is a life change and it should show in the final step.
