This passage from Ephesians describes the helpless and hopeless state that all humanity exists in due to sin, being spiritually dead and subject to God's wrath. It explains that God, in his great love and mercy, made believers alive through Christ by his grace, rather than by any good works or merits of their own. All the credit for salvation belongs to God alone. Those who have faith in Christ have been saved, given new spiritual life, and created by God to do good works for his purposes.
