Innovative Approach to Early Childhood Education.
Our BOX will have a meaningful impact on early childhood education in slums. We use local production and local distribution. Which keeps labor + materials + overheads low. We are confident this holistic approach will positively impact early childhood development and prepare them for their future by stimulating their educational needs. And we look forward to enthusiastically implementing our solution as a catalyst for change.

The Early Education challenge in slums [1m20s] ->
[20s] Introduction: personal story about childhood
Happy memories: "When I was a child, I remember …"
playing with toys, solving puzzles, happily going to the daycare in the perspective of playing with my friends, learning new things." ADD BOOKS
Accomplishments: More than just happy memories, these early education years got me ready to succeed in primary school and beyond.
Intro ->
[30s] Current Solution is INCOMPLETE!
Unfortunately, 100 million in urban slums do not get this chance!
Parents often lack the time and money to spend on their younger kids' education (many households live less than $3 a day) [Sample Household revenue chart?]
Accessibility can be a challenge
Insufficient government funds for ECE initiatives -> impact on quality
NGOs not scalable
For Profit costly: cheapest daycares cost 1$-2$ a day, sometimes more
[10s] As a result
[Achievements comparison chart]
Children are ill-prepared for primary school
End up dropping out of school, perpetuating the cycle of poverty
KEY QUESTION
[20s] Dormant demand
Parents naturally provide informal education to children between 0 and 6 y.o.: read, play, sing, talk
[Charts unequal access to formal education + poorest parents do provide informal Early Education]
Parents are willing to pay for early education: those who can afford it are willing to spend as much as 1$ / day in daycares.
We see this as an opportunity to address the current inefficiencies and meet the parents needs (offering a meaningful, cost-effective solution to parents and caregivers).
Our Solution [1m20s] —>
[SLIDE#7 - 20s] During our research, we found out that:
[Unicef stats: playthings + books]
while the poorest children have access to a relatively decent number of playthings
significant gaps exist when it comes to children's books at home
reading books for just half an hour a day could be worth up to 1 year of extra schooling by the age of 15.

Our Solution [1m20s] —>
[20s] …And this is how we came up with the Fifiko Box:
cheap educational materials that focus on developing children’s numeracy and literacy;
complemented by multimedia content fostering interactive learning. For example, dvds will…(singing, motions, …)
In addition, toys, crafts and arts
last but not least: the materials will include health and nutrition education for children and parents
[20s] Age specific content:
[Product range illustration]
3 age ranges:
1 to 2 y: support in acquiring language and thinking skills + toys
2 - 3.5 y: more advanced children books, songs, puzzles
from 3.5 to primary school:
for each product range, we design a curriculum with 1 box every 3 months

[SLIDE#9 - 20s] But this is not just a box: we will also provide an easy-to-use sms application to track children’s process:
[Data: literacy rates, mobile penetration]
Care providers are given with basic instructions for testing
tests for 3 year olds: count, and understand the concept of counting; correctly name familiar colours
tests for 4 year olds: count 10 or more objects; recognise some letters and possibly write his/her name; correctly name at least 4 colours and 3 shapes.
