4. Pecuniary/Monetary jurisdiction
1.Pecuniary jurisdiction of district forums:-
Entertain the cases where the value of claim/compensation is up to Rs.20 lakhs.
2. Pecuniary jurisdiction of State Commissions:-
Entertain the cases where the value of claim/compensation is above Rs.20 lakhs and does not
exceed Rs.1 crore.
3. Pecuniary jurisdiction of National / Central commission:-
Entertain the cases where the value of claim/compensation exceeds Rs.1 crore.
5. Territorial/Geographical Jurisdiction
1.Territorial Jurisdiction of District forum:-
Each forum has its own geographical limits within which it can exercise its jurisdiction. A case is supposed
to fall within in such territory when at the time of institution of complain where
1.a) The cause of action wholly or in part arose in that area
1.b) The opposite party resides or carries on business or personally works for gain
1.c) If for any reason the case has to be filed in different court other than the above two, then it can be filed with
the consent of both the parties with the permission of the concerned court
2.Territorial jurisdiction of State commission:-
Each state commission also has its own geographical limits where it can exercise its jurisdiction. The
principles for filing the case in the state commission are on the similar lines on which the territorial jurisdiction of District
commission is based.
3.Territorial jurisdiction of National commission:-
Territorial limits of National commission applies to whole of India except Jammu and Kashmir (JK)
6. Appellate Jurisdiction
This is the law to entertain any appeals by the person who is not satisfactory with the orders of courts and should
entertain it in the court of higher level
This jurisdiction applies only to state and national commmission
Revisional Jurisdiction
This law is for the revision of records and pass the appropriate orders in any consumer dispute which is pending
or decided by the state government.
This is done by the Central commission.
