1. Philippians 4:10-11
I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have
renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have
been concerned, but you had no opportunity to
show it. I am not saying this because I am in
need, for I have learned to be content whatever
the circumstances.

2. Philippians 4:12-13
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what
it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of
being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in
plenty or in want. I can do everything through
him who gives me strength.

3. Philippians 4:14-16
Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.
Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early
days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when
I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared
with me in the matter of giving and receiving,
except you only; for even when I was in
Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again
when I was in need.

4. Philippians 4:17-18
Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking
for what may be credited to your account. I have
received full payment and even more; I am
amply supplied, now that I have received from
Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a
fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice,
pleasing to God.

5. Philippians 4:19-20
And my God will meet all your needs according
to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God
and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

6. We must unlearn that life is about me to learn that it is
all about GOD.
Learning contentment
requires we first do some
UNLEARNING
7. Contentment is not dependent on the GIFT, or in our
case what we have.
“If I am not SATISFIED with what I have, I will never be
satisfied with what I want” (K.W. Osbeck)
“[Contentment] is not a passive acceptance of the
status quo, but the positive assurance that God has
supplied one’s needs, and the consequent release from
unnecessary desire” (J.C. Connell)
To learn contentment we
must unlearn that “I’ll be
happy if I only have MORE.
8. True contentment TRANSCENDS our circumstances.
To learn contentment we
must unlearn that “I’ll be
happy if only my
CIRCUMSTANCES were
different.
9. Along with the right people will be the DIFFICULT
people.
To learn contentment we
must unlearn that “I’ll be
happy if only there were
different PEOPLE in my life.
10. Understood properly Paul declares that he can FACE
everything through Christ.
The secret to contentment is
DEPENDENCE on Christ.
