3. THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
1. The students lack of reading interest
2. The students lack interest about motivation in reading
3. The students also lack of vocabulary
4. The students are still difficult to find the topic of text
5. The students are difficult to recognize the main idea
6. The students are difficult to investigate the supporting detail
7. The students are difficult to differentiate the genre of the
text
4. LIMITATTION OF THE PROBLEM
In this research the researcher has limited times,
limited data, and so on. To avoid misunderstanding
to the problems, it is necessary for the researcher to
limit these problems in this research. The researcher
focuses on the effect of using infographic on
students’ reading interest and students’ reading
comprehension.
5. FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM
• How is students’ translation ability of the eighth grade at MTs
Ummatan Wasathan Islamic Boarding School of Technology
Riau?
• How is students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade
at MTs Ummatan Wasathan Islamic Boarding School of
Technology Riau?
• Is there any a significant correlation between students’
translation ability and their reading comprehension of the
eighth grade at MTs Ummatan Wasathan Islamic Boarding
School of Technology Riau?
6. OPERATIONAL CONCEPT
VARIABLE X : TRANSLATION ABILITY
• The stdents are able to find the ins and outs of the source
language in terms of vocabulary, grammar and language style
• The students are able to master the target language as a
second language
• The students are able to understand the subject or the subject
matter to be translated
7. VARIABLE Y : READING COMPREHENSION
• The students are able to find out idea of the text
• The students are able to identify information of the text
• The students are able to identify reference of the text
• The students are able to make inference of the text
• The students are able to find out the meaning of vocabulary in
the text.
8. THE RESEARCH DESIGN – TIME AND LOCATION
The researcher will use a quantitative correlation design
as researcher’s research design.
This research will be conducted from february to july
2017 at MTs Ummatan Wasathan Islamic Boarding School of
Technology Riau.
9. POPULATION AND SAMPLE
The population of the eighth grade students of
MTs. Ummatan Wasathan Islamic Boarding School of
Technology Riau.
The sample are 35 students

11. TECHNIQUE OF ANALYZING DATA
The researcher used the score test for both of variables. Pearson product
momemnt formula will be used the formula present below :

rxy = The correlation coefficient between X and Y
X = Score of translation ability
Y = Score of reding comprehension
∑X = Sum of translation ability score
∑Y = Sum of the reading comprehension score
∑XY = Sum of translation ability score times sum of the reading comprehension score
N = The number of the sample
